Yard to the Post - Rosehill

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 06 December 2014

What started out as a hot and steamy day with the track being upgraded from a Heavy 8 to a Soft 5 ended with a large downpour before the last and back to a Heavy 8 to really give the new track ratings a work out. Up until the rain came, the track was playing fairly with winners coming from near the pace and also from the rear. Jockeys tended to stay away from the rail as the day went on. A couple of close finishes adding to the excitement.

A return to the winners circle for Saigon Tea was the standout win of the day with the Waller mare sustaining a run from last to run away from her rivals back in distance. She has been a little unlucky in her races of late but powered home with a strong performance today.

Auberge and Vashka both won decisively to boot home a double for Godolphin as the stable continues on its winning ways. These are both progressive horses that are doing all the right things on the track and will both continue to improve.

Jockeys honours were evenly spread with Hugh Bowman riding a winning double.

A race-by-race analysis of the day is provided from the mounting yard to the finish. The complete guide from your team at the track.

All The Race Finishes

Race 1 SIRE CUSTODIANS PLATE

Margins decisive for the 2 Year Olds

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Voilier Gary Nickson Tye Angland 4 56.0
2 Zoutenant Gary Portelli Glyn Schofield 1 56.0
3 Skyclad Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Blake Shinn 6 56.0

In The Yard

A hot and steamy one in the yard. READY ALREADY and SKY CLAD nice types. VOILIER looked fit. ZOUTENANT looked relaxed and carried a little condition. INVINCIBLE DAME an athletic type but a little worked up going to the barriers.

In The Running

ZOUTENANT held inside running to lead at an EVEN TEMPO from SKYCLAD. VOILIER enjoyed a nice sit with INVINCIBLE DAME another length back. SKYCLAD went down on nose on jumping and FRANCAIS missed start 2L.

The Result

VOILIER (1st) eased around the leaders heels around the turn and pounced to run away from ZOUTENANT (2nd) who kicked on the inside with SKYCLAD (3rd) boxing on in behind.

The Interest

A Soft track was the query for the 2 Year Old debutants with Gary Nickson producing another smart youngster in VOILIER who looks a very natural and athletic horse that relaxes well. The well supported Beneteau gelding was aided with a great ride by Tye Angland who took a sit when the speed was keen early and was impressive late. He will now be put away until the autumn. ZOUTENANT did a lot of early work and condition may have told last 200m but showed plenty of fight to kick on in the straight. SKYCLAD showed good speed and knocked up. READY ALREADY was off the bridle coming to the home corner while INVINCIBLE DAME showed no early speed and is from a stable offers more with their horses further into their preparations. Big margins in the end 3 1/2L x 1 3/4L. Follow VOILIER and ZOUTENANT

Race 2 DISSIDENT @ NEWGATE FARM PLATE

The filly defeats the boys

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Berry Delicious Jason Coyle Jason Collett 3 54.0
2 Testashadow Gary Portelli Tim Clark 6 57.0
3 Good Project Chris Waller Hugh Bowman 5 56.0

In The Yard

TESTASHADOW and GOOD PROJECT paraded well. REDOUBTABLE HEART appeared nice and relaxed.

In The Running

BINARY showed good gate speed and clung to the rail with EISENHOWER on his outside at a SLOW TEMPO with REDOUBTABLE HEART posted 3 Wide and FURBISH on the rail.

The Result

BERRY DELICIOUS (1st) swooped late from last to run over the top of TESTASHADOW (2nd) who both finished wide out from GOOD PROJECT (3rd) and FURBISH who finished nearer the rail.

The Interest

The track was upgraded to a SOFT 6 after race 1 and a tactical affair presented itself here with the tempo being dropped out of this race. The lightly raced filly BERRY DELICIOUS was able to beat the boys today and was specked at odds as she enjoyed the last crack at them to score well. She is building a nice record and displays a good short, sharp sprint and looks to have a nice future. TESTASHADOW improved into this second up and has come on well since his last run and the improving track helped. He had to give the filly 3kg here which proved to be the difference. GOOD PROJECT has had a few tough runs this preparation and this may have told as he had his chance toward the inside. FURBISH drew the inside gate which did not look like ideal spot to display his usual powerful finish. The Kensington track form was the query here with many runners racing on the shifty surface last start and duly noted going forward.

Race 3 I AM INVINCIBLE @ YARRAMAN PARK HANDICAP

Off The Rails gets the bob

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Off the Rails Bjorn Baker Hugh Bowman 6 57.0
2 Magical Stance Ron Quinton Sam Clipperton 8 55.0
3 Frespanol Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott James McDonald 7 59.0

In The Yard

SURGE AHEAD and OFF THE RAILS looked well. MAGICAL STANCE hard fit and DYLAN'S ROJO also in good condition. A few just sweating up a bit.

