Unlucky Runners @ Royal Randwick

Published: 07 Mar 2015

Hoping for better next time - Gerald Ryan had no luck with Rubick at Royal Randwick

Did the luck fall your way at Royal Randwick or did you back one of the 'unlucky runners'.

Keep the faith in a few of the gallopers below, they could repay you at good odds next time.

Race 1 GUINNESS REISLING STAKES

STAY WITH ME (5th)

She wouldn't settle during the run and had to take off out wide mid-race. Like most horses, she couldn't sustain for more than 500 metres but wasn't beaten far behind ENGLISH (2.3 lengths).

Race 2 UNSW TODMAN STAKES

HEADWATER (3rd)

He sat three wide chasing what looks to be the best two-year-old in Australia. He might not beat VANCOUVER, but he's still got a hope of beating most other youngsters.

Race 3 WENONA GIRL HANDICAP

BROOK ROAD (11th) & MIHIRI (7th)

BROOK ROAD was stuck out in the 'car park' four wide, while MIHIRI couldn't find a run in the straight. Both of them are classy mares that can do better next time.

Race 5 ASPIRATION QUALITY

ROLE MODEL (5th) & MARDI (9th)

With Waterhouse's horses winning everything you might have wondered what happened to these two warriors, both failing in the same race. ROLE MODEL and MARDI raced near the very strong tempo set by SOLICIT, so were entitled to get a bit tired at the end. MARDI also got stuck behind the tiring leaders on the turn.

Race 8 HYLAND RACE COLOURS CHALLENGE STAKES

RUBICK (3rd)

He couldn't find the lead and didn't get clear running until the 200 metre mark. By that stage the 'bird had flown', which in this case was the speedy MIRACLES OF LIFE. He never got a shot at beating her.

Race 9 XIRRUS FIREBALL STAKES

FINE MIST (10th)

She jumped nicely before finding herself four wide without any cover on the speed. It was a race that was always going to be tough for her to win, but she could bounce back in easier grade.
