Gai's Christmas Gift
Published: 22 Dec 2014
Winning smile - Does Gai have a Christmas present for punters?
As we all get ready for Christmas, last minute shopping and trying to sort out exactly what your partner would like as a gift is top of the list. Some of the clues can be cryptic to say the least. It's easier picking the winner of a 20 horse mares race on the Kenso!
The good news is us racing fans get extra presents too. Along with the gifts in the stocking, the race clubs in NSW and Victoria have served up a feast of racing this weekend. Hopefully finding a winner proves an easier task than battling the last-minute shoppers in town.
It all starts with Boxing day and a feature race meeting at Sandown, alongside a strong card at Royal Randwick. A few Boxing Day drinks later, it is over to Canterbury for the Classic meeting on Saturday, supported by Moonee Valley down south.
Keep an eye on The Race Guide for the only feature-event Race Guides in Australia and Form Guides for all the other events.
Final acceptances are taken today. Early nominations show up a few gallopers to keep an eye on when the markets come up.
"Gai's Gift"
Vitello - Boxing Day @ Royal Randwick
The weight conditions of a 2MW race suit the classier horses and this guy fits the bill. He strides out on-pace and brings Frespanol form to the event. Very hard to run down if he accepts.
Well-placed? - Check The Race Guides on Christmas Eve to see if Vitello can win
"Shooting Straight"
Crooked Stick - Boxing Day @ Royal Randwick
Sneaks into a BM 70 race. She is an athletic type that will enjoy a big field after getting out-sprinted last start behind Peace Force. Expect her to put her head down and chase home hard.
"Waller's Winner"
Religify - Saturday @ Canterbury
Waller's best speedster can continue on his merry way in a BM 80 race that looks well within his reach. A strong muscular type with bundles of power. He could be the Christmas 'fill-up'!
A real winner - Religify could come up short in early markets
"Christmas Value"
Nisroc - Saturday @ Canterbury
She will be bigger odds this time after not getting the best of luck behind Peace Force last start. A more athletic type, the 1550m could suit just nicely and her trainer Ron Quinton is sure to have her cherry ripe.
