RACE 1: Guinness Reisling Stakes (Group 2) 1200m

  • Giulietta – lunged forward and made contact with the barrier gates prior to the start being effected. The filly was unloaded and a veterinary examination passed the filly fit to start. Rider T Clark stated that, although the filly was fractious in the barrier, he did not attribute this incident to the reason for its poor performance, but rather that it may have been symptomatic of Guilietta coming to the end of its preparation. He added that, although the filly travelled well in the run, she was immediately under pressure on entering the straight and did not finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a mild abrasion to the near-side of the chest. Stable representative Mr M Newnham agreed with the assessment of T Clark and stated that Giulietta will now be spelled. Mr Newnham was advised that the filly must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Leaving the 600m had to be steadied off the heels of Tibrogargan Miss (App. L Tarrant), which shifted in when not quite clear. App. Tarrant was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is two lengths clear when shifting ground.
  • Fireworks – slow to begin.
  • English – slow to begin.
  • Mine Two – slow to begin.
  • Ottoman – got its head up when being restrained in the early stages and then overraced for some distance in the middle stages. Passing the 800m had to be steadied away from the heels of Stay With Me. Near the 50m briefly hampered when English laid in under pressure.
  • Stay With Me – for some distance passing the 800m got its head up when being restrained off the heels of Calaverite.
  • Calaverite – overraced in the early stages. Approaching the 600m was tightened for room between Perignon, which shifted out when being restrained away from the heels of Giulietta, and, to Calaverite's outside, Stay With Me, which shifted in marginally, resulting in Calaverite clipping the heels of Stay With Me and blundering.
  • Perignon – approaching the 600m had to be steadied off the heels of Giulietta and shifted out, making contact with Calaverite.

RACE 2: UNSW Todman Stakes (Group 2) 1200m

  • Vancouver – broke through its barrier stall when a loud noise was made by Headwater kicking its padded rear gate. Vancouver was quickly recaptured by the Clerk of the Course, inspected behind the barriers by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start.
  • Furnaces – jumped awkwardly and shifted in.
  • Mishani Honcho – hampered on jumping and lost ground.
  • Voilier – slow to begin. Rider T Angland stated that the gelding was fractious in the gates, which resulted in it being slow to begin. He added that Voilier raced disappointingly today and may have been outclassed at this level. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Headwater – rider B Shinn stated that, although his mount began well, it was apparent that he would be unable to cross the early leaders, Furnaces and Vancouver, and he, therefore, was obliged to race three wide without cover. He added his mount was struggling coming to the turn and, in his opinion, did not back up from its win in the Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill on 21 February 2015. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to have a healing wound to below the inside knee and to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes could not offer any tangible excuse for the disappointing performance of Headwater, other than the colt had been obliged to race wide. He undertook to report back on the progress of the colt subsequent to the race.

RACE 3: Wenona Girl Handicap (Group 3) 1200m

  • My Sabeel – which became cast in its stable on Thursday, 5 March 2015, was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer on arrival on course and passed fit to start. Jumped awkwardly.
  • Griante – jumped awkwardly.
  • Brook Road – jumped awkwardly and then shifted in and hampered Liesele. Approaching the 600m made contact with Mihiri, as Brook Road maintained its position on the back of Mineko. Rider B Avdulla was questioned regarding the positioning of his body in the incident when his mount came into contact with Mihiri, putting him in close proximity to the body of its rider, T Berry. B Avdulla was advised that, whilst the Stewards accepted that he was riding competitively, he must not position his body such that his actions are open to question. When overracing passing the 700m had to be checked away from the heels of Mineko, shifted out, hampering Griante and Fine Bubbles. Rider B Avdulla stated, although his mount was trapped wide and was involved in interference approaching the 600m, the mare did not let down in the straight and he advised the Stewards he had some concerns with its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a laceration inside the near-side fetlock and was displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr K Lees advised that Brook Road would now undergo a thorough veterinary examination, which will include an endoscopy, the results of which he will forward to the Stewards. Mr Lees was asked to report back on the progress of the mare following its first up performance today.
  • Mihiri – for some distance leaving the 800m had to be steadied away from the heels of I love It. Near the 600m had to be checked away from the heels of I Love It when Brook Road improved around the outside of Mihiri and held its line, resulting in Mihiri being awkwardly placed on the heels of I Love It for some distance. Was then badly held up in the early part of the straight and did not obtain clear running until directed to the outside of My Sabeel approaching the 100m.
  • Just A Girl – suffered a bleeding attack for the second time. Trainer Mr L Griffith was advised that, under the provisions of AR53A, the mare would incur a lifetime bar in Australia.
  • Kristy Lee – was held up in the straight and continually had to be steadied away from the heels of Scorpio Queen for some distance from the 200m to approaching the 100m. As Scorpio Queen was inclined to shift out, Kristy Lee did not get clear running over the concluding stages and was not fully tested by its rider.

