A brave galloper - Admire Rakti wins the Caulfield Cup

The Melbourne Cup today provided a great spectacle, as it always does. But the big event was soured when the news came after the race that Admire Rakti passed away on the way back to the stalls.

A great racehorse has fight, determination and a will to win. Admire Rakti had all these qualities and unfortunately they may have been his undoing. After a very tough run on the pace chasing My Ambivalent, it seems he simply had no more to give.

The incident is nothing more than unfortunate. A hazard of such a hard competitive sport.

The Caulfield Cup win will always be remembered. All we can do is respect the career of a great horse.

A classy horse departs - Admire Rakti heads back to scale after the Caulfield Cup
