Stepping up again - Counterattack is well placed to win his first Group 2 at Rosehill

You can tell when the carnival is here when betting gets as hard as this Saturday. Just when you think the Group One is another procession for BLACK HEART BART, the rain comes in Melbourne and casts some doubt. Sydney should get a few millimetres on Friday and Saturday too, keeping the track on the edge of the SOFT range.

At least the markets are full of value and studying the Guide can reap big rewards.

Ahead of The Race Guide's going on-line Friday 9am, check out the Top 5 Early Insights below.

No. 1 Plenty of Pressure

“There’s a few tough on-pacers engaged in Race 3 at Rosehill Gardens, which should set up a testing tempo in the race. BULLRUSH has more than enough class to hang on, but betting on SIR BACCHUS and UNEQUIVOCAL is a better play."

Bet on UNEQUIVOCAL now at $11

No. 2 A Smart Move South

“Rain is heading Melbourne’s way, a few more millimetres than in Sydney anyway and Godolphin’s switch with mudlark TESSERA now looks pretty smart. He’s a rock solid each-way chance.”

Bet on TESSERA now at $6.5

No. 3 Waller’s Fresh Attack

“Chris Waller’s sprinter COUNTERATTACK is still an entire with the breeding lines to be a sire prospect one day. After two strong trials, you can bet he’ll be wound up and ready to score his first Group 2 win.”

Bet on COUNTERATTACK now at $4.2

No. 4 Playing it Safe

“There’s rain around in Melbourne and hardly any pressure in the feature Group One Makybe Diva over a mile. Looking for horses up near the pace that can handle the conditions, RISING ROMANCE and JACQUINOT BAY shape up as two very solid bets in place markets.”

Bet on RISING ROMANCE to place $2.6 at and JACQUINOT BAY to place at $5.5

No. 5 Sheraco Sprinters

“Despite the big field, there’s not much tempo on the race, which will make it hard for those mares looking for further. Both RAVI and SAVOUREUX have the sprint over 1,200 metres to dash home best.”

Bet on RAVI at $6 and SAVOUREUX at $14
