Vet Notes

  • Berry Delicious (Race 6) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed old wounds to both hind cannons.
  • Vite Loni (Race 9) – was a late withdrawal when behind the barrier, the Club's Veterinary Officer found the gelding to be lame in front.
  • Lipread  (Race 1) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the mare's offhind coronet.

Penalties & Fines

  • B Avdulla, rider of Danish Twist –pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 150m, he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding along when not clear of Figtree, resulting in Figtree losing its rightful running and having to be steadied by its rider. B Avdulla's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 8 May 2016 and to expire on Sunday, 15 May 2016, on which day he may ride.
  • Denpurr – B Avdulla was substituted as the rider of the filly when G Schofield advised he could not make the weight. G Schofield was fined the sum of $300 under AR120(b).

Summary of Races

RACE 1: TAB Highway Plate 1100m:

  • Fettlers Boot – whilst returning to the enclosure, took charge of its rider, App C Nutman and then galloped a considerable distance before Miss Nutman was dislodged at the 1300m. App Nutman sustained no injury in the incident.
  • Professor Marx – jumped awkwardly and shortly after the start, became unbalanced when it shifted in and made contact with Atom Eve.
  • Atom Eve – inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight.
  • Lipread – a post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the mare's offhind coronet.

RACE 2: Richmond Club Provincial Stayers Championship Final Benchmark 85 Handicap 2100m:

  • Thunder Lady – when questioned regarding the mare racing in the lead, App K Jennings stated that he was issued with no set instruction other than to have the mare settle where comfortable. K Jennings stated that from his wide draw, Thunder Lady jumped well and when caught three wide in the early stages, he elected to allow the mare to stride forward and take a position outside the early leader, Reiby the Red. He further stated that his decision to go forward was influenced by the fact that he had ridden the mare in trackwork during the week when he had found Thunder Lady to be one paced and he felt his best option in the circumstances was to be forward. K Jennings further added that throughout the middle stages, with blinkers on for the first time, Thunder Lady raced keenly. He added that when J Penza, rider of Reiby the Red, elected to ease the tempo, he allowed Thunder Lady to continue to stride forward as he felt the mare could cross without making undue use of it, however Reiby the Red persisted to hold the inside running. Trainer, Mr J Sargent confirmed the instructions issued and having regard to App K Jennings' explanations, was not critical of the decision to take up a forward position.
  • Hipparchus – approaching the 600m, was hampered and taken wider when Duca Valentinois shifted out to improve around the heels of Loving Home. Near the 100m, Hipparchus and Duca Valentinois bumped due to both horses shifting ground.

RACE 3: Blakes Marine Claret Stakes 1300m:

  • Radcliffe – laid in under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • Ajani – rider K McEvoy stated the only excuse he could offer for today's poor performance, was that the colt may not have appreciated the shifting track conditions. Co-trainer, Mr Paul Snowden concurred with rider K McEvoy and advised that at this stage, the intention would be to drop the horse back in grade. Mr Snowden undertook to report to Stewards on the progress of Ajani in the days subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • Flow – jumped awkwardly and then was hampered by Swift Express, which shifted in.
  • Angharad – made contact with the outside barrier when jumping away.
  • Lubiton – near the 100m, steadied to avoid the heels of Radcliffe (J McDonald), which shifted in when not clear. Whilst Stewards accepted that Radcliffe was inclined to lay in, J McDonald was nevertheless, asked to exercise more care.
  • Muse – slow to begin.

RACE 4: Hawkesbury XXXX Gold Rush (Open) 1100m:

  • Alberto Magic – on straightening, was hampered when taken wider by Coolring, which shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying poor post-race recovery.
  • Wouldn't It Be Nice – jumped awkwardly and then was steadied to avoid the heels of Furnaces.
  • Fine Mist – near the 200m, was inconvenienced when Skip Course shifted out abruptly.
  • Skip Course – slow to begin and shortly after the start was bumped by Alberto Magic, which was taken in by Fine Mist.

RACE 5: Lander Toyota Ladies Day Cup Benchmark 85 Handicap 1300m:

  • Rock Forthe Ladies – inclined to over-race in the middle stages.
  • Nite Rocker – App T Wolfgram reported to Stewards that in his view, Nite Rocker did not appreciate the quick back-up from its last start at Rosehill Gardens on 23rd April 2016.
  • Ryker – rider, K McEvoy reported that near the 250m, he was struck in the mouth with the buckle of his rein.
  • Onemorezeta – prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards viewed the patrol films to ascertain whether there was grounds for objection subsequent to Onemorezeta being bumped on the hind quarters by Figtree when that runner was taken out by Danish Twist. When Stewards were satisfied that there was not sufficient grounds, bearing in mind the margin of a half-length between first and second, correct weight was declared. Onemorezeta laid in under pressure in the straight.
  • Figtree – B Avdulla, rider of Danish Twist, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 150m, he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding along when not clear of Figtree, resulting in Figtree losing its rightful running and having to be steadied by its rider. RACE 6: 2016 Godolphin Crown (Group 3) 1300m:

