Vet Notes

Landuar (Race 1) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr B Thompson was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Landuar racing again.
Shards (Race 2) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be coughing. Stable representative Mr B Jackson-Stopps was advised a veterinary clearance would be required, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to Shards performing in a race or barrier trial.
Spirit And Fire (Race 3) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed a wound to the corner of the near-side mouth. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes stated it was now his intention to consider the immediate race plans for Spirit And Fire and will report back to the Stewards on the decision.
On The Spot (Race 3) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt had been galloped on to the off-hind heel.
Legerity (Race 3) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt had been galloped on to the near-hind leg.
Tango Rain (Race 3) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr G Ryan was asked to provide a veterinary clearance for Tango Rain prior to it racing again and to report back on the colt's condition subsequent to the race.
Bacarella (Race 4) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr G Moore was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Bacarella racing again.
Plenty To Like (Race 4) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly had been galloped on to the near-side hock.
Japonisme (Race 7) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed soreness on palpation over the back region. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again.
Burradoo (Race 9) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed speedy cut to off-hind coronet and pastern.

Penalties & Fines

Mr P Murray, trainer of Darci's Affair was fined the sum of $100 for the late notification (LR36A).
R Hutchings, rider of On The Spot pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 50m he allowed his mount to shifted in when not clear of Legerity, which was checked and lost its running when taken in onto Tango Rain. R Hutchings' licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 25 September 2016 and to expire on Friday, 7 October 2016, on which day he may ride.
H Bowman, rider of Guard Of Honour pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used the whip six times prior to the 100m (one additional). H Bowman was fined $600.

Summary of Races

RACE 1: TAB Highway Handicap 1000m

Real Warrior – at approximately 12 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of this event trainer Mr J Sylvester reported to the Official Veterinarian that the mare had aggravated a healing abrasion to the near-side hip. Real Warrior was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer after arriving behind the barriers and passed fit to start. Mr Sylvester was spoken to and advised of his obligation under the rules to report any condition which may affect the performance of a horse as soon as practicable. Over the final 100m was checked and unable to be ridden out to the finish when held up on the heels initially of Enjoyable and then Vixen Lass. In this incident Pacific Queen, which was tiring, was inconvenienced.
Vixen Lass – lost its near-fore plate in the parade. The filly was replated behind the barriers, examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. This resulted in the race being delayed by some three minutes.
You're Kidding Me – knuckled on jumping.
Torio's Delight – slow to begin.
Leami Astray – slow to begin.
Pacific Queen – slow to begin. Over the concluding stages was hampered.
Canny Palance – which had been slow to begin, was crowded shortly after when Landuar jumped awkwardly and shifted in.
Nights On Fire – held up for a short distance rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Was then shifted in to secure clear running after being disappointed for a run to the outside of Leami Astray near the 350m.
Moss My Name – laid in under pressure in the straight.
Enjoyable – near the 100m was hampered when Landuar, which was inclined to lay in, shifted in.
Kenny Succeed – for the major part of the race travelled wide without cover.
Landuar – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr B Thompson was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Landuar racing again.

RACE 2: #Theraces Handicap 1600m

Darci's Affair – Stewards permitted the withdrawal of the gelding at 7.48am. Trainer Mr P Murray was fined the sum of $100 for the late notification (LR36A).
Rhodin Drive – slow to begin (2L).
Magicus – approaching the first turn the gelding, which was overracing, improved onto the heels of Wings, was steadied and shifted out. Magicus then raced wide without cover for the remainder of the event.
Thunder Down Under – overraced in the middle stages.
Shards – near the 250m the gelding, which was giving ground, was tightened for room by Magicus, which was taken out by Wings (App. A Adkins), which shifted out under pressure. App. Adkins was advised to exercise more care. Rider J McDonald could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding and agreed that it raced most disappointingly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be coughing. Stable representative Mr B Jackson-Stopps was advised a veterinary clearance would be required, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to Shards performing in a race or barrier trial.
Signposted – laid in under pressure over the final 150m.
Oh So Splendido – when questioned regarding the gelding being ridden in a forward position today, rider T Berry stated he had anticipated taking up a position behind the speed with cover, however from his wide barrier, when his mount commenced well he elected to ride forward rather than being caught wide throughout the early and middle stages.

