A small and interesting field for the Benchmark 95 Power Access Handicap with six of the 10 runners first-up and only two of the 10 placed at their most recent outing. The runners who do bring some form top betting with Rugged Cross running consistently in slightly easier Melbourne company and Earnest Ernest resuming from a let-up after a strong last start win. The small class-rise these two face won't be helped by a likely lack of speed in the race with the higher rated Tromso and Single likely to control the tempo along with the enigmatic Calvo. Of these, Tromso shapes up as a strong contender with a Listed win on his resume and decent first-up statistics. The often disappointing Said Com is right in the market, and while he has looked good in the mounting yard this preparation, his performance last start continued to leave questions on his will to win. Scream Machine could be running on, however he hasn't shown much evidence of his rapid sprint in previous first-up assignments, and import Sir John Hawkwood adds interest at only his second Australian start. He finds a winnable race off some solid trial form. A tricky and tactical affair. Expect some moves in the bookies ring and on the track.
