  • Wonderbolt – raced keenly in the early and middle stages and for some distance after the 700m was awkwardly placed on the heels of Hurrara.
  • Isorich – raced wide without cover throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
  • Lucky Meteor – approaching the winning post became awkwardly placed on the heels of Painte (App. N. Heywood), which shifted in under pressure and consequently Lucky Meteor was unable to be ridden out to the finish of the race. App. Heywood was advised to exercise more care.
  • Hurrara – rider J Parr stated, when caught in a three wide position without cover, his mount was inclined to hang out when the field commenced to turn nearing the 600m. He added, despite his efforts to maintain a position three wide to the outside of Painte, Hurrara shifted off rounding the home turn, affording Mr Manhattan clear running to the finish. J Parr further stated that when his mount was crowded near the 150m between Isorich and Wonderbolt it gave ground quickly thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr G Frazer was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Hurrara racing again.

RACE 4: TAB Highway Handicap 1550m

  • Whirlwind Ascent – prior to the race it was noticed the gelding had a minor abrasion to its near-hind leg. Whirlwind Ascent was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Trainer Mr M Schmetzer was reminded of his obligation to advise the Stewards of any condition which may affect a horse's performance. Slow to begin. Near the 700m the gelding, which was racing keenly, improved onto the heels of Valhalla Member, was steadied and shifted out. As a consequence Mr Spin was hampered and carried wider.
  • Sunny Fame – made contact with Valhalla Member at the start.
  • Valhalla Member – made contact with Sunny Fame at the start.
  • Dynamic Concept – blundered on jumping.
  • Little Miss Chelsy – slow to begin.
  • Mr Spin – near the 700m was hampered and carried wider.
  • Valhalla Member – in the early stages was inclined to race keenly and laid out throughout the event. Rider R Hutchings stated that his mount never really travelled throughout the event, raced ungenerously and, after being caught wide, weakened in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Cherry Court – caught wide in the early stages and ultimately allowed to stride forward and race outside the lead near the 700m.
  • D'beak – near the 100m was steadied when crowded for room between Cliff (K O'Hara), which shifted out, and Sunny Fame (J Parr) which shifted in. Both K O'Hara and J Parr were advised to exercise more care. D'beak was then obliged to shift out to continue into clear running.
  • Bills A Goodie – App. N Heywood stated, from his wide barrier he endeavoured to take up a position forward of midfield, but when caught wide in the early stages he was obliged to race further back than intended. He added when Whirlwood Ascent, which was overracing, shifted out and forced his mount out wider near the 700m, he elected to restrain back to the rear so as not to cover additional ground. App. Heywood further stated Bills A Goodie raced greenly throughout the event and, having regard to the hard run the gelding had in the event, he was not too dissatisfied with its finishing effort. He said in his view the gelding may be assisted with the addition of blinkers.

RACE 5: Ranvet Handicap 1200m

  • Kuro – laid out under pressure in the straight.
  • Fine Mist - a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be mildly lame in the near-foreleg and had an abrasion to the off-hind leg. Trainer Mr P Murray was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Fine Mist racing again.

RACE 6: tab.com.au Handicap 1250m

  • Dream Folk – the gelding, which was standing awkwardly, was slow to begin (2L).
  • Sir Plush – shortly after the start made contact with Dark Steel. When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding and in particular the reason his mount was crossed by Commission in the early stages, J Collett stated he was issued with instructions to ensure that he finds cover on the gelding. He added, after his mount commenced well, he elected to restrain it in order to comply with his instructions, as he did not want to risk the possibility of being exposed without cover. J Collett further stated, when positioned to the outside of Well Hardley Ever in the early stages, he elected to further restrain his mount, as Well Hardley Ever was still positioned one off the fence, which then allowed Commission to cross his mount and as a consequence settled further back then he had intended. The Stewards advised J Collett he had made an error in the early stages by restraining when there was an opportunity to hold his position to the outside of Well Hardley Ever, which would have enabled him to take up a more favourable position closer to the fancied runners in the race, Reincarnate and Dark Steel.
  • Dark Steel – shortly after the start made contact with Sir Plush. Overraced in the lead.

RACE 7: Ashbury Handicap 1550m

  • Religify – slow to begin.
  • God's In Him – slow to begin.
  • Dylan's Rojo – raced keenly in the early stages.
  • Wine 'N' Dine – close to the finish line could not be fully tested when close to the heels of Red Excitement.
  • Dance Of Heroes – rider K O'Hara confirmed that her instructions were to take up a forward position and anticipated Religify and Dylan's Rojo would go forward and she would follow Dylan's Rojo, which was drawn to her inside. She added in addition and bearing in mind she was having her first ride on Dance Of Heroes today, she was also instructed that the gelding has an inclination to race keenly and for this reason she should ensure she obtained cover. K O'Hara further stated on jumping she did not ride her mount forward to avoid the gelding overracing and as a consequence, when the tempo was strong in the early stages, she was unable to hold the back of Dylan's Rojo, which ultimately went forward to lead. When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to hold a position on the back of Wine 'N' Dine making the first turn, K O'Hara stated she was reluctant to ride her mount along, bearing in mind her instructions, and when God's In Him obtained a position in advance of her mount she allowed that runner to cross rather than contest the position and risk her mount overracing.

RACE 8: McGrath Estate Agents Handicap 1900m

  • Diamond Made – began awkwardly.
  • High Opinion – on jumping crowded between Rosaleisha and Ascot Red, both of which shifted ground.
  • Takewing - on jumping crowded between Rosaleisha and Ascot Red, both of which shifted ground.
  • Mr Steal – made contact with Multifacets on jumping. A short distance later Multifacets shifted in, resulting in Mr Steal being checked and taken across the heels of Ascot Red. For a short distance approaching the 1200m made contact with Multifacets as both runners contested a position trailing Ascot Red.
  • My Giuliano – over the concluding stages raced tight to the inside of Be Like Dad, which shifted in.
  • Multifacets – for a short distance approaching the 1200m made contact with Mr Steal as both runners contested a position trailing Ascot Red. Rider App. L Magorrian stated that his mount made heavy contact with Mr Steal and, after contesting a position in the middle stages, got back further than he initially had intended, however was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth could offer no explanation for the performance and undertook to report back on the progress of the gelding in the days subsequent.

Rose Of Man then raced without cover for a short distance thereafter. Rider A Hyeronimus stated his mount settled back in the field, but raced too keenly in the run and consequently was left without a finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr T Robinson was asked to report back on the condition of Rose Of Man subsequent to the race.
  • Perizada – overraced and got its head up in the early and middle stages and for some distance after the 600m was steadied away from the heels of Zin Zan Elsie.
  • Magic Alibi – rider J Parr stated that, whilst he was instructed to obtain cover, when the mare began awkwardly he was obliged to take up a position further towards the rear of the field than he had anticipated. He added making the home turn, when striding inside the heels of Perizada, he was unable to shift to the outside of that runner, as Magic Alibi was racing strongly and for this reason he was badly held up to the inside of Perizada and on the back of Pienkna, before being able to shift to the outside of Perizada near the 100m to obtain clear running. J Parr was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the finish of the race.
  • Pienkna – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare lost its near-fore plate approaching the 100m.
  • Zin Zan Elsie – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities
