  • Goldfinch – in the early stages the filly, which was racing keenly when travelling wide without cover, improved to race outside the leader near the 800m.
  • Puppet Master – rider D McDonogh stated, whilst his intention was to obtain cover today, after making contact with Tiara Star on jumping, his mount took some time to respond to his riding early and consequently settled a little further back than intended. He added in his opinion Puppet Master is suited by firmer surfaces. Trainer Mr G Portelli confirmed the instructions and advised that Puppet Master had settled further back than he had anticipated.

  • Fiesta – jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with River Bird, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Near the 300m had to be steadied when disappointed for clear running between Secret Lady and Into The Abyss. Fiesta was then held up for some distance behind Secret Lady before shifting to that runner's inside to secure clear running at the 200m.

When questioned regarding the filly racing further back, rider G Schofield stated his instructions were to be positive and he anticipated following Secret Lady across. He said when Secret Lady did not go forward as he anticipated, he was obliged then to take hold of his mount and race further back in the field so as to avoid being caught wide. He added, whilst caught four deep in the run, he was able to obtain cover on the filly and it finished the race of reasonably well.
  • Secret Lady – when questioned regarding his riding in the early stages and in particular as to whether there was an opportunity to cross to race directly outside the leader Adamina, J Collett stated his instructions were to ride the filly positively. He said, after commencing well, he initially rode Secret Lady forward in an endeavour to comply with his instructions, but when Dynamisante and Tell No Tales held a position to his inside, he elected near the 950m to desist from riding forward in an endeavour to try and find a position three wide. He added when Tell No Tales held its ground to the inside of Dynamisante, his mount was caught four wide throughout the event without cover. Stewards advised J Collett that he had made an error of judgement in prematurely desisting from riding forward, which resulted in his mount being forced to cover additional ground. He was advised that given his instructions he should have continued to ride his mount forward to take up a position outside the leader Adamina. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

  • Acquittal – rider J Ford explained that his mount was fractious in the barriers, jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start. He said he then rode the gelding along to take up a forward position and, after obtaining the lead in the early stages, his mount commenced to race keenly. He added that when Mate Story improved to his outside he attempted to allow that runner to cross, but his mount was racing too keenly and would not come back underneath him. J Ford further stated that as a consequence Acquittal, particularly between the 1400m and the 1000m, set too quick a tempo despite his efforts to restrain.

He added that near the 200m he was able to position himself to the outside of Invincible George, whereby his mount ran on reasonably well. • More Moet – a post-race veterinary examination found the gelding on return to the mounting enclosure to have its tongue over the bit, which restricted its respiratory intake. • Hunter Jack – rider A Hyeronimus advised the gelding travelled comfortably in the lead, but when under pressure in the straight was inclined to lay in. Trainer Mr T Martin advised the gelding will now be spelled.
  • Vaucluse Bay – rider B Shinn confirmed that his instructions were to be forward, but in the early stages his mount did not who the necessary speed to take up a prominent position. He added as a result High Opinion took up a position outside the leader Hunter Jack and raced more forward than he had anticipated.

RACE 9: Fresh For Kids Handicap 1300m

  • Magicaz – Stewards permitted rider C Brown to ride the mare ½ kilogram overweight.

He said in his view the race was dominated by on pace runners and over the concluding stages the condition of the colt may have given out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be grade 1 lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr C Waller concurred with the views of rider G Schofield and advised Stewards Kaonic was expected to perform well, albeit first up today.
