Doomben Track Guide

Track Circumference - 1715m     Length of Home Straight - 350m

The Doomben race course is quite a tight racing circuit with a long home turn. There are chutes at the 2200m, 1650m and 1350m marks, the latter being the start for the annual feature race, the Doomben 10,000. This famous Group One sprint was first run (as a handicap) in 1933, and then become a weight-for-age race in 1997. Previous winners include the great Manikato and Takeover Target.

Track bias can prevail, often favouring horses near the lead, or sometimes nearer the rails. A horse that can keep balanced around the home turn and produce a strong sprint once in the straight will often be favoured.
