Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 27 June 2015

A 'sticky' Rosehill Gardens track made it tough for punters, but not for Winona Costin as she booted home three runners to out-ride her 2kg claim.

She found the fast lane a few horses off the fence on BEAUTY'S BEAST (picture), QUEEN OF KARIBA and INTREPID WAY, who won at good odds in Race 1 for the two-year-olds.

The signs were promising for BEAUTY'S BEAST as on-pace runners started to perform late in the day. Costin had let him drift back to the rails last start when MIRAGE ran him down, a canny move out to the centre of the track this time helped the bold front-runner reverse the placings.

In other races, the genuine fillies and mares BERRY DELICIOUS, QUEEN OF KARIBA and TWO BLUE all relished the mud to out-fight their rivals.

There's no doubt the horse to follow from the day is Melbourne raider KAPOUR. He made talented Sydney stayers BONFIRE and DANCHAI look second-rate in the feature Winter Cup over 2,400 metres, winning by a big margin.

A full race-by-race analysis will be on-line Sunday at 9am, the complete guide from your team at the track.

Race 1 TAB PLACE MULTI HANDICAP

Costin finds the fast lane early

fair tempo
Bias: off-rails

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Intrepid Way Amanda Turner Ms Winona Costin 5 56.0
2 Electric Tribute Archie Alexander Tye Angland 1 55.0
3 Over the Air David Payne Glyn Schofield 7 55.0

Intrepid Way stormed home late to win

In The Yard

Favourites LIEDER and LIBIDOSUN both well in the yard, OVER THE AIR compact and genuine, while MINARET didn't impress. ELECTRIC TRIBUTE has some talent, but how will he handle being back on the inside of runners for the first time?

In The Running

TURBO MISSS rolled to the lead and set a FAIR TEMPO, from OVER THE AIR who had jumped best. ALERT BY SEA was wider with no cover and ELECTRIC TRIBUTE got the box seat and settled nicely. Fav's LIEDER and LIBIDOSUN were back in midfield.

The Result

ELECTRIC TRIBUTE (2nd) came wider and moved to the lead at the 275m, but INTREPID WAY (1st) flew late from last to grab the win. OVER THE AIR (3rd) got onto heels late. LIEDER (4th) wasn't far off while LIBIDOSUN was plain in midfield.

The Interest

Not sure of ELECTRIC TRIBUTE wondered around in the lead, or if he genuinely got tired, but his run ended at the same time as INTREPID WAY got going. It made for an exciting finish! The form of the winner and OVER THE AIR, who was a touch unlucky (...but may not have won) stacked up, while the LIEDER/LIBIDOSUN form-line didn't. No Follows or Forgives.

Race 2 SCHWEPPES HANDICAP

McEvoy leads from the front

steady tempo
Bias: off-rails

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Maurus John Thompson Kerrin McEvoy 5 54.0
2 Loophole Chris Waller Glyn Schofield 2 54.0
3 Der Meister Paul Perry Thomas Huet 4 54.0

Maurus dominated the race and was never headed

In The Yard

BANKSTERS BONUS paraded well, along with MISSVONN, who was well in herself pulling the strapper around at times. CASINO DANCER looked a bit 'dusty' as usual. MISSVONN threw the jockey off going around to the barriers.

In The Running

MAURUS had no pressure to lead from BANKSTERS BONUS and set a STEADY TEMPO. MISSVONN got the box seat and SIR MAKO was restrained to the back. Huet joined in wider on DER MEISTER on the turn, as MISSVONN was out-sprinted.

The Result

MAURUS (1st) stoked up, came wider and sustained his run. LOOPHOLE (2nd) made ground down the outside to catch DER MEISTER (3rd) on the line. SIR MAKO was blocked in the run home.

The Interest

Not many lengths between the top few in this. MAURUS is a real racehorse, once the others gave him a cheap lead it was always going to be hard to get past him. As for the fav' MISSVONN, she got out-sprinted and only started to warm up late in the race... a STRONG TEMPO and more distance might be the recipe for her next time. Either way, she showed that she's a horse that needs conditions to suit. LOOPHOLE and SIR MAKO were both good for Waller and Huet gave SIR MEISTER a smart ride. Don't be too harsh on MYDREAM (up to 1900m) and CASINO DANCER, they're both genuine enough to bounce back in a more suitable race. Forgive SIR MAKO.

