The full Stewards Report for Rosehill Gardens is shown below.

RACE 1: TAB Place Multi Plate 1100m

  • Lieder – jumped in at the start. Near the 700m raced in restricted room to the inside of Belridge which, after being inclined to lay out in the middle stages, shifted back in to resume its position.
  • Belridge – jumped awkwardly. Overraced and raced greenly in the early and middle stages and then ran out rounding the first turn, taking Prince Morpheus wider on the track. Blundered at the 300m. Belridge continued to hang out and could not be fully tested by its rider, K O'Hara, in the straight. Trainer Mr L Cohen stated that, in his opinion, the colt would benefit from race experience and indicated consideration would be given to gelding Belridge during a spell. Mr Cohen was advised that the colt would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be shin sore in the near-foreleg. Mr Cohen was advised of the requirement for horses to stay on course for 30 minutes following their race, as Belridge had left the course to return to its on course stables before this deadline. A direction was given for Belridge to be brought back on course.
  • Prince Morpheus – jumped awkwardly.
  • Hardline – buffeted for some distance after the start between I’m Not Sure and Lieder, which shifted in. Rider D Browne explained that he endeavoured to work to the outside of Ajeeta at the entrance to the straight to get into clear running and was continually hampered when Ajeeta laid out for some distance approaching the 200m. He added that he was of the opinion that Hardline would benefit from the addition of blinkers. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • I’m Not Sure – checked shortly after the start when crowded for room between Encosta Line and Hardline, which was taken in by Lieder.
  • Ajeeta – hung out rounding the first turn. Rider T Berry explained that the filly was a little field shy and continued to hang out rounding the home turn, before laying in near the 300m. He added he was unable to fully test the filly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr M Newnham was advised that Ajeeta must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Mr Newnham undertook to report back on the progress of the filly subsequent to the race and the immediate racing plans for the filly.

RACE 2: Cellarbrations Handicap 1400m

  • Gold Seventy Seven – slow to begin. Hampered on the first turn near the 1000m when Can I Have shifted out to relieve tightening to Conarchie.
  • Can I Have jumped awkwardly.
  • Choice We Had – hampered at the start.
  • Avonaco – was inclined to lay out in the straight and near the 200m stepped in away from Better Not Blue and made contact with Choice We Had.
  • Better Not Blue – laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
  • Tree Of Jesse – at the 1000m had to be steadied off the heels of Grunderzeit (J McDonald), which shifted in when not clear. J McDonald was reprimanded. Was badlty held up until passing the 200m, where it was steadied off the heels of Grunderzeit and then shifted to the outside of that runner to continue into clear running.
  • Conarchie – approaching the first turn near the 100m got its head up and overraced when being restrained off the heels of Can I Have (B Shinn), which shifted in when not quite clear. B Shinn was reprimanded.

RACE 3: De Bortoli Wines Handicap 1350m

  • Lester’s Home - due to a race book printer error, the gelding was shown as a scratching when in fact it was a starter. Suitable announcements were made on course. Was held up in the early part of the straight and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 150m.
  • Absolutelyanything – Stewards accepted the explanation offered by G Schofield that he was unable to make the allocated weight of 54 kilograms on the mare, due to a change in routine necessitated by an injury he suffered at Randwick on New Year’s Day.
  • Zin Zan Eddie – close to the line had to be steadied when awkwardly placed inside Lester’s Home.

RACE 4: Happy 50th Glenn Handicap 2400m

  • Al Farafir – trainer Mr S Kavanagh was fined the sum of $100 under LR35 for the late declaration of App. J Innes Junior as the rider of the gelding.
  • Husson Choice – reared on jumping and lost ground. Rider K McEvoy was fined $200 under AR143(b) for weighing in under his declared weight.
  • It’s A Silvertrail – passing the 1600m had to be steadied off the heels of Olympic Academy. Laid out and away from Husson Choice passing the 200m and then, as B Shinn pulled the whip through to the left hand approaching the 100m, It’s A Silvertrail ran back in, before being corrected by its rider, B Shinn, and, as a result, was not fully tested in the last three strides.
  • Last Wish – was badly held up in the early part of the straight and did not obtain clear running until passing the 200m.

