Vet Notes

  • Lightz  (Race 1) – shifted out at the start and made contact with Darhad. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Co-trainer Mr G Lee advised Lightz will be spelled.
  • Il Riccio (Race 2) – at approximately 12.15pm Mr T Gollan reported to Stewards that the gelding had become fractious in its race day tie-up stall, had bumped its head near the poll and as a consequence had sustained a minor abrasion. Il Riccio was examined by the Official Veterinarian and, after consultation with trainer Mr T Gollan and the gelding's attendant, who had witnessed the incident, so as to ascertain the force and nature of the occurrence, Il Riccio was passed fit to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood to be present in the near-side nostril. A subsequent endoscopic examination performed two hours after the event revealed a small trickle of blood in the near-side sinus region. Mr Gollan was asked to provide a veterinary clearance prior to Il Riccio racing again.
  • Dreamforce (Race 3)  – was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 12.27pm when the horse was found to be lame in the near-foreleg. Stable representative Mr R King was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Dreamforce racing again.
  • Nassak (Race 3) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be mildly lame in the off-foreleg. Mr N Dilmi, representing trainer Mr J Cummings, advised that Nassak had not displayed any lameness leading into today's race. Mr Dilmi was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare racing again.
  • Asinara (Race 5) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed mare to be displaying a mild case of the thumps. The post race condition of Asinara was brought to the attention of the stable representative Mr D Beadman. The Stewards will follow the post-race progress of the mare in the days subsequent.
  • Dixie Chick (Race 8) - a post-race veterinary examination revealed mare had aggravated a speedy cut to the off-hind pastern.
  • Rillito (Race 8) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare bled from both nostrils and had sustained a puncture wound to outside the off-fore cannon. Stable representative Mr D Beadman was advised the mare would incur the mandatory three month ban under AR53A.
  • Chrysolaus (Race 9) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding, which was fractious in the barrier, sustained an abrasion to the nasal bone area and had blood in the near-side nostril. Trainer Mr J Sylvester was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Chrysolaus racing again.

Penalties & Fines

  • R Hutchings, replaced Rider of Ace High was fined the sum of $400 under AR120(b).
  • B El-Issa, rider of  Loyal Toast pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 1800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Lonely Orphan, resulting in Lonely Orphan losing its running and being checked, then being taken in onto Flitero, resulting in Flitero being crowded for room. B El-Issa's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 6 November 2016 and to expire on Thursday, 17 November 2016, on which day he may ride.
  • Mr D Pfieffer, trainer of Dixie Chick was fined the sum of $200 under LR35 for the late notification of B El-Issa as the rider of the mare.  

Summary of Races

RACE 1: Lidoran Group Pierro Plate 1100m

  • Ace High – as R Hutchings was overweight, Stewards permitted J Byrne to be substituted as the rider of the colt. R Hutchings was fined the sum of $400 under AR120(b). Overraced and laid out throughout and near the 500m, when being eased away from the heels of Mahal, ran out abruptly and lost ground.
  • Lightz – shifted out at the start and made contact with Darhad. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Co-trainer Mr G Lee advised Lightz will be spelled.
  • Champagne Cuddles – began awkwardly. Held up in the early part of the straight and for some distance approaching the 200m raced in restricted room inside Lightz.
  • Epidemic – shortly after the start shifted in and made contact with the hindquarter of Ace High. Raced greenly in the early stages. Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight and near the 350m was steadied when disappointed for a run between Darhad and Ibanez. Then did not obtain clear running until near the 250m. For some distance approaching and passing the 100m was awkwardly placed on the heels of Ace High when Darhad shifted out and was held up.
  • Ibanez – inside the 200m had to be checked when crowded between Ace High (J Byrne) , which shifted in slightly, and Epidemic (B Avdulla), which shifted out away from Darhad when that runner, which was racing in advance of Epidemic, shifted out. J Byrne was advised to exercise more care. B Avdulla was reprimanded and advised he must make more effort to prevent his mount from shifting out in similar circumstances so as to avoid contributing to interference.
  • Mahal – co-trainer Mr G Lee advised the colt will be spelled.

