Heading North - Champagne Cath is one of many Waller gallopers on the float to the Gold Coast

After final acceptances today, Saturday's meeting at Royal Randwick is looking a bit thin on the ground. The lucrative Magic Millions race day on the Gold Coast has lured some of Sydney's better horses up north in the search for bigger prizes.

Of the eight races at 'headquarters', only two have attracted double figure entries, while two races will not be paying for third place.

It's the two and three-year-old Magic Millions feature races that have had the most impact, which include a total of 17 NSW-trained runners in their acceptances. Alongside the youngsters well-performed older gallopers such as Amovatio, Champagne Cath (pictured above), Driefontein and Strawberry Boy have also made the trip.

The number of acceptances state-by-state for the two feature races is shown below.

$1 MILLION MAGIC MILLIONS 3YO GUINEAS - 1400 metres

  • Queensland: 11
  • NSW: 8
  • Victoria: 1
  • South Australia: 1

$2 MILLION MAGIC MILLIONS 2YO CLASSIC - 1200 metres

  • Queensland: 11
  • NSW: 9
  • Victoria: 1

A preview of the Gold Coast features will be available on Friday alongside the full Race Guides for the Royal Randwick card.
