Weekend Wet Trackers

Published: 22 Aug 2014

The rain is falling in Sydney and there is no doubt there will be a Heavy track at 'headquarters' this afternoon. The trainers have reacted with a bunch of scratchings, with talented horses like Earthquake and Messene waiting on the sidelines for another day.

The horses that payout for the win will need to be tough to handle the mud. So which of the remaining runners will be ploughing through the Royal Randwick turf best?

Race 4, Number 2 Bring Me The Maid

She has skipped through the wet in both her starts on a Heavy track, most notably when almost running down Earthquake to get second in the Golden Slipper. The type of horse you don't want to bet against.

Bring Me The Maid always tries hard

Race 6, Number 8 Weary

Waller has got him to improve steadily right from his first run in Australia and during that period he has always shown a liking for wet tracks. His key strength is the ability to maintain his run right to the line, which will come in handy down the long Royal Randwick straight.

Weary can sustain a strong run to the line

Race 7, Number 6 Bennetta

Her wet track statistics don't look the strongest, but each of her runs have been quite good. The lack of a win in recent times seems due to her steady run-on style, and lack of a rapid sprint. They will all be slogging home today and she could just battle home best.

Bennetta is due for a win and the wet may help

Race 8, Number 3 Mount Nebo

A small and nippy horse with a big heart that loves it when the conditions are tough. It brings the real speedsters back to him and he looks primed for a big run at his favourite track.

Mount Nebo is small, tough and loves a wet track