Race 3 DYLDAM SIGNIFICANT STAKES

Direct from the bush to the winners stall

fair tempo
Bias: off-rails

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Kiseki Dane Jim & Greg Lee Koby Jennings 4 59.0
2 It's About You Peter G Moody & Katherine Coleman Blake Shinn 9 59.0
3 Skyline Blush Anthony Cummings Brenton Avdulla 10 57.0

Kiseki Dane chased hard down the outside

In The Yard

IT'S ABOUT YOU well in the yard, not an obvious staying type though. OUR CATCH and SIRIUS SPY strong on-pace types. SKYLINE BLUSH fit and well, at her peak.

In The Running

OUR CATCH rolled to the lead from SIRIUS SPY and set a rolling FAIR TEMPO. SKYLINE BLUSH got a trail off the leaders and IT'S ABOUT YOU was restrained back in the pack.

The Result

SIRIUS SPY (5th) took over, but IT'S ABOUT YOU (2nd) ran on nearer the inside and KISEKI DANE (1st) ran on best down the outside. SKYLINE BLUSH (3rd) fought on solidly.

The Interest

IT'S ABOUT YOU was the classiest animal in the race, but the HEAVY conditions, 1900m and taking the inside run (wider slightly better) brought his undoing. KISEKI DANE had dominated a lowly BM 55 last start (....a much easier race!), he took the massive jump up in class in style. That's two runs over 1700m+ for two impressive wins for him now. SIRIUS SPY and SKYLINE BLUSH were both very solid after racing on an honest tempo. OUR CATCH tailed off to last, not for the first time. No Follows or Forgives.

Race 4 RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE WESTMEAD WINTER CUP

French form fills the quinella

steady tempo
Bias: off-rails

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Kapour Ciaron Maher Kerrin McEvoy 4 54.0
2 Bonfire Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Danny Beasley 2 59.0
3 Danchai Eric Musgrove Hugh Bowman 1 55.5

Kapour strode clear of the field for a big win

In The Yard

BONFIRE on his toes, fit, most well, including DREAM FOLK, but he's a risk in small field (bit one-paced).

In The Running

KAPOUR took up the lead and set only a STEADY TEMPO, from BONFIRE on his outside. DREAM FOLK went back.

The Result

KAPOUR (1st) picked up from the turn and surged clear, from BONFIRE (2nd) and DANCHAI (3rd) who fought on. OUR VOODOO PRINCE picked up briefly on the turn, but his run ended quickly.

The Interest

Simply a superior stayer in the wet, KAPOUR had the scope based on his runs overseas, but he hadn't done much in Australia to date. A couple of runs this preparation and a trip to the hurdle trials did the job. Interestingly, he'd finished close up to BONFIRE when they were both racing in France. DANCHAI did enough, while the run of OUR VOODOO PRINCE ended quickly. That might be the end of his long, and winless, preparation too. Don't be too harsh on DREAM FOLK, a drier track and STRONG TEMPO suit better. Follow KAPOUR.

Race 5 QUILTON SPRINT

The Queen keeps her crown

fair tempo
Bias: off-rails

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Queen of Kariba Joseph Pride Ms Winona Costin 6 55.0
2 Dupe 'em Chris Waller Glyn Schofield 2 54.0
3 Aerobar Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Kerrin McEvoy 9 56.0

Queen of Kariba flew home from the back

In The Yard

All horse ok in the yard, a very open race. WELL HARDLEY EVER nice and fit. KIPLING more power than most. LOCKROY could be a risk sprinting off a faster tempo, a powerful type.

In The Running

AEROBAR went to the lead from ECHO GAL and set a FAIR TEMPO. QUEEN OF KARIBA was slow to begin and got back.

The Result

QUEEN OF KARIBA (1st) picked up through the pack and sprinted home, putting a margin on the rest. DUPE' EM (2nd) came wider and chased home to catch AEROBAR (3rd)

The Interest

She's absolutely flying this girl! Another big win for QUEEN OF KARIBA, she is a neat type that is relishing the Winter months and wet tracks. DUPE 'EM was OK, along with AEROBAR, ECHO GAL and KIPLING. The Waterhouse trained ECHO GAL could be better when she finds the lead. The LOCKROY and WELL HARDLEY EVER form-line didn't measure up, they got the quinella in their last race at Rosehill and filled the last two spots here! Follow QUEEN OF KARIBA.

