Winning Moves at Rosehill

Good job - Kim Waugh was confident Oxford Poet would win

Race 1

A big market drift didn't stop Vancouver showing adaptability, settling worse than midfield before powering over his rivals in the opener.

Winning Move - Punters needed to show faith in race track form, not trial form after a poor recent warm-up.

Race 2

The in-form Coolring from the Bjorn Baker yard came into the race on the back of two weekend wins. He put the race to bed early in the straight, while others scrambled to find the right position.

Winning Move - Betting on the possibility of a Slow Tempo and the fact that Coolring had a superior turn-of-foot.

Race 3

If you looked at Mardi in the mounting yard, the ears back, sweat and jogging weren't good signs. But she has a tendency to do that and controlled the race at a Steady Tempo before fighting them off to win. Palazzo Pubblico proved a risk at 1400m on a wet track, while Adorabeel needed a little more tempo.

Winning Move - Betting against Palazzo Pubblico at 1400m (a sprinting type) and not paying attention to a poor parade!

Race 4

Two-year-olds always throw up a few surprises and the heavily backed favourite Giulietta was one punters were taking the short odds on. The winner Fireworks got well back and Avdulla pulled the right reign when it counted. She was one of many at good value outside the fav', who had never seen a soft track.

Winning Move - Betting against the short-priced fav' on a Soft Track

Race 5

There was an interesting betting move on the imposing type Mr Bogart who had all favours winning his maiden last start. Sarajevo was the one who had the runs on the board from the Spring Carnival and he enjoyed a Strong Tempo to win.

Winning Move - Backing the class runner and hoping James McDonald could do the rest.

Race 6

Boban may have got the punters in again looking great in the yard, but he didn't show much fight to the line. Faith in Chris Waller, and some inside stable knowledge, paid dividends here. Big changes to Weary's training routine had him firing on all cylinders after a poor Spring and the tough grey got the prize. Driefontein was brave in defeat.

Winning Move - Following the market money and getting some stable whispers.

Race 7

The money came for winner Sasenkile and the 'genuine stayers' came to the fore here with wide margins. Choice Bro was specked at double figure before struggling at the distance. Georgey Aeroplane drifted in the market as the track dried.

Winning Move - Good form reading and betting the weights would make the difference.

Race 8

Rosehill tends to suit the powerful free-striding types and Oxford Poet is the perfect example. Blake Shinn executed another trademark front-running ride. It seems the favourite Alias beats up on easier fields (midweek Canterbury last start) and struggles when the class

Winning Move - Betting that Kim Waugh had the likely leader fit enough to win at his favourite track
