Race-by-Race Summary

RACE 1: TAB Place Multi Plate 1350m

  • So Willie – raced ungenerously in the middle stages.
  • Dizzy Diva – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly had aggravated small lacerations to both hind pasterns.

RACE 2: Hyland Race Colours Handicap 1900m

  • White Dove – slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off-hind cannon.
  • Endaxi – raced in restricted room in the early stages between Bubbles 'N' Boats and White Dove, which shifted out slightly.
  • Bubbles 'N' Boats – approaching the 100m was inconvenienced when Royal Adventure shifted out slightly.

RACE 3: TAB Rewards Handicap 1400m

  • Shelley's Girl - jumped awkwardly. Leaving the 1000m when overracing bumped by Taltarni , which shifted out away from Like Xena.
  • Like Xena – pulled hard throughout the early stages and refused to settle. Near the 1000m improved to the inside of Taltarni and made contact with the hindquarter of that runner.
  • Romantic Time – was inclined to overrace when caught wide without cover in the early stages.
  • Berry Delicious – was inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight, resulting in its rider, App. W Costin, having to stop riding and straighten her mount inside the 200m.
  • Lucy's Luck – shifted its near fore-plate during the running of the event. Over the concluding stages shifted in under pressure. App. R Hutchings was advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts when shifting ground not clear of runners. When questioned regarding the performance of Lucy's Luck, stable representative Mr L Prior stated that the filly disappointed at Warwick Farm on 6 May 2015, however, was found to have no abnormalities subsequent to the run. He added, following Warwick Farm, its work had improved and the only explanation he could offer in respect to the filly's improved showing was that it had benefited from additional fitness at its third run back from a spell today.
  • Alegria – App. B Loy stated that he was told to ride the filly where comfortable and was able to take up a midfield position in the early stages, however, when the tempo slackened his mount was shuffled back. When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to come to the outside of Taltarni sooner than he did, App. Loy stated that Alegria was inclined to lay in and particularly when under pressure, in his view, was not comfortable in the soft track conditions and did not quicken as he would have expected.

RACE 4: Eremein Handicap 1800m

  • Paederos – overraced in the early stages.

RACE 5: Octagonal Handicap 1400m

  • Mighty Lucky – jumped awkwardly. Aeronautical – slow to begin.
  • Rugged Cross – held up for clear running until near the 200m.
  • Eigelstein – shifted to the inside of Amavotio on straightening to obtain clear running. App. R Hutchings was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish of the race.
  • Divertire – when questioned regarding the performance of the mare, D Beasley explained that the mare overraced today and consequently settled closer than he would have liked. He added, in his view, this was the main reason for the mare weakening in the straight. A postrace veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Ms H Devlin concurred with the views of rider D Beasley and undertook to report back on the progress of Divertire in the days subsequent.

RACE 6: tab.com.au Sprint 1200m

  • Grunderzeit – near the 100m was steadied when crowded between Aerobar and Kaepernick, which shifted in, despite the efforts of its rider, J Ford.
  • Aerobar – over the concluding stages was steadied when crowded between Kaepernick, which shifted in, and Savoureux (T Clark), which shifted out. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that T Clark had made an effort to straighten his mount to prevent it from shifting out, he was advised to exercise more care in that he should have corrected his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.
  • Kaepernick – rider J Ford stated that, after improving past Grunderzeit, his mount commenced to hang in, which resulted in him not being able to fully test his mount over the final 100m, as he was endeavouring to prevent it shifting in and causing interference to his inside. The racing manners of Kaepernick were brought to the attention of co-trainer Mr M Hawkes.
  • Bascule – rider J Cassidy stated that the gelding, which was standing awkwardly in the gates, missed the start and then was crowded by Crooked Blaze, which shifted out. He added that his mount raced greenly in the run and, although obliged to cover ground to the outside of Cyclone from the 600m, was most disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer's representative Mr L Prior agreed with J Cassidy and stated that Bascule had pleased the stable in its work since being gelded and could offer no explanation in relation to today's performance. Stewards ruled that Bascule must barrier trial to their satisfaction prior to being permitted to start again.
  • Crooked Blaze – a post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near-hind stifle.

RACE 7: Schweppes Handicap 1500m

  • Hollywood Bound – slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages and near the 800m was steadied from the heels of Lunar Rise.
  • Mr One Eleven – rider J Ford stated his mount was fractious in the gates, missed the start and then did not travel well in the early stages. He added that when the tempo of the race 4 20150530ROSE quickened on straightening his mount was left flat-footed, before finishing its race off reasonably over the concluding stages. J Ford said that, in his view, Mr One Eleven would now benefit by stepping up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr G McRae concurred with the views of J Ford and advised the Stewards that it would not be the intention to step the gelding up in distance.
  • Great Esteem – App. W Costin advised the gelding travelled well in behind the leaders, but when the tempo increased on straightening could not quicken with the leaders and, whilst it did not finish its race off strongly, it held its ground over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden advised that, with the gelding coming back in distance today following its run in the Scone Cup on 15 May 2015, it was left somewhat flat-footed today when the tempo quickened. He added that Great Esteem had pleased the stable following its Scone run and it will now be their intention to step the gelding up in distance to 1800m at its next race start.

RACE 8: Ranvet Handicap 1200m

  • Impulsive Spirit – trainer Mr J Pride, represented by Ms H Devlin, was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of S Clipperton as the rider of the gelding. Rider S Clipperton stated his instructions were to ride the gelding quiet but, after jumping awkwardly, his mount raced keenly, would not respond to his endeavours to settle his mount in the early stages and, as a consequence, was caught very wide throughout the early and middle stages of the event. He added, as a result, Impulsive Spirit gave ground in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Ms H Devlin stated that the gelding had pleased the stable in its work leading up to the event and the intention had been to endeavour to find cover and ride the gelding quiet. She undertook to report back on the progress of the gelding subsequent to the race.
  • Got The Goss – slow to begin and shortly after the start was hampered when crowded by Off The Rails, which was taken in by Holy Delusions. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight when endeavouring to shift to the outside of Rockalong.
  • Sense And Reason – rider J Collett stated his intention was to settle midfield in an endeavour to find a run to the inside to assist the mare finishing its race off. He added that, when caught wide early, he was obliged to settle further back, whereby his mount was unsuited by then having to come to the outside and, given the circumstances, finished the race off fairly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr L Prior agreed with J Collett in that Sense And Reason was unsuited by racing back and wide and undertook to report back on the progress of the mare subsequent to the race.
