App. K Jennings, rider of Niccolance pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Invincibella, resulting in Invincibella being checked and losing its running. App. Jenning's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday, 17 October 2016, and to expire on Thursday, 27 October 2016, on which day he may ride.
App. B McDougall, rider of Signposted pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1200m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Darci's Affair, resulting in Darci's Affair being checked and losing its running. App. McDougall's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Saturday, 22 October 2016, after the expiration of the suspension incurred at Gosford on 6 October 2016, and to expire on Thursday, 10 November 2016, on which day he may ride.

Summary of Races

RACE 1: Capital Bluestone Kirkham Plate 1000m

Lightz – reared as the start was effected and lost ground (2L). Near the 650m when racing tight inside Showtime became unbalanced, shifted out and made contact with the hindquarter of Showtime. Near the 200m Lightz, which was inclined to lay out, was steadied when disappointed for a run to the inside of Luiza, which shifted in slightly. Lightz was then directed to the outside of Luiza to continue into clear running.
Goodfella – began awkwardly and then hung out throughout, made the home turn awkwardly and proved difficult to ride.
Severence – began awkwardly, shifted out and hampered Zatar.
Shakhan – began awkwardly.
Luiza – shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post.
China Gale – a post-race veterinary examination of the colt, which weakened after racing outside the leader, did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 2: Royal Ranwick Fashions on the Field Handicap 1400m

Reach For Heaven – began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn. Approaching the winning post hung in, which resulted in rider B Avdulla having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Crown Him – blundered on jumping.
Octavian Augustus – began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted in and made contact with Power Law. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Invincibella – App. K Jennings (Niccolance) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Invincibella, resulting in Invincibella being checked and losing its running. App. Jenning's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday, 17 October 2016, and to expire on Thursday, 27 October 2016, on which day he may ride. For some distance after this Invincibella overraced. Rider T Berry stated that Invincibella, races best when able to have comfortable racing room and, after racing tight making the home turn and in the early part of the straight, when racing to the inside of Reach For Heaven his mount was then reluctant to stretch out when placed under pressure. He added in his view the filly was disadvantaged by the moderate early tempo and is more effective when able to run on on the back of a strong early speed. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Comin' Through – when questioned regarding his riding, J Collett stated that his instructions were to attempt to take up a position midfield and to attempt to be more forward of one or two runners if possible. He added after runners to his inside all commenced well, he was obliged to take hold of his mount and settle at the rear of the field so as to avoid being caught wide. J Collett further stated he followed Power Law in the early stages, which had Octavian Augustus positioned to its outside, whereby his mount settled comfortably in the run. He said when Octavian Augustus improved its position after the 900m, his mount then lost touch with that runner. J Collett added that he was then reluctant to improve to re-establish his position behind Octavian Augustus as he was of the view that Power Law, which was racing to his inside, would shift off after the 600m, forcing his mount to race wide without cover. J Collett stated as a consequence he elected to remain racing back behind Power Law and leaving the 500m shifted back to that runner's inside, whereby he then placed his mount under pressure to commence to improve into the event. He added once fully balanced in the straight, Comin' Through was then able to finish the race off well, although was inclined to lay in over the final 100m when being ridden out. J Collett agreed with the Stewards that he had made an error of judgement in not making more effort to maintain a position closer to Octavian Augustus near the 900m, which would have provided him with the opportunity of preventing Power Law shifting out near 600m and taking his mount wider on the home turn. In taking no direct action against J Collett, the Stewards found that having regard to the beaten margin of a length and three-quarters from Niccolance, in the circumstances his error was not blameworthy in that the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that his actions prevented his mount winning the event.

