Yard to the Post - Rosehill Gardens

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 25 October 2014

The focus was on Melbourne for the Cox Plate, but the racing in Sydney presented a few great stories as the sunshine belted down in Western Sydney. The Godolphin stable brought one of their highly-touted youngsters to the track and Furnaces didn't disappoint with a stunning final 300m to win by over eight lengths. The Exceed and Excel colt will now get ready for the bigger two-year old races.

No matter how impressive he was, he would be lucky to replicate the Country galloper Road to Summer's run after he claimed his fifth victory in a row. Young trainer Melissa Harrison (pictured above after the win) claimed her first city win and it won't be the last if this bold front-runner remains in form.

A race-by-race analysis of the day is provided from the mounting yard to the finish. The complete guide from your team at the track.

Race 1 BILL GILMOUR TENNIS CENTRE PLATE

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Wine Tales Chris Waller Tim Clark 2 53.5
2 Good Project Chris Waller Tye Angland 3 56.0
3 Alegria Darren Beadman Glyn Schofield 4 54.0

In The Yard

REDOUTABLE HEART looks a nice type, ZEDFAST, ALEGRIA appeared well.

In The Running

SANTORIO jumped best to lead out at an EVEN TEMPO from REDOUTABLE HEART and GOOD PROJECT. WINE TALES was a little sluggish and MODOC seemed to over race at the back.

The Result

WINE TALES (1st) had to wait a long time to get the split but when she got one she hit the line well to beat stablemate GOOD PROJECT (2nd) who stuck on well with ALEGRIA (3rd) running on well from off the speed

The Interest

WINE TALES booked a trip to Melbourne with a nice win after being ridden a touch closer in the small field and looks destined for better races. GOOD PROJECT was a big improver and the stable continue have high opinions of him. ALEGRIA kept coming out wide with ZEDFAST who both ran on well. Follow WINE TALES.

Race 2 PRIMO MORAITIS PLATE

Much too hot to handle

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Furnaces John O'Shea Tye Angland 3 56.5
2 Mine Two Garry Frazer Ms Claire Nutman 5 54.5
3 Larrikan Prince Paul & Martha Cave Ms Kathy O'Hara 6 56.5

In The Yard

MINE TWO and STOP THE FIGHT were nice looking fillies. FURNACES had a nice solid build and good hind-quarter. BAGUA was feeling the heat a little, a bit unsettled and carrying some condition. CAPTAIN EXCEL was also sweating up. FLEETNG MELODY was a no-frills type. ULTIMATE FANTASY was on her toes and ready to go.

In The Running

FURNACES pushed on to lead and set a rolling EVEN TEMPO. STOP THE FIGHT and IRELAND were both back and wide.

The Result

FURNACES (1st) responded to the whip and kicked right away to win by more than eight lengths, from MINE TWO (2nd), who battled on bravely from near the pace. LARRIKAN PRINCE (3rd) made a little bit of ground up for a place.

The Interest

The betting was strong late and Godolphin unveiled one of their many good youngsters. It might pay to follow the stable as they bring more good ones to the track. FURNACES may be heading the Blue Diamond now. The form will hold up given the big margins and MINE TWO can be followed in an easier race. STOP THE FIGHT did a good job too, her run just tapering late. Follow FURNACES and MINE TWO.

Race 3 ALPHA FLIGHT SERVICES HANDICAP

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Grand Marshal Chris Waller Jim Cassidy 6 57.0
2 Saigon Tea Chris Waller Glyn Schofield 1 57.0
3 Forever Crazy Chris Waller Tye Angland 8 57.0

In The Yard

PYTHAGOREAN strong after recent racing, FOREVER CRAZY well, SAIGON TEA coat shining BARGE AND CHARGE well built.

In The Running

GRAND MARSHAL posted wide early and rolled forward to join BARGE AND CHARGE at an EVEN TEMPO with SAIGON TEA taking the sit with PYTHAGOREAN on his outside.

The Result

GRAND MARSHAL (1st) stepped up the pressure before the turn and kept going to the line to defeat SAIGON TEA (2nd) who travelled sweetly in behind the speed while FOREVER CRAZY (3rd) came with one long sustained run from last to hit the line well out wide.

The Interest

GRAND MARSHAL was the subject of a good betting plunge and Jimmy Cassidy never panicked and was tough to the line. FOREVER CRAZY and SAIGON TEA (ridden in more fwd position today) now head towards the Matriarch at Flemington in two weeks time and kept the boys honest today. BEYOND THANKFUL looks to have bounced back running up in behind the place getters. PYTHAGOREAN raced too keen for a tough 2000m.

Race 4 SYDNEY MARKETS FILANTE HANDICAP

Big, strong and fast

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Monton Ron Quinton Taylor Marshall 7 61.5
2 I'm Imposing Chris Waller Tye Angland 1 58.5
3 Disciple Sean Casey Jim Cassidy 3 54.0

In The Yard

MONTON was best in yard, big and strong. SPURTONIC was fit and well first-up, while there was no knock on DISCIPLE. I'M IMPOSING was in nice shape, but lacked the power of some of the others. RIVA DE LAGO still had some condition. BOUZY ROUGE looked a level below the colts and geldings.

In The Running

SPURTONIC rolled to the lead and set an honest rolling EVEN TEMPO, from MONTON outside him. DISCIPLE took the box seat.

The Result

MONTON (1st) maintained a strong run to the line to hold off I'M IMPOSING (2nd) and DISCIPLE (3rd), who didn't get much room in the straight.

