Power Rules in the Goulburn Cup

Lacked the power - Timeless Prince just couldn't make an impression in the Goulburn Cup

The trainer's of Timeless Prince and Smart Moochi would have been feeling very different emotions when the rain came at Goulburn today, just an hour before the Cup. Timeless Prince revels in the going, while Smart Moochi hasn't performed in the wet.

Jason Coyle, trainer of Smart Moochi, shouldn't have worried as the rain wasn't enough to impact the track. It had been a very hot day until that point.

The problem they both had in the end was quite the opposite, the fast times that were being run. Often when tracks are racing like Gouburn today it makes it tough for the smaller and more athletic gallopers to compete. Those with more power and speed get into their rhythm and simply overwhelm the others.

So Chris Waller's bold galloper Pythagorean took the prize in the 1,600 Listed event in the rapid time of 1 minute 34.94 seconds. Local trainer Kurt Goldman's trio of Faust, Court Connection and Kazoom were all just behind, while Timeless Prince and Smart Moochi tried hard, but made no impression at the back.

Don't dismiss the two 'little guys' though, the right conditions can see them both bounce back.
