Winning Moves @ Rosehill Gardens

Published: 09 May 2015

Popular winner - Najoom won by a huge margin at Rosehill Gardens

Race 1 - "Stable knowledge helps"

Winner: SKYCLAD $13

His first run was OK and trainer Gerald Ryan suggested he was a promising horse.

There was nothing wrong with the way he paraded, but you could have done with a bit of stable insight to find him.

The owners were the only group in the stands, they clearly knew something!

Race 2 - "Best horse and a touch of luck"

Winner: HIGH MIDNIGHT $8

Out-sprinted behind Group-level gallopers last start, this Cummings stayer had raced in the best classes since his Maiden win.

He came away from the pack with RUSTIC MELODY, you have to thank Tim Clark for a 'rails-hugging' ride that made the difference.

Race 3 - "The right horse"

Winner: KAEPERNICK $4.60

The winner was perfectly placed, a horse with more power than the others in this field. The only risk was the wet.

A patient ride from Jay Ford saved up his rapid sprint finish.

Race 4 - "Best horse wins"

Winner: ALBERTO MAGIC $3.70

ALBERTO MAGIC is a promising young sprinter can he came up against a mediocre group today. RELIGIFY is out of form and SENTA DE NOCHE found the 1200m a touch too far.

It was an easy win in the end.

Race 5 - "That's horse-racing!"

Winner: SENSE AND REASON $26

You were very unlucky if you backed the favourite in this. A loose horse with no jockey hassled BONETE right down the straight.

That set it up for classy swooper SENSE AND REASON to pounce. She needed that extra pressure up front and it all worked out perfectly for her.

Lady luck played her part here.

It all worked out - Sense and Reason crosses the line with the riderless horse

Race 6 - "Tempo tricks"

Winner: YOU'LL NEVER $17

Pride wanted to test if CRAFTINESS would get 1350m, sending RAIN AFFAIR out at a rapid pace as he often does.

Here you had to bet on the strong tempo bringing Chris Waller's galloper into play.

He's a horse that can sustain a long run to the line.

Race 7 - "Faith in class"

Winner: SOLICIT $11

The tempo wasn't strong and MY SABEEL didn't have any luck, but SOLICIT was dominant on the line.

She went too hard at her prior start and dropped right back.

You had to have the faith she would bounce back under the care of skilled horseman Gerald Ryan.

Close finish - Solicit (lime green) stuck her neck out when it mattered

Race 8 - "Best horse wins"

Winner: SILVERBALL $3.80

The form was good for SILVERBALL, but the distance was a risk, most of his best runs overseas around a mile.

The Waller stable was confident though and the money flooded in.

He won with ease!

Race 9 - "Best horse wins"

Winner: NAJOOM $2.80

Gai Waterhouse's talented filly is on a huge upward spiral.

She hung tough last start with a big weight behind BONETE.

They were simply no match for her as she dropped down to 54kg today.

Race 10 - "Best horse wins"

Winner: TIME TO TEST $7.50

It's almost unbelievable that there weren't more hard luck stories in this monster field of 19. The winner sat four wide and was strong to the line.

His win over 1200m first-up in Adelaide suggested he had returned in fine form.

A horse that was always going to relish the step up in distance.

Kept lifting - Time to Test put in a brave performance to win