The Interest

An honest speed meant that form-levels held up. MONTON was simply a superior sprinter and he took the prize. DISCIPLE looked a bit unlucky and if he finds a similar race with a low weight again he can compete. I'M IMPOSING enjoyed the honest tempo and looked to have his chance, while BOUZY ROUGE was as honest as always. She just lacked the power to run home when the whips were cracking. RIVA DE LAGO just isn't fit at the moment, it will be interesting to see if Waller presses on. No Follows or Forgives.

Race 5 HARVEY NORMAN HANDICAP

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Spinning Diamond Sam Kavanagh Jim Cassidy 1 54.0
2 Without a Shadow Clarry Conners Tye Angland 5 55.5
3 Peace Force Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Jason Collett 8 57.5

In The Yard

TRANSFERS and WITHOUT A SHADOW a little warm, DOUBTFUL MISS a solid type, PEACE FORCE appeared to have come on,

In The Running

A great jump with WITHOUT A SHADOW leading PEACE FORCE at an EVEN TEMPO with DOUBTFUL MISS and SPINNING DIAMOND. PILLOW TALK was wide without cover throughout

The Result

WITHOUT A SHADOW (2nd) boxed on all the way up the straight until SPINNING DIAMOND (1st) gained a split with 50m to go to win well. PEACE FORCE (3rd) seemed to have every chance.

The Interest

SPINNING DIAMOND was well backed and just reward for trainer Sam Kavanagh as he has had a lot of issues along the way. WITHOUT A SHADOW disappointed last start after being backed up too quickly but was saved for this and fought on well. MADE TO ORDER rattled home from the back while PILLOW talk stuck on well after racing wide throughout. TRANSFERS was always a little and did not come on. Follow SPINNING DIAMOND Forgive MADE TO ORDER

Race 6 CANTERBURY LEAGUE CLUB HANDICAP

Shinn makes the most of clear air

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Atmospherical Robert Smerdon Blake Shinn 10 57.5
2 Alberto Magic Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) Taylor Marshall 3 58.0
3 Biloxi Rick Worthington Brenton Avdulla 1 59.0

In The Yard

GREEN BERET was best in the yard, a long and strong galloper. ATMOSPHERICAL paraded well as usual. ROSE OF FALVELON impressed, with some nice muscle, along with IVORY COGNAC. ALBERTO MAGIC was on his toes, but didn't have the size of others.

In The Running

GREEN BERET was hustled forward out wide to put pressure on ALBERTO MAGIC and ROSE OF FALVELON. FLORAL INSIGHT was out even wider. A GOOD TEMPO was set up.

The Result

ALBERTO MAGIC (2nd) kicked in the straight, but ATMOSPHERICAL (1st) pushed clear and powered home best.

The Interest

There are theories that ATMOSPHERICAL doesn't get 1200m, and maybe she doesn't, but a more likely scenario is that she is a bit one-paced as a sprinter. She enjoyed the good honest speed here, which enabled her to finish over the top of them with her athletic frame. ALBERTO MAGIC and GREEN BERET both put in great runs and can be followed with confidence. The run of ALBERTO MAGIC makes SENTA DE NOCHE an interesting runner next time he steps up (he was scratched from this event). Forgive GREEN BERET.

Race 7 PALMERBET HANDICAP

Five in a row starts an endless summer

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Road to Summer Melissa Harrison Ms Winona Costin 8 60.0
2 Underestimation Tony & Calvin McEvoy Jason Collett 7 57.0
3 Moral Victory Tim Martin Adam Hyeronimus 15 57.0

In The Yard

ROAD TO SUMMER hard and fit, ABBASSO and PERPLEXITY a little bit soft, MORAL VICTORY well.

In The Running

ROAD TO SUMMER flew the gates and landed on the speed setting an EVEN TEMPO from MORAL VICTORY with IDEAL POSITION and UNDERESTIMATION in behind. ABBASSO was wide throughout.

The Result

ROAD TO SUMMER (1st) led all the way and showed his toughness to defeat the heavily tried UNDERESTIMATION (2nd) who enjoyed a good run while MORAL VICTORY (3rd) stuck on well.

The Interest

ROAD TO SUMMER was too tough, too strong and too quick for his rivals today and continues to progress and race in fine style. UNDERESTIMATION was subject of a good market plunge and enjoyed a gun run in behind the speed and had no excuses. ABBASSO appeared soft in the yard and needed the run. PERPLEXITY is a middle distance horse and raced out of his comfort zone today. No Follows or Forgives.

Race 8 MEN OF LEAGUE HANDICAP

Never rule out Waller

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 You'll Never Chris Waller Jason Collett 4 54.5
2 Dothraki Peter & Paul Snowden Blake Shinn 6 59.0
3 Skip Town Tim Martin Tye Angland 9 56.0

In The Yard

YOU'LL NEVER, DOTHRAKI and EMBLEMS looked nice powerful types. BOSS LANE was in good shape, but didn't have the power of others.

In The Running

BOSS LANE moved up and just raced off a genuine GOOD TEMPO, set up by DIDNTCOSTALOT and KING COBIA.

The Result

DOTHRAKI (2nd) move up to hit the lead. YOU'LL NEVER (1st) swept down the outside late to win and SKIP TOWN (3rd) fought on ok. EMBLEMS was onto heels late

The Interest

SKIP TOWN was brave as usual after a wide run, but the horses to follow form this are DOTHRAKI and EMBLEMS, who both did a good job despite racing near a genuine speed. BOSS LANE just doesn't perform at Rosehill. YOU'LL NEVER was suited swooping and he looks set for more wins over 1400m. KING COBIA can improve after doing work in this race. Follow DOTHRAKI and EMBLEMS.