RACE 5: TAB.COM.AU Handicap 1100m

  • Mihiri – briefly crowded for room approaching the 1000m when Forget laid in.
  • Encostanati – when questioned, H Bowman stated the tactics had been left to him as to how to ride the gelding from its wide barrier. He explained he felt the gelding’s best interests would be served if it was able to be close to the leader and short-priced favourite, Craftiness, recognizing that tactic risked Encostanati being caught wide. H Bowman added that Encostanati did not show sufficient speed to cross Terra Amata and then he was obliged to travel three wide throughout, after which the gelding weakened badly in the straight. On cooling down, it was observed the gelding had a discrete non-painful swelling associated with the off-fore tendon region. Trainer Mr B Baker confirmed that his intentions were to be somewhat more positive on the gelding today from its wide barrier. He was reminded of his obligations to notify the Stewards of any change of tactics and, furthermore, was advised that Encostanati must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Mr Baker indicated the gelding would be spelled.
  • Forget – rider S Clipperton was questioned regarding why he did not immediately attempt to proceed into a run which developed between Kudero and Terra Amata shortly after straightening. He explained that the felt the gelding travelled well into the straight, but was immediately under pressure and, when he positioned himself to improve into a run approaching the 200m, Terra Amata shifted in and, as a result, Forget only obtained clear running to the outside of Terra Amata passing the 150m. Then over the concluding stages Forget could not be fully tested when Tahitian Black shifted in slightly under pressure.

RACE 6: Schweppes Handicap 1350m

  • Single – laid in throughout the event.
  • Forever Crazy – a post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which weakened in the straight, did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 7: Hyland Race Colours Handicap 1200m

  • Amazon – jumped awkwardly. Rider B Shinn explained, from his wide gate, he took up a rearward position, as had been the instructions from trainer Mr L Bridge, however, with the last 600m being run in a particularly quick sectional, the mare was unable to make ground in the straight and was inclined to lay in. He added, being first up today, Amazon will derive benefit from race fitness. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Holy Delusions – rider G Schofield stated that, under the mare’s top weight of 59.5 kilograms and with the last 600m run below 34 seconds, she was unable to make ground in the straight, having initially given the leaders a sizeable start. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr L Prior agreed with G Schofield in that, when the race developed into a sprint home and giving the leaders a big start, it was not advantageous to the mare’s chances of finishing the race off. He undertook to report back as to how the mare pulls up. Trainer Mr C Waller stated he intended to back the mare up at Randwick next week and undertook to submit a veterinary clearance for the mare.
  • Engagement – rider J McDonald stated that the mare had not been comfortable in the gates and bounded in the air as the start was effected. He added that Engagement was never travelling comfortably and, in his opinion, is not concentrating in its races. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Oxford Heart – rider S Clipperton was fined $400, after pleading guilty to a charge under AR145(b) to weighing in in excess of half a kilogram overweight.

RACE 8: TAB Rewards Handicap 1500m

  • Saintly Lad – abraded its offside hock whilst being saddled. A pre-race veterinary examination passed the gelding fit to start.
  • Choice Bro – App. B Loy stated his instructions were to be more positive on the gelding today, due to the lack of apparent pace in the race. He added, rather than be trapped wide and after beginning well, he elected to push on and assume the lead approaching the first turn near the 1000m. Stable foreman Mr G McCrae stated that the instructions today were similar to those issued at the gelding’s last start on this track on 20 December 2014, however, on that occasion Choice Bro settled approximately midfield. Mr McCrae was asked to remind trainer Mr J Sargent to notify the Stewards of any change of tactics.
  • In A Knot – rider K McEvoy stated that the gelding was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and he had some concerns with its action at that point, before breaking down badly at the 50m. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed a fracture to the lower near-foreleg. In A Not was sent to the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Camden for autopsy. The Stewards inspected the relevant part of the track and were satisfied that the condition of the track was consistent and did not have any bearing on the incident. Trainer Mr D Vandyke will be interviewed.
