Horse of the Week: Music Magnate
Published: 30 May 2016
Group One winner now - Bjorn Baker's Music Magnate is a strong athletic son of Written Tycoon
The Group One Doomben 10,000 this year was closer to a survival of the fittest than a sprint race. Jockeys Zac Purton (FELL SWOOP), Jim Byrne (HOOKED) and Paul King (TWO BLUE) declared war on each other from the barriers, setting an energy-sapping tempo that suited horses back in the field.
During the race the focus turned to Queen of the Turf winner and second-favourite AZKADELLIA, a horse ideally suited by the crazy tactics up-front. But Bjorn Baker's MUSIC MAGNATE proved he is right up to Group One class, surging to the lead and holding the Melbourne mare safely by 0.8 lengths as they hit the line.
It was a plan executed to perfection by the Bjorn Baker stable, with a little bit of help from Purton and co.!
