  • Acqume – slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover until near the 900m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider T Berry stated that, although wide, he was able to obtain cover in the early and middle stages, but his mount never really travelled comfortably. He said under pressure in the straight Acqume was inclined to lay out and he felt may not have appreciated today's soft track conditions. He added, on pulling up, the filly made a noticeable respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Mr B Widdup was advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, would be required prior to the mare racing again.
  •  I am Excited – began awkwardly.
  • Tarabai – after beginning well from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider B Avdulla stated that the filly travelled comfortably behind the winner I Am Excited, but was unable to quicken under pressure in the straight. He said in his view Tarabai was not suited by today's soft track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes concurred with the view of B Avdulla and undertook to report back on the post-race condition of Tarabai. The inquiry was adjourned pending the report from Mr Hawkes, at which point the Stewards will consider whether it is necessary for the filly to trial prior to its next start.

The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Montoya's Secret be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 12.52pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket: 1 st The Pinnacle 3 cents win 4 cents place 2 nd Domed 4 cents place 3 rd Nettoyer 3 cents place

D Lane advised that, after being loaded into the barriers, he observed the buckle of his reins to have come apart and he was in the process of attempting to refasten the buckle. He said, as he was effecting this process, the start was effected, which resulted in Harlow Gold jumping awkwardly and he lost balance and became dislodged soon after the start. Stewards were satisfied that Harlow Gold was denied a fair start and, acting under the provisions of AR134A, the mare was declared a non-runner. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Harlow Gold be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made between 12.52pm and 12.55pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket: 1 st The Pinnacle 9 cents win 10 cents place 2 nd Domed 11 cents place 3 rd Nettoyer 7 cents place A post-race veterinary examination of Harlow Gold did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 6: Sky Racing Rosehill Guineas (Group 1) 2000m

  • Furore - Stewards considered an objection lodged by B Avdulla, rider of 4th placegetter Furore against 2nd placegetter Vin De Dance (J Waddell), alleging interference over the final 300m. Furthermore, Stewards identified from the inquiry room that J Waddell had struck his mount on 10 occasions, inclusive of four successive strikes, and after being made aware of this by the Stewards, B Avdulla included this in his grounds for objection. After considering all the evidence, Stewards found that near the 300m Furore improved into a position to the outside of Vin De Dance when that horse shifted out when not clear, resulting in Furore being taken onto the hindquarter of Cliff's Edge, resulting in Cliff's Edge becoming badly unbalanced and, furthermore, Furore having to be checked and losing its running. In regard to the objection relating to the number of whip strikes by J Waddell the objection under AR168A(2) was dismissed. However, bearing in mind the nature of the interference and the extent of the ground lost by Furore, as the Stewards were satisfied that had the interference not occurred Furore would not have been beaten by Vin De Dance, they upheld the objection and amended the placings to read 1st D'Argento, 2nd Tangled, 3rd Furore, 4th Vin De Dance. At a subsequent inquiry J Waddell pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of Furore, resulting in that horse having to be checked and losing its rightful running. In the incident Cliff's Edge was bumped and became unbalanced. J Waddell's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 25 March 2018 and to expire on Friday, 6 April 2018, on which day he may ride.