Race 6 PERFECTION FRESH HANDICAP

Costin steers home a treble

fair tempo
Bias: off-rails

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Beauty's Beast Danny O'Brien Ms Winona Costin 7 55.0
2 Mirage Darren Weir Glyn Schofield 4 56.0
3 You'll Never Chris Waller Blake Shinn 1 59.0

Beauty's Beast found a good rhythm in the lead

In The Yard

CAFE SOCIETY fit, keen, but no knock, RUGGED CROSS smaller and suited in wet. GOOD VALUE has travelled up in good shape. ROCKALONG well.

In The Running

BEAUTY'S BEAST rolled to the lead and set a FAIR TEMPO, from MIRAGE taking the trail. GOOD VALUE tracked up on the turn, but veered out wider.

The Result

BEAUTY'S BEAST (1st) maintained a good rhythm and held off MIRAGE (2nd), who fought on. YOU'LL NEVER (3rd) picked up nearer the inside and ran on. The sprint of RUGGED CROSS and GOOD VALUE ended.

The Interest

The same trifecta from a couple of weeks ago, except BEAUTY'S BEAST managed to turn the tables. Costin steered him wider than she did in his last race and it was a winning move. MIRAGE and YOU'LL NEVER were both good. GOOD VALUE disappointed after tracking up OK on the turn.. his lack of experience around a right-hand bend didn't help, but he was no match in the end. No Follows or Forgives.

Race 7 CELLARBRATIONS HANDICAP

Another tasty win for Jason Coyle

strong tempo
Bias: off-rails

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Berry Delicious Jason Coyle Tye Angland 5 56.0
2 Vergara Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Blake Shinn 10 59.0
3 Berrimilla Chris Waller Hugh Bowman 9 56.0

Berry Delicious ran on strongly from the back

In The Yard

Even group of mares. BERRY DELICIOUS parades as usual.TRANSFERS and SENSUALISM free-striding on-pace types. VERGARA and KARAKUCHI both touch more power, very HEAVY a risk?

In The Running

TRANSFERS pushed forward to set a STRONG TEMPO, a few lengths ahead of VERGARA and SENSUALISM, who had missed the start and had to work forward. BERRIMILLA had a nice trail in midfield and BERRY DELICIOUS got right back.

The Result

VERGARA (2nd) tracked up behind the leader and moved up, but BERRY DELICIOUS (1st) sustained a strong surge from the back. BERRIMILLA (3rd) was held up briefly and wound up late to grab a place from SENSUALISM (4th), who fought on.

The Interest

The top four all ran well, BERRY DELICIOUS just too fit and genuine for the older mares this time, winning her second race in a week. VERGARA showed her class, despite the HEAVY not being ideal, while BERRIMILLA hit the line. Not much went right for SENSUALISM, she never had cover chasing the hot speed and is racing in top form. KARAKUCHI didn't seem to stay the distance. Follow BERRY DELICIOUS and VERGARA. Forgive SENSUALISM.

Race 8 TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP

A true blue Aussie out-fights them

fair tempo
Bias: off-rails

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Two Blue Kristen Buchanan Paul King 9 57.5
2 Kristy Lee Chris Waller Tye Angland 21 58.0
3 Foreign Prince David Payne Ms Jess Taylor 1 56.5

Two Blue was brave out in the lead

In The Yard

TWO BLUE a very honest on-pacer that looked well in the yard. KRISTY LEE and WONDERBOLT power to sprint, but wet track a risk?

In The Running

TWO BLUE pushed forward to lead at a FAIR TEMPO, from SNITSKY on her outside and IDANCE out wider (no cover). FOREIGN PRINCE got the box seat. COOLCRAFT was pushed wider on the turn and KRISTY LEE went right back.

The Result

TWO BLUE (1st) came wider and kept lifting to hang on, from KRISTY LEE (2nd) , who flew down the outside late. FOREIGN PRINCE (3rd) followed the winner through.

The Interest

You'd love to own a horse like this girl, a real fighter! She and BEAUTY'S BEAST had been the only two horses to lead and fight on two weeks ago on a 'swoopers' day - they both got their just returns this time. KRISTY LEE has come back in great form. WONDERBOLT was travelling so well in the run, perhaps 1100m on a drier track is the recipe for him? IDANCE and COOLCRAFT both didn't have the best luck in the run, along with MAGIC DALLAS, who didn't find much room. Forgive IDANCE and COOLCRAFT.