RACE 3: Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap 1600m

Vassal – crowded on jumping between Hipparchus and Bodega Negra, which was taken in by Encosta Line.
Hipparchus – after being slow to begin was buffeted between Vassal and Signposted which, after beginning awkwardly, was then taken out by Darci's Affair. Rider R Hutchings stated that after improving along the fence making the home turn, when placed under pressure in the straight his mount was inclined to lay out and as a consequence he had some difficulty in endeavouring to establish a run that was available to him to the inside of Signposted. He added that near the 200m, as he endeavoured to shift to the inside of Signposted, that runner shifted in, resulting in Hipparchus having to be steadied when disappointed for that run. R Hutchings further stated he then shifted to the outside of Signposted to obtain clear running, whereby his mount then took some time to balance up before finishing the race off reasonably well.
Darci's Affair – on jumping bumped with Signposted and became unbalanced. App. B McDougall pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1200m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Darci's Affair, resulting in Darci's Affair being checked and losing its running. App. McDougall's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Saturday, 22 October 2016, after the expiration of the suspension incurred at Gosford on 6 October 2016, and to expire on Thursday, 10 November 2016, on which day he may ride. For some distance after this Darci's Affair overraced. Rounding the home turn Balmain Boy and Darci's Affair made contact as Darci's Affair shifted out to improve.
Signposted – on jumping bumped with Darci's Affair and became unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Bodega Negra – Near the 1200m when inclined to overrace had to be steadied from the heels of Balmain Boy (T Clark), which shifted in when not quite clear. T Clark was advised to ensure he is two lengths clear when shifting ground. Bodega Negra then continued to race keenly in the middle stages. Balmain Boy – bumped rounding the home turn.

RACE 4: TAB Highway Handicap 1600m

Croix De Vie – a veterinary examination of the gelding, which was found to have a lesion on the near-hind cannon, passed it fit to start. Slow to begin. Near the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Me Mongo.
Mysticism – shortly after the start crowded for room between Gambled and Destined To Win, both of which shifted ground.
Flitero - shortly after the start crowded for room between Gambled and Destined To Win, both of which shifted ground. Near the 1500m had to be steadied when crowded momentarily by Mysticism, which shifted in slightly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Me Mongo – overraced in the early stages. Rounding the home turn had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Mysticism when taken out slightly by Flitero (G Schofield). G Schofield was advised to exercise more care.
Sadhika – rounding the first turn improved onto the heels of Valatia and was checked when overracing. Rider C Reith stated the only explanation he could offer for today's disappointing performance was the mare had raced flat in the run and consequently failed to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr G Bennett advised Sadhika would now be spelled.
Valatia – raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
Grand Rouge – steadied when crowded near the 50m when Distinctive Look (App. K Jennings) shifted out. App. Jennings was reprimanded.
Gambled – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Not For Export – rider App. A Adkins stated the only explanation he could offer for todays run was that the gelding raced flatly, which he attributed to its tough effort last start when it raced wide over the final 700m. He added in his view Not For Export may not have been suited by the firmer track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5: Adina Apartment Hotels Handicap 2000m

Cramming – overraced in the early stages. Zero To Ten – overraced in the early and middle stages.
Oh So Splendido – overraced in the early and middle stages, which resulted in rider C Reith shifting out near the 1200m to go forward.
Low Places – near the 1200m taken wide by Oh So Splendido.
Murphy's Delight – rounding the home turn improved onto the heels of Olympic Academy and was checked.
Olympic Academy – briefly held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
Broadside – laid in under pressure in the straight.
My Giuliano – rider T Berry confirmed his instructions were to attempt to be more forward, however after beginning fairly he endeavoured to ride forward in the early stages to cross Cramming, which was positioned to his inside, but when Cramming held its position and he was left wide without cover he was obliged to restrain his mount and settle at the tail of the field. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 6: #Theraces October Handicap 1400m

Burning Passion – knuckled on jumping. Inclined to lay out in the straight.
Handfast – began awkwardly.
God's In Him – slow to begin. Was inclined to lay in over the final 200m. Rider T Berry stated that he was under no specific instructions, but anticipated taking up a position on the pace. He added that his mount commenced awkwardly and despite his efforts in the early stages did not respond to his riding and consequently settled towards the rear of the field. T Berry further stated when positioned to the inside of Man Of Choice in the early stages his mount was not travelling well with him and for this reason he elected to come back and follow Man Of Choice in an attempt to encourage his mount to travel, however after obtaining this position, God's In Him raced with little interest and despite being placed under pressure in the early part of the straight was most disappointing in its failure to run on. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes stated God's In Him had pleased the stable leading into the race and in particular it had impressed in a trial on 26 September 2016 at Rosehill. He said the only excuse he could offer was that the gelding may not have appreciated today's firmer surface. Mr Hawkes undertook to report back to the Stewards on the condition of God's In Him subsequent to the race.
Falkenberg – slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Man Of Choice – rider K O'Hara stated that with her mount second up today, in her opinion it was unsuited by the strong tempo and as a result finished the race off one-paced and found it difficult to make ground. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 7: Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes (Group 1) 2000m

