Top 5 Early Insights @ Royal Randwick

Published: 21 May 2015

Tough chaser - Better Not Blue will be hard to hold out this weekend

Royal Randwick is the venue for Saturday racing in Sydney this week and the full Race Guides will be on-line Friday at 8am. Storm clouds are circling the city on Thursday night and a wet track is forecast.

With a tough and testing Royal Randwick in mind, The Race Guide's Analyst Team have put together their Top 5 Early Insights.

1 - A Perfect 10

You don't often find a galloper that chases as hard as BETTER NOT BLUE. He got in to all sorts of trouble on the Gold Coast, but still put his head down and stormed home late.

He can often get unsettled in tight spots, like he did up in Queensland.

Barrier 10 perfect for him in a very competitive Race 2.

Better with room - Better Not Blue will enjoy the wide open spaces at Randwick

2 - Bias Alert

The rail moves out three metres after midweek racing at Royal Randwick, a day on which we saw the usual OFF RAILS bias.

You can expect horses out wider to be favoured again this weekend.

Gallopers such as BETTER NOT BLUE (above), SEBRINA, REDOUTABLE HEART, BOSS LANE, PAEDEROS, METICULOUSLY, ALL CERISE and COPY could all be suited on the day.

Wide runner - Meticulously could storm down the outside late

3 - Singing His Own Tune

The McKell Cup is the feature on the card, with DESTINY'S KISS, SENSE OF OCCASION and SINGING FLAME leading early markets.

They all ran well behind Silverball, but SINGING FLAME had a much tougher run after making a move from the 700 metre mark.

He is right in the mix at better odds this weekend.

Tougher run - Singing Flame worked hard last start

4 - Magic Spot

Some punters love the Speed Map, trying to sort out which horses will get that perfect run.

Race 7 over 1,100 metres is a great race to analyse, with lots of early speed and a likely biased track both factors to take into account.

Favourite ALBERTO MAGIC proved he can find cover and finish off last start.  It looks like he'll find the right spot in the run again.

Maps well - Alberto Magic can find the perfect spot behind the speed

5 - Too Much Power

If the rain comes and the Randwick track is tough, expect some of the more powerful gallopers to struggle.

Horses like EISENHOWER, KEEP COOL, GRANDE PUNTO, GOD'S IN HIM, OUR VOODOO PRINCE, HOWMUCHDOYOULOVEME, EARNEST ERNEST and ALIAS all have more muscle and power than their competitors.

They could be reaching for the white flag once they hit the famous Randwick 'rise'.

Carries weight - God's In Him isn't the type for a Heavy Randwick
