Vet Notes

  • Junglized (Race 1) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery and had sustained multiple superficial abrasions to the inside of the off-hind leg. Stable Representative Mr S Alexiou attributed today’s performance to the fact that the colt was caught wide without cover. He undertook to report back if there is anything amiss with Junglized subsequent to the race. Mr Alexiou confirmed the colt will now be spelled.
  • Cannot Be Serios (Race 2) – Stewards permitted the withdrawal of the gelding at 8.38am on veterinary advice when it sustained abrasions to his hind legs when it slipped over in its stable. Trainer Mr M Freedman was advised a veterinary clearance would be required for Cannot Be Serios prior to it being permitted to start again.
  • Mandee (Race 2) – a postrace veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr C Maher stated that the filly travelled up well to Sydney and he was confident it would run well today. He added he attributed the performance principally to the difficult run that the filly endured throughout the event, however in light of today’s performance it would now be spelled.
  • Cramming (Race 3) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery.
  • Soviet Courage (Race 3) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding lost its off-fore plate in running.
  • Moral Victory (Race 5) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed gelding was mildly lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr T Martin stated in his view the gelding may have been flattened by its trial on Monday, 7 November 2016 and indicated it had pleased the stable leading into today’s race. Mr Martin was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Moral Victory’s next race start.
  • Raphael’s Cat (Race 9) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed superficial abrasions to the near-hind gaskin. Co-trainer Mr A Bott concurred with the views of B Shinn and undertook to report back to the Stewards on the progress of Raphael’s Cat subsequent to the race.

Penalties & Fines

  • R Hutchings, rider of Zumbelina was fined $100 under AR91 for arriving late on course.
  • A Hyeronimus, rider of  Vasiliev pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1000m he shifted in when insufficiently clear of Samadoubt, resulting in that runner losing its rightful running. A Hyeronimus’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday, 21 November 2016 and to expire on Friday, 2 December 2016, on which day he may ride.
  •  App. L Magorrian, rider of Trafalgar was fined $200 under AR145 for returning to scale a kilogram over his allocated weight.

Summary of Races

RACE 1: Funland Australia Handicap 1100m

  • Groundbreak – began awkwardly. Shortly after the start was shifted in behind runners.
  • The Mission – slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Rider T Clark stated, in accordance with his instructions, he rode his mount along in the early stages to take up a forward position, however when placed under pressure in the straight his mount was initially inclined to hang out, but then inside the 200m raced greenly when racing tight to the inside of Epic Rant and as a consequence could not be fully tested to the end of the race.
  • Epic Rant – shortly after the start was bumped by Junglized and became unbalanced.
  • Veranillo – hung out making the home turn.
  • Junglized – rider N Callow stated his mount jumped awkwardly and consequently lost his offside iron, which he regathered several strides after the start. He added he then rode his mount along to take up a forward position, however was unable to cross runners to his inside and when the pace was strong in the early stages he was obliged to remain three wide without cover. N Callow further stated that soon after straightening his mount was under pressure and, as it weakened, was inclined to race greenly and shift ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery and had sustained multiple superficial abrasions to the inside of the off-hind leg. Stable Representative Mr S Alexiou attributed today’s performance to the fact that the colt was caught wide without cover. He undertook to report back if there is anything amiss with Junglized subsequent to the race. Mr Alexiou confirmed the colt will now be spelled.
  • Our Mantra – rider T Angland stated that inside the 200m he endeavoured to improve into a position between The Mission and Arbitrate, however when Arbitrate then shifted out and The Mission shifted in slightly he had to check his mount when disappointed for that run. As a consequence he did not test his mount over the final 100m. Stewards advised T Angland that in similar circumstances he must ensure that he rides his mount out to the finish of the race where possible.

RACE 2: Club Marconi Handicap 1300m

  • Cannot Be Serios – Stewards permitted the withdrawal of the gelding at 8.38am on veterinary advice when it sustained abrasions to his hind legs when it slipped over in its stable.   • Zumbelina – passing the 1200m shifted out away from Samadoubt and made contact with Mandee. A short distance later was again bumped when Mandee shifted in slightly. After being crossed by Vasiliev near the 1000m, Samadoubt (App. D Panya) shifted out, resulting in Zumbelina having to be checked when crowded between Mandee and Samadoubt. Whilst the Stewards accepted that App. Panya was in some difficulty in that her mount was positioned close to the heels of Vasiliev, she was nevertheless advised to make more effort to prevent her mounts shifting out and causing interference to other runners. Rider R Hutchings was fined $100 under AR91 for arriving late on course.
  • Samadoubt – inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight. A Hyeronimus (Vasiliev) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1000m he shifted in when insufficiently clear of Samadoubt, resulting in that runner losing its rightful running. RACE 3: Cosmedic Central Handicap 2400m

  • Cramming – slow to begin and then crowded shortly after by Low Places, which shifted in. Overraced in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery.
  • Low Places – on jumping shifted in and made contact with Cramming.
  • Der Meister – held up making the home turn. Laid out under pressure in the straight.
  • Soviet Courage – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding lost its off-fore plate in running.