In The Running

FRESPANOL worked forward after a tardy start to lead out at an EVEN TEMPO from DYLAN'S ROJO on his outside with SURGE AHEAD and OFF THE RAILS enjoying a nice sit in behind.

The Result

An exciting finish with FRESPANOL (3rd) leading all the way bar the finishing post as OFF THE RAILS (1st) made a lunge while MAGICAL STANCE (2nd) came late after working wide most of the race.

The Interest

The market suggested OFF THE RAILS would be too good and better suited over the 1500m and it took the whole the timing of Hugh Bowman and all of the Rosehill straight to prove this as he got there in the final bound for a deserved victory. An early decision was made by Tye Angland to work forward after slightly missing the start on FRESPANOL and he was gallant in defeat today as he gave plenty of cheek out in front and enjoyed the sting out of track since a freshen up. MAGICAL STANCE was posted wide throughout and was brave today and the query remains as to what his pet journey is. ABASSO was on the quick backup and the 59kg was always going to be the worry. SURGE AHEAD was disappointing today and does not appear to be a Rosehill horse. Follow FRESPANOL. Forgive MAGICAL STANCE.

Race 4 GOLDNERS HORSE TRANSPORT HANDICAP

Auberge gives Bowman a double

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Auberge John O'Shea Hugh Bowman 6 56.0
2 Retort Courteous Steve Englebrecht Blake Shinn 10 56.0
3 Bet Thehouse On It Kerry Parker Sam Clipperton 12 54.0

In The Yard

BARGE AND CHARGE a powerful type. HABITUAL OFFENDER fit however sweating a little as was HIS HIGHNESS. SIR BIGGLESWORTH a smaller type. RETORT COURTEOUS rock hard fit. WHITE DEVON, BET THEHOUSE ON IT and AUBERGE paraded well.

In The Running

WHITE DEVON rolled to the lead from HABITUAL OFENDER at an EVEN TEMPO with THUNDER SET sliding through along the rail after slightly missing the start and SIR BIGGLESWORTH outside. RETORT COURTEOUS took off mid race to sit outside the lead. TWO RONNYS and AUBERGE all missed the start slightly.

The Result

Blake Shinn made a mid race move to take off on RETORT COURTEOUS (2nd) and inject some pace into the race but was worn down by AUBERGE (1st) who hit the front 200m from home and powered away. There was a good margin back to BET THEHOUSE ON IT (3rd) who plugged home.

The Interest

The lightly raced AUBERGE nearly got there at his first go 2400m last start and lapped up the same distance today to win impressively and may be a stayer on the rise. When they bunched approaching the turn, Hugh Bowman just glided through the field and after settling well, ran away from his rivals winning by 3 1/4L. RETORT COURTEOUS is a son of Zabeel and relished the trip and also put a 3 1/4L margin on third. TWO RONNYS lobbed into a nice position under a light weight and didn't run on today. HERESDECASINO was on the limit weight and worked home like a stayer while HABITUAL OFFENDER seemed to be the first horse beaten in the straight after a nice run in transit. SIR BIGGLESWORTH was also disappointing. BARGE AND CHARGE finished off well after settling last. Follow AUBERGE.

Race 5 THE "HQ OF INSURANCE" HANDICAP

McDonald gets the best out of the Beast

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Beauty's Beast Danny O'Brien James McDonald 7 54.0
2 Amovatio Chris Waller Jim Cassidy 9 56.0
3 Pythagorean Chris Waller Kerrin McEvoy 1 56.0

In The Yard

HOYLONNY and BLACK JAG bigger in condition. AMOVATIO, PYTHAGOREAN and YOU'LL NEVER paraded well as did KAYPERS. BEAUTY'S BEAST looked fit but sweated up a little.

In The Running

BEAUTY'S BEAST worked to get in and led at a GOOD TEMPO from BLACK JAG and PYTHAGOREAN with YOU'LL NEVER settling well in behind. HOYLONNY missed the start (1.5L) and AMOVATIO (2L).

The Result

BEAUTY'S BEAST (1st) and PYTHAGOREAN (3rd) skipped away in the straight with the former showing tenacity over the final strides to stave off the strong finish of AMOVATIO (2nd) who came from last after missing the start.

