Weekend Track Factors

Published: 12 Dec 2014

Very different track conditions present themselves this weekend in Sydney and Melbourne. Midweek rain has seen the newly renovated surface at Royal Randwick be presented as a SOFT 7, while Flemington enjoys dry conditions and a GOOD 3.

Flemington Track Factors

  • The track has been cut and minor renovations taken place following on from the carnival
  • The RAIL is out +8m to protect some of the inside ground used so heavily during the carnival
  • A GOOD 3 track rating. Faster times might be run and powerful types will enjoy the long flat straight
  • A fair track expected, possibly some BIAS off the rails late in the day

"It's in good nick for a track that’s had a reno five weeks ago." Mick Goodie, Flemington Track Manager.

Royal Randwick Track Factors

  • The track has been aerated, de-thatched and fertilised following on from the carnival
  • The RAIL is in the true, so expect a BIAS to horses off the rails in drying conditions
  • A SOFT 7 rating. Ability to handle the wet will be important on the tough track
  • Possible BIAS after the renovations, some questions on how it will play

"The track was struggling with the warm weather, but the rain has helped." Navesh Ramdani, Royal Randwick Track Manager.
