Top 5 Championship Insights

#1 The Power of Winx

Queen Elizabeth Stakes

In a horse race the speed is often high early, then slows down in the middle before they set off on their sprint finish 400m to 500m from home.

Most gallopers then maintain that run for 300m to 400m and really tire late.

The power of WINX is that she just keeps motoring to the line, no matter how early Hugh Bowman takes off on her!

#2 No More Mud

Coolmore Legacy

Finally we are back to a drier racing surface for Day 2 of The Championships.

It will bring some classy types back into the mix, including VILLAMI in the Percy Sykes Stakes (Race 4), SCARLET DREAM in the Australian Oaks (Race 6), RONDINELLA in the Sydney Cup (Race 8) and both UNFORGOTTEN and NAKEETA JANE in the Coolmore Legacy (Race 9).

#3 How Happy is Clapper?

Queen Elizabeth Stakes

The brave galloper HAPPY CLAPPER will be a popular choice for many punters today behind WINX, but there are some risks, both with him and the grand campaigner HARTNELL.

They are both horses that can dip in form late in the campaigns. Check the mounting yard and market to see if all is OK.

#4 Ocean of Talent

South Pacific Classic

There are big races all day, but you'll have to look hard to find a more exciting race than the South Pacific Classic for the three-year-olds.

FASIKA, GREEN AEON and MILLARD REACTION all come off two dominant wins each and remain unbeaten.

GREEN AEON ran faster time than FASIKA and he has a better racing style than MILLARD REACTION. He could be the one in a seriously good race.

#5 Randwick Types

Sapphire Stakes

We've been at Randwick for a couple of weeks now so most horses have been on the Randwick surface.

Horses that have never been on it before and should love it include ARCHEDEMUS (Race 3), RONDINELLA (Race 8) and ELLICAZOOM (Race 10). Watch out for SAVATIANO in the last race too, the last time she was at Randwick over 1,200 metres she won by five lengths!
