  • Themis – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly had been galloped on to the nearside hock.

RACE 4: Evans & Partners Handicap 2000m

  • New Tipperary – slow to begin. When questioned concerning the gelding being ridden back in the field today, T Clark stated he had no specific instructions but, from his wide barrier and stepping up in distance, he elected to go back to give his mount the best opportunity to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr J Pride was told he must present the results of an ECG and New Tipperary must trial prior to racing again.
  • Divine Sanction – which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly afterwards when Maven Wiz shifted in. Overraced approaching the 1600m and, when being restrained, ran out across the heels of High Dreamer.
  • Maven Wiz – rider C Reith accidentally dropped his whip near the 300m.

  • High Dreamer – when questioned, rider A Cavallo stated that, in his opinion, the gelding did not handle the rain affected track. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 6: Providence Handicap 1200m

  • Remunerator – hampered at the start when Kokomo jumped awkwardly and shifted out.
  • Kokomo – at the 800m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of Sangiovese.
  • Trois Choix – when questioned, rider S Clipperton stated that he did not have any specific instructions where to position the mare, other than to bounce his mount out. He added Trois Choix began fairly and, although he pushed his mount along early, it did not show the necessary speed to race closer. When questioned as to why he did not make more effort to hold his position passing the 800m when Elle Lou was able to cross and race in advance of him in the one out position, S Clipperton stated his mount was only just on the bit at that stage and he felt, particularly with its big weight, it would not have been in the best interests of the mare to push it along that far out. He added he was able to follow Elle Lou from that point and commenced to niggle Trois Choix rounding the home turn and, whilst his mount, in his view, responded reasonably well, he felt it did not appreciate racing in between horses. S Clipperton further stated that Trois Choix finished the race off reasonably well, however, its run had peaked by the 100m mark. He stated that, whilst Trois Choix performed well racing first up over 1200m, he was now of the opinion that the mare was looking for 1400m, where it would be able to race in its comfort zone. Trainer Mr J Pride stated that he was disappointed that Trois Choix got back in the field as far as it did today, as he had expected it to be midfield. He added that he placed blinkers on the mare today to sharpen it up, being mindful that it was possibly looking for a step up in distance from 1200m. Mr Pride stated he was reasonably happy with the performance of Trois Choix given that, in his opinion, it has been difficult for horses to make ground back in the field today and also that Trois Choix is better suited on tracks that are genuinely soft. When questioned as to whether there had been any set back in the preparation of Trois Choix since its first up win on a Soft (7) at Randwick on 25 April 2016, Mr Pride stated that he had withdrawn the mare last week at Rosehill because of the firm track but, more particularly, because of the wide barrier. He added, with the forecast for rain today, the stable was very confident that Trois Choix would perform well and he had communicated that advice to the owners, who had supported the mare.
  • Bonete – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Sangiovese – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying an abnormal respiratory noise on return to the enclosure and respiratory distress. Stable representative Mr J Bruce was advised the Stewards would require a full veterinary check, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to Sangiovese racing again.

  • Iggi Pop – slow to begin.
  • Settle The Future – approaching the first turn had to steady off the heels of Reiby The Red as Ecuador crossed to the lead.

RACE 8: Harvey Norman Handicap 1800m

  • Olympic Academy – slow to begin and then shortly after the start was checked when crowded by Sabkhat, which was taken in by Egyptian Ruler. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the straight. Approaching the 100m T Clark, rider of Sabkhat, stated that early in the straight his mount showed a tendency to shift out and, as a result, he pulled the whip through into his left hand, whereby Sabkhat immediately straightened and was inclined to shift in. He added, approaching the 100m, Sabkhat ducked out sharply, badly interfering with Shalmaneser and taking Shalmaneser out into the rightful running of Olympic Academy, which was commencing to make ground to is outside. Stewards accepted that in the circumstances T Clark had immediately stopped riding and made every endeavour to direct his mount in. Trainer Mr J O'Shea stated that he would experiment with a change of gear for Sabkhat and perhaps back the gelding up next Saturday at Rosehill. App. A Adkins was reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m (1 additional).
  • Shalmaneser – overraced throughout the middle stages.
  • First Bloom – held up making the home turn. App. A Sewell was reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m (1 additional).
  • Spy Decoder – when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider C Reith stated the gelding was most disappointing and, in his view, may not have backed up from its last start at Rosehill last Saturday. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr A Cummings advised that Spy Decoder had pleased the stable since its last start but, in his view, may not have run out a strong 1800m. Mr Cummings advised that the gelding would now be spelled.

RACE 9: One Solutions Handicap 1400m

  • Careless – after being loaded in the barriers, reared and got its front legs over the gates. Acting on veterinary advice, Careless was withdrawn at 4.26pm. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Careless be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 4.26pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1st) Bullrush less 5ȼ win and 5ȼ place 2nd) Disgraceful less 6ȼ place 3 rd) Invinzabeel less 6ȼ place Trainer Mr J O'Shea was advised that Careless must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being permitted to start again.
  • Invinzabeel – on return to scale protests were lodged by G Schofield, rider of 4th placegetter Invinzabeel, and B Avdulla, rider of 3rd placegetter Disgraceful, against Roguish (App. T Marshall) being declared 2nd on the grounds of interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from the parties concerned, the Stewards found that passing the 100m Roguish commenced to shift out, resulting in Invinzabeel place being crowded out onto Disgraceful, causing both runners to be hampered. Bearing in mind the margins of half a head and a nose, the Stewards upheld both protests and amended the placings accordingly to: 1 st Bullrush 2 nd Disgraceful 3 rd Invinzabeel 4 th Roguish At a subsequent inquiry App. T Marshall, rider of Roguish, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift out and caused interference to Invinzabeel and Disgraceful over the concluding stages. App. Marshall's permit to ride was suspended for a period of four meetings, to be served cumulatively with the suspensenion incurred last Saturday at Rosehill on 21 May 2016 and, as a consequence, App. Marshall will now be eligible to resume riding on Wednesday, 15 June 2016. A post-race veterinary examination of Invinzabeel revealed the gelding lost its off-fore plate in running.
  • Got Unders – knuckled overrace on jumping.
  • Zedfast – crowded on jumping.
  • Forget Maybe – slow to begin.
  • Darci's Affair – leaving the 800m was hampered when momentarily crowded by Disgraceful.
  • Kiseki Dane – laid out under pressure in the straight.
  • Cape Crusader – rider A Hyeronimus advised that, under its big weight of 63 kilograms, he was of the view the gelding did not handle the quick back up on a track that had deteriorated and was rain affected. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mrs G Waterhouse will be asked to report back on the condition of the gelding subsequent to the race.