RACE 2: West Tradies CFMEU Handicap 1200m

  • Il Riccio – at approximately 12.15pm Mr T Gollan reported to Stewards that the gelding had become fractious in its race day tie-up stall, had bumped its head near the poll and as a consequence had sustained a minor abrasion. Il Riccio was examined by the Official Veterinarian and, after consultation with trainer Mr T Gollan and the gelding's attendant, who had witnessed the incident, so as to ascertain the force and nature of the occurrence, Il Riccio was passed fit to start. On jumping shifted out and made contact with Fox Tales. Then shifted back in and made contact with Eckstein. When questioned regarding the performance of Il Riccio, rider J Byrne stated his mount travelled comfortably in the lead and on straightening he shifted to a position one off to encourage his mount to improve into the event, however once placed under pressure, the gelding failed to respond to his riding and performed below expectations. Trainer Mr T Gollan stated he was satisfied with the decision to allow Il Riccio to start after consultation with the gelding's attendant and the Official Veterinarian. Mr Gollan stated that Il Riccio had pleased him since its arrival in Sydney and leading up to today's race had not exhibited any signs of respiratory issues. A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood to be present in the near-side nostril. A subsequent endoscopic examination performed two hours after the event revealed a small trickle of blood in the near-side sinus region. Mr Gollan was asked to provide a veterinary clearance prior to Il Riccio racing again.
  • Eckstein – slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Carried wider near the 300m when Star Of Monsoon shifted out around the heels of Ozark to improve.
  • Ozark – bumped by Star Of Monsoon after being slow to begin.
  • Cadogan - carried wider near the 300m when Star Of Monsoon shifted out around the heels of Ozark to improve. Laid out under pressure in the straight.
  • Fox Tales – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 3: AMWU Handicap 1500m

  • Dreamforce – was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 12.27pm when the horse was found to be lame in the near-foreleg. Stable representative Mr R King was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Dreamforce racing again.
  • Moher – shifted out at the start and hampered Multifacets.
  • Legendary Luke – shortly after the start shifted in and made contact with Collar.
  • Nassak – blundered near the 1400m. Rider J Parr stated that from his wide draw he elected to roll forward and take up a position behind the leader Moher. He added, after obtaining this position, his mount did not travel at any stage of the event and was under pressure soon after straightening. J Parr further stated, as he was not entirely happy with the mare's action over the final 200m, he desisted from riding it out to the finish of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be mildly lame in the off-foreleg. Mr N Dilmi, representing trainer Mr J Cummings, advised that Nassak had not displayed any lameness leading into today's race. Mr Dilmi was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare racing again.
  • Multifacets - near the 200m was directed back to the inside and was steadied across the heels of Legendary Luke to continue into clear running as that runner shifted out.

RACE 4: TAB Highway Handicap 1300m

  • Free Standing – badly buffeted on jumping between Delightful Feeling and Al Cubana, resulting in all three horses becoming unbalanced. Overraced badly in the early and middle stages and refused to settle.
  • Caribbean Concert – began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Critical Touch. As a consequence Caribbean Concert became unbalanced and lost ground.
  • Bills A Goodie – began awkwardly.
  • Joey's Destiny – shifted in at the start and made contact with Delightful Feeling. Over the concluding stages was unable to be ridden out to the finish when racing tight between Bills A Goodie and Beau Hoffa, which shifted in slightly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Beau Hoffa – near the 800m the gelding, which was racing keenly, was steadied away from the heels of Joey's Destiny.
  • Don't Doubt Her – on straightening briefly held up on the heels of Fuel.
  • Cowboys Karma – raced wide without cover throughout the event.
  • Dramatico – rider B El-Issa stated his mount was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event without cover and as a consequence was left without a finishing effort in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Al Cubana – when questioned regarding his riding making the home turn, J Collett stated after settling towards the rear of the field, he elected to follow Critical Touch from the 800m, but when that runner did not initially improve, he became held up on the heels of that gelding for some distance. He added that when Free Standing shifted off making the home turn he was then able to shift to the outside of Critical Touch in order to secure clear running and, after then shifting to the outside in the straight, Al Cubana finished the race off well.

RACE 5: CFMEU Mining Handicap 1350m

  • Chestnut Road – slow to begin (2L).
  • Metallic Crown – began awkwardly.
  • Maraam – which was slow to begin, was crowded for room by Asinara, which shifted in. In the incident Maraam made contact with the hindquarter of Royal Tudor.
  • Magicus – when questioned regarding the performance, rider J Collett stated his mount was stirred up prior to today's event, then raced keenly in the run, refused to settle and as a consequence was unable to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr G Smallwood undertook to report back on the progress of Magicus subsequent to the race.
  • Asinara – overraced in the early and middle stages and near the 1000m improved onto the heels of Royal Tudor and was steadied. Rider B Avdulla stated his mount was inclined to race keenly in the run and when the tempo increased making the home turn Asinara did not respond to his riding and from that point found it difficult to make ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mare to be displaying a mild case of the thumps. The post race condition of Asinara was brought to the attention of the stable representative Mr D Beadman. The Stewards will follow the post-race progress of the mare in the days subsequent.
  • Royal Tudor – near the 600m laid in, resulting in Chestnut Road being crowded for room. Inclined to lay in over the final 200m and near the 150m shifted in and brushed Top Me Up.