RACE 4: TAB Highway Handicap 1400m

  • Dothraki Queen – a veterinary examination of the mare, which sustained an abrasion to the near-side hock whilst being transported to the course, passed it fit to start. A further examination of Dothraki Queen when it arrived behind the barriers also passed it fit to start.
  • Rosaruby – bumped on jumping. Raced three wide without cover.
  • Noble Descent – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5: All Our Mob Handicap 1200m

  • Moral Victory – rider B Spriggs stated that with the gelding coming back in distance today he settled further back in the field than he had anticipated due to the strong tempo and in his view raced a little flat. He added Moral Victory would also benefit from a step up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed gelding was mildly lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr T Martin stated in his view the gelding may have been flattened by its trial on Monday, 7 November 2016 and indicated it had pleased the stable leading into today’s race. Mr Martin was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Moral Victory’s next race start.
  • Kudero – when questioned in respect to her mount leading today, App. D Panya stated she was issued with no specific instructions as to where to position her mount in the run, other than to make use of the inside draw and hold the rail. She added, after commencing fairly, she allowed her mount to hold the inside position and when Meusault did not cross her mount in the early stages she improved to that runner’s inside and ultimately led without being pressured. App. Panya further stated that throughout the middle stages, although she was aware the tempo her mount had set was strong, the gelding would not come back underneath her despite her efforts and consequently she set too quick a tempo in the middle stages.
  • That’s A Good Idea – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 6: Club Marconi Amartrice Fund Handicap 1200m

  • Nudierudie – began awkwardly.
  • Painted Firetail – held up until the 200m.
  • Wine Tales – rider App. L Magorrian stated that his mount was standing satisfactorily in the barriers, but after commencing a little awkward, his mount was reluctant to stretch out in the  early stages despite his riding and consequently settled further back than intended. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised a waring would be placed on the mare. Mr Waller indicated he would now endeavour to step Wine Tales up in distance.
  • Alart – when questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the straight, T Angland stated that soon after straightening he observed a run commencing to develop between Yuma Desert and Alpen Rose. He said he then elected to position his mount between these runners in an attempt to secure clear running. He added when that run did not develop he was briefly held up between those runners and then approaching the 200m had to steady his mount when Painted Firetail, which had also been held up, improved to his outside, in order to take the run between Yuma Desert and Alpen Rose. T Angland further stated as a consequence he was disappointed for a run to the inside of Yuma Desert inside the 200m, whereby he was able to secure clear running.
  • Leami Astray – trainer Mr R Price advised the Stewards that the mare would now be spelled.

RACE 7: Schweppes Mix & Serve Handicap 1500m

  • Mr Gustavo – began awkwardly and then for a short distance after the start was buffeted between Wine ‘N’ Dine and Royal Tudor. Overraced throughout the middle stages.
  • Royal Tudor – slow to begin and then bumped shortly after the start.
  • Trafalgar – knuckled near the 1400m. App. L Magorrian was fined $200 under AR145 for returning to scale a kilogram over his allocated weight. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which failed to run on in the straight, did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 8: #Theraces Handicap 1300m

  • Asinara – slow to begin.
  • Cauthen’s Power – slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance, rider R Hutchings stated that, after obtaining a position towards the back of the field, his mount commenced to work into the event from the 800m. He added, when racing tight to the inside of Asinara, he improved close to the heels of Final Decision and his mount was then reluctant to hold its position to the inside of Asinara and was checked off that runner’s heels. He said from this point Cauthen’s Power failed to make any ground and was somewhat disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller advised that Cauthen’s Power had pleased leading into today’s race and undertook to report back on the progress of the gelding subsequent to the event.
  • Redoutable Heart – when questioned, App. L Magorrian stated, after finding a position behind Eminent Duke in the early stages, when the tempo eased near the 1000m his mount commenced to overrace and as a consequence was checked to avoid the heels of Eminent Duke. He added as a result Redoutable Heart ran out, which then allowed Asinara, which was positioned to his inside, to obtain a position on the back of Eminent Duke and as a consequence his mount was left racing wide without cover for the remainder of the event. App. Magorrian further stated that he was briefly able to obtain a position behind Eminent Duke again near the 500m, before improving to that runner’s outside soon after straightening, whereby his mount finished the race off well.
  •  Il Mio Destino – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  

 RACE 9: TAB Rewards Handicap 1100m

  • Raphael’s Cat – knuckled on jumping. Rider B Shinn stated that the horse overraced outside the lead and consequently was left without a finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed superficial abrasions to the near-hind gaskin. Co-trainer Mr A Bott concurred with the views of B Shinn and undertook to report back to the Stewards on the progress of Raphael’s Cat subsequent to the race.
  • Elemenohpee – began awkwardly.
  • Highly Geared – began awkwardly.
  • Nieta – crowded on jumping between Raphael’s Cat and Highly Geared, which shifted out.
  • Top Striker – overraced badly throughout the early and middle stages and near the 800m was taken wider when Raphael’s Cat shifted out. Raced wide without cover for the remainder of the event.
  • Lady Jivago – near the 200m was steadied and shifted to the inside of the weakening Raphael’s Cat to continue into clear running.