  • Artistry – when questioned regarding the mare being ridden in a forward position, rider B Shinn stated that he had no specific instructions but after commencing well, and when Ammirata, which was drawn to his inside, was slow to begin, he elected to take advantage of his good start and crossed to take up a more forward position.
  • Ammirata – rider B Avdulla stated he had intended to be forward in the race, but when his mount missed the start, he elected to allow it to race where comfortable and consequently, settled further back then what he had anticipated. B Avdulla added that Ammirata never travelled comfortably in the run and after being bumped by Fitou near the 800m, the mare then took some time to respond to his riding. In his view, Ammirata was still somewhat disappointing.
  • Cradle Me – steadied to avoid the heels of Fitou near the 800m.
  • Berry Delicious – A post-race veterinary examination revealed old wounds to both hind cannons.
  • Electric Power – steadied to avoid the heels of Fitou near the 800m.
  • Press Report – was inclined to over-race in the middle stages.
  • Role Model – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • Fitou – slow to begin and then hampered shortly after the start when Mahara shifted out. J McDonald stated that making the turn approaching the 800m, Fitou changed stride and commenced to lay out and then as a consequence was positioned close to the heels of Berry Delicious. He added that Fitou then became unbalanced and blundered badly, resulting in J McDonald almost becoming dislodged. Stable Representative, Mr D Beadman undertook to report back to Stewards on the condition of Fitou subsequent to the race and to advise of the future race plans for the mare. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 7: Panthers Hawkesbury Gold Cup Handicap (Group 3) 1600m:

  • Mighty Lucky – held up in the straight until the 200m.
  • Tales of Grimm – slow to begin.
  • Less is More –Stewards permitted G Schofield to ride at 1kg overweight when no other suitable rider was available at the weight. When questioned regarding Less is More leading today, rider G Schofield stated that whilst he had anticipated taking up a more forward position, when caught wide in the early stages and when runners to his inside were not showing the intent to take up the lead, he elected to allow Less is More to cross the field rather than being caught wide. Stable representative, Mr M Robinson confirmed the instructions and indicated similar instructions were issued at the gelding's first-up run at Royal Randwick on 16th April 2016. Nevertheless, Mr Robinson was reminded of his obligations to notify Stewards of any change in riding tactics.
  • Pajaro – slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 8: Blacktown Workers Hawkesbury Guineas (Group 3) 1400m:

  • No More Tears – hampered on jumping when Handfast shifted out. When questioned, rider T Angland could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance of No More Tears and stated that after racing in restricted room on the home turn, the filly was most disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. Trainer, Mr S Marsh advised that No More Tears had pleased since its last start, second placing in the James Carr Stakes and could offer no explanation for today's performance. Mr Marsh advised that No More Tears would be returned to New Zealand and spelled. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • Red Extension – App R Hutchings reported that the gelding got its tongue over the bit in the running.
  • Sir Plush – on the home turn, raced in restricted room between Serene Majesty and No More Tears.
  • Lady Jivago – jumped awkwardly, made contact with the barrier stall and lost ground.
  • Denmagic – jumped awkwardly, resulting in its rider, J Collett's right boot striking the barrier.
  • Denpurr – B Avdulla was substituted as the rider of the filly when G Schofield advised he could not make the weight. G Schofield was fined the sum of $300 under AR120(b). Shortly after the start, Denpurr had to be checked when crowded between Handfast, which made contact with No More Tears and shifted in, and Denmagic which was taken out by Serene Majesty.

RACE 9: Fishboy Seafoods Benchmark 77 Handicap 1500m:

  • Careless – jumped awkwardly.
  • Trafalgar – blundered shortly after the start.
  • Blendwell – was held up for clear running in the straight until the 200m.
  • Vite Loni – was a late withdrawal when behind the barrier, the Club's Veterinary Officer found the gelding to be lame in front. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Vite Loni be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 4.50pm be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st) Mackintosh less 2ȼ win and 2ȼ place 2 nd) Man of Choice 2ȼ place 3 rd) Dream Lane 2ȼ place Trainer, Mr T Croft was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding's next start.
  • Mackintosh – to be ridden quieter; led. When questioned regarding the gelding leading, when trainer, Mr C Waller had notified Stewards that the intention was to ride Mackintosh in a mid-field position, rider B Avdulla confirmed that he had been asked to ride the horse in a mid-field position, but from his wide draw, after initially attempting to take a position behind Dream Lane, when that runner did not continue forward, he was then caught wide and with no opportunity to obtain cover, he allowed Mackintosh to stride forward and lead where it travelled comfortably.
