H Bowman added, when caught wide and unable to cross runners to his inside, he then elected to go further back in order to find cover. He further stated Dreadlock travelled well in the run, but when asked to improve from the 600m found it difficult to make up ground on the heavy track conditions, which he attributed to the principal reason for the gelding's disappointing performance. • Trying – when questioned regarding his riding in the straight, J Collett stated, after saving ground towards the inside approaching the home turn, near the 300m he elected to shift to the outside of Ruthless Agent as he felt the going towards the outside was superior and this would have given his mount the best opportunity to finish the race off.

Trainer Mr J O'Shea stated that he was of the view that the gelding was not suited by racing without cover and has previously advised it is imperative that Hartnell races with a trail. He said in the early stages when Dixie Blossoms went forward to improve, he elected to come back and attempt to find a position behind Zanbagh, however Danish Twist proved difficult to settle through the early and middle stages and got its head up on a number of occasions and this, coupled with the heavy track today, were factors that led to the mare's failure in the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr K Lees was of the view that Danish Twist was not overly suited by the heavy track conditions, coupled with the slow tempo, which irrespective of today's surface made it difficult for the mare to make up ground out wide.
  • I Told Georgie – raced keenly in the middle stages.
  • Flippant – when questioned regarding his riding in the early stages, C Brown stated he was under no specific instructions to lead on the mare, but was instructed to ensure that his mount was able to travel through the heavy going. He added that when Dixie Blossoms jumped well to his outside and was forced forward when Zanbagh held its position to his inside, he then allowed Dixie Blossoms to cross his mount rather than contest the lead so he was able to assist his mount to travel through the heavy track conditions. C Brown said, once he was  crossed by Dixie Blossoms, he improved to the outside of that runner, where he travelled at its girth throughout the early stages.
