Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 07 December 2019
The track conditions caught a few by surprise at Rosehill Gardens today.
With the recent hot weather in Sydney most punters thought it would be a rock-hard summer track, but plenty of irrigation and a cool southerly change made sure the Rosehill turf had plenty of give in it and certain gallopers prospered.
Perhaps the most surprising of all the winners was ADANA (picture), who had been battling away at Canterbury Park before stepping up to Saturday grade and surging home best late under the riding of Hugh Bowman. Favourite STATUESQELY had tried to sprint from the 500-metre mark, a tactic that failed miserably and she plodded home in last place eight lengths behind the winner.
Other winners included GUISE (Race 4 over 2,000 metres), who had never won on a dry track before, and THE PARTY GIRL (Race 8), who is a type that usually saves her best for longer distances than 1,200 metres and softer ground.
In another shock result, on-pace grinder SILENT EXPLORER was only just edged out by BOBBY DEE over 1,500 metres in Race 5, both horses at huge odds in the small field.
The only favourite to win was GUNGA DIN (Race 3 - TAB Highway) in what was a rapidly run 1,800 metres.
A full review will be on-line Monday 5pm.
