Scratchings Galore in the Cup

Published: 17 Oct 2014

In what has been a remarkable morning of equine news in the lead up to tomorrow’s Caulfield Cup, both Bande and Dear Demi have been sensationally scratched and will not take their place in the field. This morning vets found heat in Bande’s off fore tendon while the Clarry Connors trained Dear Demi has come down with a throat infection. Connections of Bande, the heavily backed second favourite, left the track without commenting putting an increasing cloud over the gallopers chances of participating in the Melbourne Cup in just over two weeks time. Gai Waterhouses’ charge in The Offer also had to undergo a vets examination but has been passed fit to race although will have to undergo another inspection tomorrow morning.  Todays news adds to the ever changing Caulfield Cup picture with both Dandino and Gris Caro being taken out of the race earlier in the week. Of course these scratching’s now pave the way for all four emergencies forcing their way into the race with Brambles, Araldo, Unchain My Heart and Renew all gaining a start.
