Summer Racing Rolls On

Under a big weight and aided by a peach ride from Tye Angland, I'm Imposing went one step better than his Villiers defeat last start in taking out the Group 3 Summer Cup at Randwick today. Not having his ideal strong tempo where we have seen him rattle off some impressive sectionals, Angland settled I'm Imposing a little closer than usual and was still able to show his finishing burst to defeat Midsummer Sun and the iron horse Casino Dancer
In winning today, I'm Imposing also created a slice of history becoming the first horse since 1928 to go back to back in the race. He is also only the second horse to carry more than 57,5kg to victory, adding merit to the win.
After riding a treble on Christmas Eve, jockey Hugh Bowman again stole the honours booting home four winners. Two of these earlier wins aboard the Godolphins' Wedding and Chris Wallers' Liberty Island impressed the hoop claiming they are destined for better races. His two other victories came aboard Unique and getting the best out of Montiro in a driving finish to end the day.
After the Christmas Day 20mm deluge, the Randwick surface started on a Soft 6. This was upgraded quickly to a Soft 5, then onto a Good 4 for the remainder of the program. With the rail out +3m, the Randwick 'lane' about four off the fence was the place to be.
Racing returns tomorrow at Canterbury Park and full colour Race Guides are now online for Races 4, 5, and the Canterbury Stakes Race 6.