RACE 3: Schweppes Heritage Stakes (Listed) 1100m

Jericho – slow to begin. Rider J McDonald stated that his mount failed to concentrate throughout the event and was reluctant to take runs when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden stated it was now his intention to recommend to the connections that Jericho be gelded and will report back to the Stewards on the future race plans for the colt.
Mount Panorama – which was slow to begin was crowded shortly after by Generalissimo, which also had been slow to begin, and was taken in by Legerity, which began awkwardly.
Spirit And Fire – overraced in the early and middle stages and then making the turn near the 600m ran out and carried Hair Trigger wider. A short distance later Spirit And Fire continued to hang out, raced ungenerously and made contact with Hair Trigger, further hampering that runner carrying it wider. Rider T Berry stated after being a little slow to begin, his mount then raced fiercely throughout the early and middle stages and hung badly. He added as a consequence near the 600m he was obliged to check away from the heels of Guard Of Honour. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a wound to the corner of the near-side mouth. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes stated it was now his intention to consider the immediate race plans for Spirit And Fire and will report back to the Stewards on the decision.
On The Spot – passing the 200m had to be shifted to the inside of Hair Trigger to continue into clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt had been galloped on to the off-hind heel.
Echo Effect – laid in towards the heels of Legerity near the 100m and was steadied. At the winning post made contact with Legerity, which shifted out. Following the race it was noticed that Echo Effect had lost its near-fore plate in running.
Legerity – R Hutchings (On The Spot) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 50m he allowed his mount to shifted in when not clear of Legerity, which was checked and lost its running when taken in onto Tango Rain. Tango Rain – rider K McEvoy stated that, although the colt was racing with blinkers off today, it was still inclined to race too keenly in the lead and consequently was left without a finishing effort over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr G Ryan was asked to provide a veterinary clearance for Tango Rain prior to it racing again and to report back on the colt's condition subsequent to the race.
Guard Of Honour – H Bowman, rider of the winner, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used the whip six times prior to the 100m (one additional). H Bowman was fined $600.

RACE 4: Tea Rose Stakes (Group 2) 1400m

Global Glamour – slow to begin. Overraced and got its head up in the early and middle stages.
Chipanda – began awkwardly. In the early part of the straight made contact with A Mist Opportunity on a number of occasions as it endeavoured to obtain clear running to the outside of Foxplay.
Awoke – slow to begin. Could not be tested over the final 75m when disappointed for a run between Skylight Glow and Quick Feet.
Bacarella – slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Rider T Clark stated that the filly was unsuited by the slow early tempo when the race developed into a sprint home and, although he did not obtain completely clear ground in the straight, he felt his mount was at its top. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr G Moore was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Bacarella racing again.
Foxplay – when questioned regarding his riding rounding the home turn and particularly as to whether there was an opportunity to shift to the outside of Quick Feet to establish clear ground, rider H Bowman stated that his mount was travelling comfortably leading up to and passing the 600m and he had initially contemplated shifting to the outside of Quick Feet. He added that leaving the 500m the tempo increased, which resulted in Foxplay being left flatfooted, which required him then to start riding his mount forward and also allowed Sezanne to improve to his outside. H Bowman further stated on straightening when Quick Feet shifted out slightly he was then placed in restricted room for some distance, whereby he bumped with Sezanne on a number of occasions in order to secure clear running. He said that near the 300m Foxplay was again awkwardly placed on the heels of Quick Feet after making contact with Sezanne and it was not until near the 250m his mount was able to secure clear ground.
Plenty To Like – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly had been galloped on to the near-side hock.

RACE 5: Ascend Sales Trophies Hill Stakes (Group 2) 2000m

RACE 6: Colgate Optic White Stakes (Registered as George Main Stakes) (Group 1) 1600m

Winx – following trainer Mr C Waller reporting to Stewards this morning the mare had sustained a minor abrasion to the near-side knee, Winx was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer on arrival on course and passed fit to start. Rider H Bowman stated that prior to the start being effected Winx turned its head momentarily to the left, which resulted in it jumping awkwardly and losing ground at the start.