 RACE 6: Vincents Country Classic 2000m

  • Valatia – slow to begin.
  • Last Try Wins – slow to begin. Overraced throughout the early stages and making the first turn got its head up when being restrained from the heels of Essence Prevail.
  • Ashtomina – made contact with Mysticism at the start.
  • Mysticism – made contact with Ashtomina at the start.
  • Lonely Orphan – B El-Issa (Loyal Toast) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 1800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Lonely Orphan, resulting in Lonely Orphan losing its running and being checked, then being taken in onto Flitero, resulting in Flitero being crowded for room. B El-Issa's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 6 November 2016 and to expire on Thursday, 17 November 2016, on which day he may ride.
  • Essence Prevail – checked to avoid the heels of Lonely Orphan leaving the 1800m. Approaching the 800m had to be steadied when crowded between Last Try Wins and Flitero (C Reith), which shifted out to improve. C Reith was advised to exercise more care.
  • Flitero – held up making the home turn.
  • Something Borrowed – for some distance approaching the 200m raced in restricted room between Loyal Toast and Don't Nicme.
  • Avroson – held up for clear running until near the 200m.
  • Don't Nicme – near the 150m was steadied to avoid the heels of Lonely Orphan (D Jones), which shifted out when not quite clear. D Jones was advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
  • My Tagoson – raced wide without cover throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr R Northam advised the gelding will now be spelled.  

RACE 7: Blacktown Workers Handicap 1800m

  • Our Boy Nicholas – began awkwardly.
  • Torgersen – slow to begin. Vassal – slow to begin.
  • Tower Of Song – laid in in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 8: Bradford Soundscreen Handicap 1200m

  • Dixie Chick – trainer Mr D Pfieffer was fined the sum of $200 under LR35 for the late notification of B El-Issa as the rider of the mare. Slow to begin. Rider B El-Issa stated, after settling towards the back of the field, he shifted to the inside of Yuma Desert rather than coming around that runner, as he was of the opinion Yuma Desert would shift off. He added that when Yuma Desert held its ground, he was obliged to race in restricted room for some distance until near the 200m. B El-Issa further stated Dixie Chick is better suited when able to come to the outside and is provided with clear racing room. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mare had aggravated a speedy cut to the off-hind pastern.
  • Wine Tales – knuckled on jumping and then was crowded for room between Leami Astray and Rillito.
  • Yuma Desert – slow to begin.
  • In the Vanguard – began awkwardly.
  • Cab Fair – near the 200m In The Vanguard shifted out and hampered Trois Choix, which in turn shifted out, carrying Brigadoon Rise out onto Cab Fair, which became unbalanced.
  • Brigadoon Rise – near the 50m had to be checked when crowded between Trois Choix (J Collett), which shifted out slightly, and Cab Fair (J Ford), which shifted in slightly. Both J Collett and J Ford were reprimanded when the Stewards found that their shifts were only minor, however, nonetheless both riders were told they must stop riding and straighten their mounts as soon as they commence to shift ground.
  • Rillito – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare bled from both nostrils and had sustained a puncture wound to outside the off-fore cannon. Stable representative Mr D Beadman was advised the mare would incur the mandatory three month ban under AR53A.
  • Frill Seeking – when questioned regarding the mare setting a fast tempo in the middle stages, rider App. N Heywood stated, after obtaining the lead, his mount commenced to race keenly and despite his efforts to restrain it, as he was aware the tempo was fast, his mount did not respond and consequently set a fast tempo.

RACE 9: Viridian Lightbridge Handicap 1100m

  • Upscale – began awkwardly.
  • Elemenohpee – began awkwardly.
  • Sabino Speed – on jumping made contact with Chrysolaus.
  • Chrysolaus – on jumping made contact with Sabino Speed. Shortly after the start Chrysolaus and Escebee were crowded for room between Cosmic Cameo and Sabino Speed. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding, which was fractious in the barrier, sustained an abrasion to the nasal bone area and had blood in the near-side nostril. Trainer Mr J Sylvester was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Chrysolaus racing again.
  • Escebee – shortly after the start Chrysolaus and Escebee were crowded for room between Cosmic Cameo and Sabino Speed.
  • Arise Augustus – making the first turn Wonderbolt was inclined to lay out, resulting in Arise Augustus being hampered and crowded between Perfect Dare and Wonderbolt.
  • Perfect Dare – raced keenly in the middle stages and approaching the 600m was inconvenienced when crowded between Elemenohpee and Wonderbolt, which continued to shift off.
  • Wonderbolt – inside the 200m was directed to the inside of Sabino Speed to continue into clear running.
