The Stewards Report for Royal Randwick is shown below, as provided by Racing NSW.
RACE 1: TAB Place Multi Handicap 1600m
- Doubos – crowded on jumping away between Bomber Brown and Proxy.
- Bomber Brown – App. W Costin explained that the gelding raced a little too keenly in the lead, did not appear to appreciate today’s firmer surface and failed to finish its race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 2: Hyland Race Colours Plate 1100m
- Holler – the start was delayed when the colt lost its off-hind plate in the enclosure and had to be replated behind the barrier.
- Gigolo – rider B Shinn was dislodged from the colt behind the barrier when it reared. In the incident G Schofield, who was aboard Stimac, was struck by Gigolo behind the barrier, examined by the Club's Medical Officer subsequent to the race and passed fit to fulfil his riding engagements. B Shinn stated his mount was a little slow to begin, but mustered speed quickly to lead. He added that, when pressure was applied by Holler rounding the home turn, his mount did not respond and was a little disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery and had a laceration to the off-hind cannon and an abrasion to the near-hind fetlock and pastern. Trainer Mr C Waller undertook to report on the immediate race plans for the colt.
- Unsinkable – the start was further delayed, resulting in the race starting approximately five minutes late, when the filly was unable to be loaded. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Unsinkable be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 1.50pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket:
- 1st) Holler less 0c win and 1c place
- 2nd) Encosta Line less 3c place
- 3rd) Fireworks less 2c place
- Trainer Mr G Nickson was advised Unsinkable must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
- Fireworks – knuckled on jumping away. T Berry advised, as a result, he then took the option of crossing and riding his mount back in the field.
- Ideal Express – missed the start slightly and was bumped shortly afterwards when Flaunting shifted out. Had to be steadied after travelling 100m when racing in restricted room between Flaunting and Gigolo, which shifted out when racing greenly.
- Queen’s Crown – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 3: Drummond Golf Handicap 1200m
- I Am Zelady – which lost its off-hind plate, was replated in the tie-up stalls, inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer behind the barriers and passed fit to start. Rider J Collett explained that he was not fully ready when the start was released and, as a result, the mare jumped in the air at the start and he took some time to get his foot into the near-side stirrup iron. Trainer Mr S Kavanagh stated I Am Zelady has been a problem missing the start in recent starts, although had been performing well at barrier practice. He indicated he would spell I Am Zelady and give the mare remedial training. Mr Kavanagh was advised I Am Zelady must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
RACE 4: Cellarbrations Handicap 2000m

- Choice Bro – which was slow to begin, had to be checked shortly afterwards off the heels of Monton, which ran out. Contacted the running rail at the 600m.
- Monton – as a result of jumping awkwardly from barrier 2 and shifting out at the start, was then caught three wide in the early stages when Single assumed a position one off and Choice Bro improved to the inside of the heels of Single. App. T Marshall stated that, when caught three wide, he elected then to go forward and cross Black Jag, rather than remain racing three wide with his big weight.
- You’ll Never – when questioned concerning his tactics in the middle stages, J McDonald stated, when the winner Burbero improved around him at the 700m, he elected not to come off the back of Single, as he anticipated being pushed wide around the home turn. He added that You’ll Never has only a short, sharp run and, by going between runners, he was not held up at any point and felt his mount had every chance.
- Black Jag – steadied off the heels of Monton (App. T Marshall) at the 700m, which shifted in when not quite clear. App. Marshall was advised to make sure he give sufficient clearance when crossing other runners.
