Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 25 November 2017

A few big-priced winners spiced up a low-key day at Rosehill Gardens, free-striding leaders POSITIVE PROBLEMS (picture) and DON'T TEASE ME winning their respective sprint races at the odds of $41 and $20, while INVINZABEEL turned around his form to win too at $26.

It all started with the $1.35 favourite PLAGUE STONE from the Godolphin stable getting rolled in the opening race by the more experienced SECRET LADY ($6.5), an avalanche of money before the race suggesting he should have done a better than his safely held 2nd.

MISS DUBOIS was the only favourite to win on the day, storming home late to take out the $100,000 Country Classic over 2,000 metres, a master stroke again from Matthew Dunn yard.

The GOOD 3 track played well and did firm up towards the end of the day, a slight preference for on-pace runners in the last few races.

A full review will be on-line Monday 12pm.

SECRET LADY led them up at an honest FAIR tempo, while PLAGUE STONE over-raced and moved up on her outside.

The Result

SECRET LADY (1st) fought on best to win from PLAGUE STONE (2nd 1.3L). ORCEIN ran through the line nicely behind them (3rd 1.8L).

The Interest

SECRET LADY did everything right, PLAGUE STONE didn't. Only time will tell which of these gallopers is the better as they continue to progress. ORCEIN (suited to 1200m now) good in third and a margin to the rest. WILD PLANET had improvement to come and got a long way back so could be worth following too. NO FORGIVES.

Race 2 THE HQ OF INSURANCE HANDICAP

All up for grabs in a blanket finish

strong tempo

In The Running

MAID MARILYN took them up at a STRONG tempo with STAR SENSATION moving up on the outside to put some pressure on. A blanket finish in the straight, UP TRUMPZ and LEGAL GIRL not finding too much space in the straight.

The Result

BULL MARKET (1st) ran home best out wider, edging out POETIC CHARMER (2nd 0.2L) and STAR SENSATION (3rd 0.5L) back on the rails. BURDEN OF PROOF (4th 0.7L) swept home out widest. Seven horses crossed the line within 1.8L.

The Interest

Snowden said there wasn't much between his two chargers BULL MARKET ($13) and POETIC CHARMER ($4.2) on the radio in the morning and that's how it turned out. There wasn't much between many of them though! STAR SENSATION did a mighty job on-pace. UP TRUMPZ (5th 1.3L) and LEGAL GIRL (7th 1.8L) with some excuses back in the pack. MAID MARILYN probaby not a 'Rosehill type" and pulled up in the report [vet: slow recovery]. UP TRUMPZ (held up slightly) and LEGAL GIRL (held up slightly).

Race 3 LUNA PARK HANDICAP

Sprinting power with a touch of stamina

fair tempo

In The Running

ZAHSPEED set a start-stop tempo that was FAIR overall, going quick early, then backing it off in the middle stages.

The Result

DAGNY (1st) stormed down the outside to beat GAMBLER'S BLUES (2nd 1L) and ZAHSPEED (3rd 1.8L), who were both nearer the pace.

The Interest

She had more power and sprint than most of these given her 1200m form, it was only a question of stamina up to 1800m. Fighting on-pace behind Just Dreaming the start before this showed her fight and she backed it up with a quiet ride up to 1800m. DAGNY is a middle distance horse to watch, on a GOOD track at least. GAMBLER'S BLUES sure to be in the mix again next time. MORNINGTON wasn't asked for much, found a little bit of trouble and surged home late. INTUERI very poor. NO FORGIVES.

Race 4 BEDFORD CA HANDICAP

All the way at massive odds

fair tempo

In The Running

POSITIVE PROBLEMS took up the lead at an honest FAIR tempo with ANATOLA moving up on her outside.

The Result

POSITIVE PROBLEMS fought on best as they all tired over the final 200m. MISS BALLANTINE (2nd 1.3L) surged through near the inside and OVERSTEP (3rd 1.5L) ran on out wider.

The Interest

BIg odds after a poor effort first-up, POSITIVE PROBLEMS produced a 1200m rating that she'd never done before. Hard to predict when that happens! MISS BALANTINE in for a good prep and ANATOLA (4th 1.7L) perhaps worth a forgive [vet: heat stress] given the report. BLOWING KISSES (6th 2.9L) stuck wide and did OK. The fav' ZONK (5th 1.8L) had her chance.

In The Running

STAR FORTUNE took up the lead at a SLOW tempo and they got rolling into the straight for a LONG SPRINT. JUST DREAMING on the outside of the lead and INVINZABEEL just off her.

The Result

INVINZABEEL quickened up and fought on for a narrow winm from JUST DREAMING (2nd 0.2L), who fought on and TIME FOR TORQUE (3rd 0.7L) making ground.

The Interest

On-pacers dominated and JUST DREAMING just didn't get enough tempo for her to show her superior fight over 1400m. A great ride from Collett on INVINZABEEL got him hime, a frustrating horse that can bob up! MORTON'S FORK very good from the back and worth following. ZUMBELINA back wide and never in it, featuring in the report too [vet: poor post-race recovery]. ZENALICIOUS (held up 'til 250m) a touch unlucky too.

In The Running

DON'T TEASE ME sped out at a STRONG tempo, setting up a 6L lead mid-race. BON AMIS wide near the pace in the chasing pack, he couldn't get cover.

The Result

DON'T TEASE ME just held on from a brave BON AMIS (2nd 0.5L) and TEST THE WORLD (3rd 0.7L) closing out wider. Most horses finishing in a pack.

The Interest

On form ratings DON'T TEASE ME was right in the race down on 50.5kg, he just needed to stay the 1100m, which a firm Rosehill track and canny front-running ride from Rachel Hunt helped him do. BON AMIS clearly the best run in the race (stuck wide) and TEST THE WORLD very honest first-up. SECRET TRAIL (4th 1L) sprinted well out wider and just needed more cover to figure, she has a short sprint. BON AMIS (stuck wide no cover).

Race 9 ANZ BLOODSTOCK NEWS HANDICAP

Too much power for the girls

In The Running

DREAMFORCE took up the running from OUR BELISA at a SLOW tempo, taking off for a LONG SPRINT home from the 800m.

The Result

DREAMFORCE (1st) powered to the line best from OUR BELISA (2nd 2.5L) and ISTRIA (3rd 3.5L).

The Interest

He got control and enjoyed the firm Rosehill conditions best, DREAMFORCE in the right race, while the two mares chasing may prefer tougher conditions. Especially ISTRIA, who is a light lean type that wants a SOFT track at Randwick again next start. VAUCLUSE BAY (9th 7.4L) and XEBEC (10th 8.3L) fine from the back in an impossible race for them, stayers for a couple of starts time.