The Interest

BEAUTY'S BEAST had to work early and did a great job after sweating up before the race. He has been threatening to win of late and showed determination to do just that today. AMOVATIO has mixed his distances of late and ran on well from the back to go down by a nose after missing the start. He settled better today and enjoyed the pressure on up front. PYTHAGOREAN also settled better today and was suited from the inside gate and fought on well. YOU'LL NEVER was disappointing after settling nicely in behind the speed suggesting 1400m is as far as he wants. KAYPERS also had every chance. BLACK JAG has never won here at Rosehill and dropped right out after rolling forward.

Race 6 HORSEPOWER FEEDS & SUPPLEMENTS HANDICAP

Saigon Tea laps up the wet

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Saigon Tea Chris Waller Kerrin McEvoy 5 58.5
2 Medcaut John O'Shea Blake Shinn 4 55.5
3 Dowdstown Charlie Kim Waugh Jim Cassidy 10 54.0

In The Yard

FAUST big and strong. SAIGON TEA and DRAGO relaxed and well. MEDCAUT strong through the girth. DOWDSTOWN CHARLIE shiny in coat.

In The Running

DREAM FOLK rolled forward to lead at an EVEN TEMPO from DRAGO with COLOUR PURPLE and MEDCAUT in behind the speed.

The Result

SAIGON TEA (1st) came with a strong sustained run from the rear to outgun MEDCAUT (2nd) who boxed on well with DOWDSTOWN CHARLIE (3rd) running on along the rails.

The Interest

Another track upgrade to a SOFT 5 saw SAIGON TEA the subject of a betting drift and is always competitive over a range of distances. She got to the outside here and wound up strongly to defeat another progressive Godolphin horse. Blake Shinn gave MEDCAUT a lovely ride and was beaten by a better horse on the day. DRAGO has never been the punters pal and again loomed at the 300m and hit the lead but just does not want to salute the judge. Follow SAIGON TEA and MEDCAUT.

Race 7 INTERNATIONAL ANIMAL HEALTH HANDICAP

Godolphin make it a double

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Vashka John O'Shea Blake Shinn 1 59.0
2 Maddhal Joseph Pride Koby Jennings 7 58.0
3 Valcot Greg Bennett Taylor Marshall 4 60.0

In The Yard

PERFECT WEAPON big in condition. ROCKFORD and VASHKA paraded well. MADDHAL a little stirred up heading out of the yard. POLTAVA healthy coat.

In The Running

VASHKA rolled forward to lead at an EVEN TEMPO from ONE MORE with MADDHAL and POLTAVA in behind.

The Result

VASHKA (1st) strode ahead to the turn and stayed away from the inside to win decisively from MADDHAL (2nd) and VALCOT (3rd) who rain on well late.

The Interest

VASHKA has really come into his own this preparation and was heavily supported to be the best backed runner of the day. Under stormy skies, Blake Shinn didn't need to hustle and he dropped anchor then balanced up and pulled away. MADDHAL is only lightly raced and had trialled well into this and will take improvement going forward. VALCOT was better held up today and hit the line well. POLTAVA disappointed after being well supported while RICHARD THE FIRST and MAGIC DALLAS both ran on well from the rear. Follow VASHKA.

Race 8 PHILLIP HUGHES TRIBUTE

The bookies keep the cash with Burbero

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Burbero Bjorn Baker Brodie Loy 8 60.0
2 Forget Kim Waugh Sam Clipperton 6 56.5
3 Zin Zan Eddie Matthew Smith Taylor Marshall 7 58.5

In The Yard

The rain was tumbling down as the horses paraded. KEREDARI was carrying condition. MURDER OF CROWS paraded well. FORGET is a big strong type. No knock others.

In The Running

MOHAVE drove through to lead KUDERO at an EVEN TEMPO with MR JACKMAN and SNITSKY in behind. KERADARI missed start (1L)

The Result

FORGET (2nd) sprinted to the lead with 100m to go only to see BURBERO (1st) fight back to win in the final strides with ZIN ZAN EDDIE (3rd) running on well.

The Interest

After a heavy downpour the track was downgraded to a HEAVY 8. This definitely suited BURBERO who after showing no early speed saved ground along the inside then challenged and fought back to score after being headed. FORGET was the omen pick of the day with Ricky Ponting and Mark Waugh in the ownership in a tough week for Australian cricket. FORGET loomed and and looked the winner 75m from home and the run just tapered off final stages. ZIN ZAN EDDIE relished the wet conditions and picked up late to run home well from near the rear. MURDER OF CROWS just got too far out of his ground today after being shuffled back to last on the turn and ran home well. QUEENIAN made up good ground after a wide run. Of the leaders, MOHAVE was a notable market drifter after the rain came and was unproven in the ground and didn't stretch out in the going while KUDERO boxed on ok. Follow FORGET, MURDER OF CROWS and ZIN ZAN EDDIE. Forgive MOHAVE.
