Gai's Flamboyant Filly

Doing it in style - Flamboyant Lass winning Race 2 at Royal Randwick in fast time

The seasons are changing in racing at this time of year. As the new year racing calendar takes shape, we edge closer to the two-year-old Autumn features, a period that is world-renowned for huge prize-money for our young sprinters.

It was Gai Waterhouse's turn to unveil one of her Carnival hopefuls today at Royal Randwick. The stable's front-running style was perfectly executed by the elegant filly Flamboyant Lass (Stratum x Flamboyance), who streaked away from her rivals.

The dominance she showed was supported by the time. A 57.03 second run for the Royal Randwick 1,000 metres was only marginally behind the time run by older horses later in the day. Jockey Paul King jumped and relaxed well, then got the best out of the filly as she accelerated to post a class record, beating Conterattack and Stravigo, who both have talent of their own.

As exciting as her performance is the scope she has for improvement. An athletic and beautifully balanced filly, she has the makings of a horse that can perform beyond the sharp sprint distance of today.

You just might see her show up in Autumn Group racing. A young horse on the rise.

Flamboyant Lass is now $21 with Luxbet for the Golden Slipper