RACE 7: Bowermans Office Furniture Shorts (Group 2) 1100m

Howmuchdoyouloveme – acting on intelligence received, the Stewards instructed Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian Dr C Suann to conduct an inspection of the jugular vein on the off-side neck of Howmuchdoyouloveme to ascertain as to whether the gelding had been injected in breach of the rules. Dr Suann reported to the Stewards that his inspection of the gelding revealed a small discreet palpably soft swelling in the off-side jugular groove, which was indicative of the gelding being injected in contravention of the rules. This finding was not inconsistent with the intelligence received by the Stewards. Mr Karakatsanis was interviewed, whereby he provided assurances that no injection had been administered to the gelding close to the race. After taking further evidence from Mr Karakatsanis and Racing NSW Stipendiary Steward Mr T McDonald, who conducted a routine inspection of Howmuchdoyouloveme at 2.40pm on Friday, 16 September 2016, whereby he reported there was no swelling that he identified in the off-side neck of the gelding, the Stewards could not be satisfied that Howmuchdoyouloveme was not treated in contravention of the rules and therefore ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 3.43pm. Stewards directed that samples be taken from the gelding prior to leaving the course today. Members of the Surveillance and Intelligence Unit were dispatched in the company of Mr Karakatsanis to his Warwick Farm stables to conduct a full inspection of his premises to ascertain if there were any substances present at the stables in respect of AR80E. A number of substances were seized from Mr Karakatsanis' stable complex and residence during the inspection and these items will be forwarded to the 5 20160917RAND Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory for the purpose of analysing to ascertain if there any prohibited substances present. The matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Howmuchdoyouloveme be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 3.43pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1st) Takedown less 1ȼ win and 3ȼ place 2nd) Ball Of Muscle less 3ȼ place 3rd) Kaepernick less 3ȼ place
Kaepernick – slow to begin.
Boss Lane – overraced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
English – raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
Japonisme – a post-race veterinary examination revealed soreness on palpation over the back region. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again.

RACE 8: Bill Ritchie Handicap (Group 3) 1400m

Tsaritsa – slow to begin.
Mighty Lucky – slow to begin. Held up for clear running until near the 200m.
Lady Le Fay – slow to begin.
Testashadow – began awkwardly.
Torgernsen – overraced in the early stages. Laid out in the straight.
Handfast – approaching the winning post was briefly tightened for room between Sons Of John and Federal, both of which shifted slight ground, and as consequence could not be tested.
Federal – shifted out under pressure inside the final 100m.
Zin Zan Eddie – throughout the race travelled wide without cover.
Sadler's Lake – rider J McDonald stated the only excuse he could offer for today's poor performance was the gelding was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight and was reluctant to stretch out when placed under pressure, but was still fluent in its action. A postrace veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 9: Sensis Dash 1200m

Maraam – the outside portion of the gate occupied by the mare rebounded after the start had been effected, resulting in it being hampered and, after being buffeted between Burradoo and Man Of Choice, Maram lost ground.
Torpenhow – began awkwardly and lost ground.
Denpurr – slow to begin.
No Doubt – held up in the early part of the straight. Near the 200m was inconvenienced when crowded by Burradoo (App N Heywood), which shifted in. App. Heywood was advised to exercise more care.
Burradoo – a post-race veterinary examination revealed speedy cut to off-hind coronet and pastern.
Man Of Choice – when questioned regarding his riding rounding the home turn, H Bowman stated, after following Sonic Swish in the run, he was reluctant to improve close to the back of that runner when Maraam, which was positioned to his inside, was inclined to shift ground. He added for this reason he elected to hold his position to the inside of Wonderbolt with the view that that runner would improve slightly, which would afford him an opportunity to obtain a position behind it. H Bowman added that when Wonderbolt did not improve its position he was held up to the inside of its heels and unable to improve and consequently was then badly held up until approaching the 100m. In not taking any action against H Bowman, the Stewards were satisfied that his decision in the circumstances was not unreasonable, however he was advised in the opinion of the Stewards the preferred option making the home turn would have been to come back and make more effort to obtain a position on the back of Wonderbolt near the 500m.
Brigadoon Rise – when questioned regarding his riding of the mare from the 600m, rider K McEvoy stated he had anticipated taking up a position slightly forward of midfield, but when Wonderbolt held its position to his inside in the early stages of the race he was obliged to settle further back than he had anticipated in order to obtain cover. He added that he formed the view that Wonderbolt was going to obtain a position three deep and he then elected to take up a position on the back of Man Of Choice as he was concerned had he continued to race to the outside of Man Of Choice he would have also been taken wider making the home turn. K McEvoy further stated, after taking up a position behind Man Of Choice, he then elected to shift to the inside approaching the home turn so as to save ground and also improve his position in the early part of the straight. He said, after following Zoumagic rounding the home turn, he was then held up for clear running and unable to be tested at any stage in the straight. After considering all the evidence, the Stewards advised K McEvoy that he had erred in going back to the inside of Man Of Choice near the 600m when it was open to him to maintain a position either to the outside or on the back of Man Of Choice, which would have provided him with a better opportunity to obtain clear running in the straight.
