A real puzzle - Hooked won well despite not handling 'The Valley' in a track gallop
There is no larger contrast in Australian race-tracks than Moonee Valley and Flemington. Only seven days ago, all the talk was about a galloper's ability to handle the tight turning strath ayr surface of Mooney Valley. Lankan Rupee won despite his lack of affinity with the course, while others, such as Chivalry, performed below their best.
The racing now moves to the wide open expanses of Flemington, where every galloper should get their chance.
Saturday's Derby Day meeting at Flemington will again ignite spirit in all punters around the country, including those that may have decided to sit out last week at the Valley. Not only is it the greatest day of racing in Australia, it is also regarded as one of the best betting days on the calendar.
Classy gallopers such as Criterion, Side Glance and Happy Trails line up in the Mackinnon, while Hampton Court will be trying to find his rhythm away from the home-base of Royal Randwick.
Finding horses that can sustain their run down the long 450 metre straight is the aim and the Race Guide will include all the profiles and information needed to find they key chances.
