Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 14 November 2015

It was a day for wet trackers at Rosehill Gardens after Friday's rain took the turf into the heavy range.

In the highest rating races, two open handicaps over 1,900 metres and 1,350 metres, long-priced winners were victorious.  Both BRING LUCK and ZANBAGH stayed on better than the rest in the mud.

It was a great training performance by John Thompson to get ZANBAGH (picture) back to her best; very classy at three-years-old, she hadn't fired in recent seasons. Her closing sectionals suggest she is a horse to follow in the future.

A full review of the day will be on-line Monday at 9am.

In The Running

AMBER ISLE jumped best to take up the running from PITTSBURGH. FARAWAY TOWN was under a tight hold on the inside of COOL IN BLACK.

The Result

PITTSBURGH (2nd) put the pressure on and took over from AMBER ISLE (last, 5th) and looked the winner, but drifted in late and was beaten by FARAWAY TOWN (1st), who kept coming up the inside. COOL IN BLACK (3rd) fought on under vigorous riding.

The Interest

Form-lines will be hard to measure up from these races, the genuine HEAVY track giving us a wet track lead and not much else. FARAWAY TOWN impressed and clearly PITTSBURGH has talent. But AMBER ISLE doesn't look like a wet track type so it's hard to rule out a turnaround next time. No Follows or Forgives.

Race 2 CELLARBRATIONS THE GRANGE WYOMING HANDICAP

In The Running

CARTIER ROCK was slow to begin. BROOKLYN STORM pushed forward and took up the running at a good honest tempo from STOKER, DINGHU MOUNTAIN and AURORA GLOW. There was a big gap from those four to the pack.

The Result

As the leader tired, DINGHU MOUNTAIN (2nd), STOKER (3rd) and AURORA GLOW (4th) fought on to take over, but MORE TO GAIN (1st) came out of the pack and surged past down the outside.

The Interest

Interesting race and the way it set up horses in the second pack were up against it. BROOKLYN STORM was the leader of a breakaway group and MORE TO GAIN had to sustain a long run home to get the win. A great wet track performance. Of the others, it's hard to get too much of a line. AURORA GLOW had no cover and was under pressure early. His run was as good as any other. No Follows or Forgives.

In The Running

HE'S A THIEF kicked up on the inside and led from EM DOUBLE YOU BEE. DASHIE DE LUXE and ECCITARE were just in behind. GRAND PROPOSAL was wide midfield.

The Result

DASHIE DE LUXE (1st) snuck up the inside on the turn and got a break on ECCITARE (2nd), who came around the leaders wider and chased hard. GRAND PROPOSAL (3rd) sustained a good run and HIGH OPINION (3rd) stormed down the outside.

The Interest

Kathy O'Hara take a bow, she guided this little country battler home for a win at good odds. A dream run in the box seat and a perfectly timed dash to the lead made the difference. ECCITARE (good late), GRAND PROPOSAL (stuck wide) and HIGH OPINION (came very wide) were all the runs of the race though. You'd be surprised if one of them didn't win if the race was run again. Follow ECCITARE, GRAND PROPOSAL and HIGH OPINION.

In The Running

QUARTZITE showed early speed to take over from DIAMOND OASIS. INZ'N'OUT was in the box seat with HOWMUCHDOYOULOVEME on his outside.

The Result

INZ'N'OUT (3rd) was moved up under pressure with HOWMUCHDOYOULOVEME (1st), the latter getting through the wet better late. ZIN ZAN EDDIE (2nd) ran on late from the back.

The Interest

Two of the three classier sprinters had good wet track stats and they took out 1st and 3rd here. INZ'N'OUT was brave, but just couldn't sustain after being under pressure earlier than the winner. HOWMUCHDOYOULOVEME did the job fresh, not for the first time, and ZIN ZAN EDDIE is clearly going very well. Follow him up to 1200m to 1400m next time. Follow ZIN ZAN EDDIE.

In The Running

HARRY HOTSPUR strode forward to lead from SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD. BEST CASE was in the box seat. The leader got most of the horses chasing mid-race.

The Result

BRING LUCK (1st) chased best from the back and drew clear late, beating home SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD (2nd) and VILLANOVA (3rd), who were well beaten.

The Interest

The young 4yo by Sebring (same sire as Criterion) relished the mud and the low weight. Overall form-lines weren't up to the others, but that didn't matter when the rain came and the strong pressure was on up-front. SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD was brave on the pace second-up. As for HARRY HOTSPUR, he was way out of his depth up to 1900m, the aggressive riding style really bringing him undone. BEST CASE was plain in midfield. Follow SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD.

In The Running

TYPHOON JOLIE jumped best and I AM ZELADY as slowish, but the latter pushed forward and set up a big lead. TYPHOON JOLIE took up the trail. ROLE MODEL had no cover chasing and ALART was stuck wide in midfield.

The Result

I AM ZELADY (4th) started to tire and the pack came. TYPHOON JOLIE (1st) sustaining her chase to beat home ROLE MODEL, who did the same. FIFTYSHADESOFGREY (3rd) made late ground down the outside.

The Interest

A great win by TYPHOON JOLIE first-up, she was given the perfect trail by Clipperton and sustained her run best. You could argue ROLE MODEL's run was every bit as good though with no cover all the way. As for I AM ZELADY, she misses the start 50% of the time so you've always got to factor that in. A very hard horse to follow! Follow ROLE MODEL. Forgive ALART.

In The Running

HEART TESTA jumped well with FRESPANOL. MIGHTY LUCKY was a bit slow back in the pack. There wasn't much pressure up-front.

The Result

HEART TESTA (4th) gave a kick in the lead, but FRESPANOL (2nd) chased him down. ZANBAGH (1st) surged from the back and got up. MIGHTY LUCKY (3rd) fought on for a place.

The Interest

She's back! ZANBAGH is a very classy mare at her best, competing with Group One fillies in her 3yo year. It was the win of a horse that is ready to fire again, wet track or not. Well done to new trainer John Thompson. FRESPANOL was very brave and it was just a bit too wet for HEART TESTA and MIGHTY LUCKY, who could have been much closer on GOOD or SOFT ground. Follow ZANBAGH.