Retaliation – when questioned regarding the colt settling further back in the field today, rider T Clark stated his mount jumped awkwardly and when there was pressure from runners to his inside shifting out, he elected to come back and consequently settled a little further back than he had anticipated. Hand It In – after being slow to begin was checked shortly after the start when crowded for room between Yankee Rose and High Mist, which itself was crowded by Tumultuous, which was taken out by Prized Icon, which ran out despite the efforts of its rider. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Hung out throughout.
Tumultuous – near the 1900m was checked and made contact with Yankee Rose, which was bumped and became unbalanced when Prized Icon, which was inclined to lay out, was taken out by Veladero (R Hutchings). R Hutchings was advised to exercise more care.
Khartoum – rider J Parr stated when making the first turn after being crossed by Swear, his mount did not negotiate the first turn properly as he endeavoured to restrain to take up a position with cover and consequently lost ground at that point.
Prized Icon – held up in the early part of the straight. Laid out in the straight. Rider G Schofield was reprimanded for using the whip on three consecutive occasions prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account the totality of his whip use in the straight.
Swear – D Yendall, rider of Yankee Rose, and T Berry, rider of Swear, were cautioned against the practice of making contact with another rider prior to weighing in (AR144).

RACE 8: TAB Angst Stakes (Group 3) 1600m

Zanbagh – for the majority of the event raced wide without cover. Approaching the 250m Diamond Made, which was inclined to lay out, shifted out, resulting in You Are Golden and Unequivocal being taken out into the running of Zanbagh, which was hampered.
Tears In Heaven – raced keenly in the early stages.
Extensible – raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned in respect to the mare settling back in the field, C Reith stated his only instruction was to endeavour to obtain cover as the mare can overrace when left without cover. He added from his wide draw, when he observed a trailing position was available on the back of Zanbagh in the early stages, he immediately directed his mount to be racing on the back of that runner so as to comply with his instructions and as a consequence settled somewhat further back than anticipated. C Reith further stated that when placed under pressure in the early part of the straight Extensible initially commenced to make ground, but its momentum was halted near the 300m when Zanbagh was taken wider and impeded his running for a number of strides. He added that once balanced inside the 250m his mount finished off strongly.
Dixie Blossoms – when questioned regarding the mare settling back in the field as compared to its last start at Rosehill in the Golden Pendant on 24 September 2016 where it raced outside the leader, rider T Clark stated, as he explained on 24 September, today he was again issued with no specific instructions other than to ride the mare where comfortable. He added today his mount jumped fairly and, after making contact with Zanbagh, he then elected not to push forward, bearing in mind the genuine early pace of the event. T Clark further stated in his view over longer distances Dixie Blossoms is best suited when being able to be ridden patiently and he will endeavour to ride the mare accordingly at any future starts.

RACE 9: Sensis Dash 1200m

Dixie Chick – slow to begin and was then bumped by Rock Forthe Ladies. Rider T Berry stated, after following Rock For the Ladies in the straight, he had anticipated Top Me Up shifting out, which would have presented him clear running. He added that when Top Me Up did not shift out, he then elected to come back to the inside in an endeavour to obtain clear running between Lunar Rise and Suspense, however when Lunar Rise shifted in slightly he was again not able to secure clear running and consequently was unable to fully test his mount in the straight.
Denpurr – began awkwardly.
Taillevent – raced keenly in the early and middle stages and, after being crossed by Suspense near the 900m, was steadied and shifted out. As a result Lunar Rise was hampered and carried wider and consequently raced wide for the remainder of the race without cover. Held up in the early part of the straight.
Lunar Rise – hampered near the 900m and carried wider.
Top Me Up – laid out rounding the home turn and in the straight. Rider C Reith stated his intention was to be more forward, but his mount jumped awkwardly and consequently settled further back. Brigadoon Rise – rider J Collett could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden was asked to report back on the condition of Brigadoon Rise subsequent to the event.