RACE 4: Girvan Waugh Partners' Randwick City Stakes (Listed) 2000m

  • Black Jag – slow to begin (2L).
  • Maygrove – ran out at the start.
  • Grand Marshal – slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Self Sense – ran in under pressure near the 150m. Then when being corrected by its rider inside the 100m ran out. Rider T Angland pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(i) for striking his mount consecutively with the whip prior to the 100m. T Angland was reprimanded after taking into account his good prior record.
  • Tupac Amaru – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5: Aspiration Quality (Group 3) 1600m

  • Define – became unbalanced near the 300m. when improving to the inside of Solicit, which was weakening quickly.
  • Solicit – rider H Bowman stated that, as the mare overraced in the lead in the early and middle stages, he had some concerns regarding its ability to finish off the race as far out as the 700m. He added, although he had no specific concerns with the mare's galloping action, it was immediately under pressure on straightening and, when it was apparent it was well beaten, he did not push his mount full out to the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post-race recovery and had lost its off-fore plate. Trainer Mr G Ryan could offer no tangible excuse and said that he will consult with the owners before deciding on the mare's immediate racing future. The inquiry was adjourned pending that advice.
  • Mardi – rider J Cassidy stated that he had to make use of his mount to stay in touch with the leaders in a fast run race, however, the mare was immediately under pressure shortly after straightening and, in his opinion, raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr M Newnham stated that the mare has previously not raced well when obliged to travel to the inside of other runners, however, indicated that consideration would be now given to the mare's immediate racing future. The inquiry was adjourned pending that advice.
  • Lorna May – rider T Berry stated that the mare travelled well, but it was a beaten horse as far out as the 600m and, as a result, he eased his mount down over the final 200m when he had concerns with its action. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes undertook to report back on the progress of the mare subsequent to the race.

RACE 6: Girvan Waugh Randwick Guineas (Group 1) 1600m

  • Preferment – made the home turn awkwardly after being bumped by Rhodin Drive.

  • Rhodin Drive – overraced in the early and middle stages.
  • Hallowed Crown – rider H Bowman was fined $200 under AR144 for making physical contact with another person prior to weighing in.

RACE 7: Canterbury Stakes (Group 1) 1300m

  • Criterion – slow to begin.
  • Tiger Tees – Rider C Reith stated that he had to make some use of his mount to go forward and sit outside the leader, Cosmic Endeavour, however, he was of the belief that the gelding needs more give in the ground to show its best form.. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Pride concurred that Tiger Tees now needs a soft track to perform at its best. He was advised that Tiger Tees, which was beaten 7.8 lengths, must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

RACE 8: Hyland Race Colours Challenge Stakes (Group 2) 1000m

  • Rubick – shortly after the start ran out away from Rain Affair, resulting in Famous Seamus and Mossfun being crowded when taken out towards the heels of Va Pensiero. Shortly after straightening was held up when disappointed for a run between Nuclear Class and Rain Affair, as both runners commenced to tire. Rubick then had to be directed out across the heels of runners to continue into clear running passing the 200m.
  • Knoydart – shortly after the start had to be steadied away from the heels of Mossfun and was taken wider.
  • Rain Affair – near the 900m ran out away from Nuclear Class and hampered Rubick. Overraced in the middle stages.
  • Nuclear Class – ran out linking up with the course proper near the 1000m.
  • Rain Affair – laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
  • Villa Verde – rider B Shinn stated the principal reason for the mare's poor performance was, with the particularly fast tempo and the mare resuming today, it was unable to maintain contact with the field and only worked to the line fairly. Trainer Mr A Cummings stated Villa Verde had worked and trialled well leading into the race and he was particularly happy with its work on Tuesday, 3 March 2015 and a forward showing was expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Mr Cummings undertook to report back to the Stewards on the progress of Villa Verde in the days subsequent, but he indicated that it would continue its campaign in a fortnight.

RACE 9: Xirrus Fireball Stakes (Listed) 1100m

  • Traveston Girl – acting on a report from trainer Mr T Gollan that Traveston Girl was found to be suffering from a nasal discharge, the Stewards permitted the filly's withdrawal at 8am. Mr Gollan was asked to provide a veterinary clearance for the filly prior to its next start.
  • Memorial – bounded in the air on jumping and lost ground.
  • Music Magnate – jumped awkwardly and ran out at the start. Overraced badly in the early and middle stages. Near the 700m was hampered when Memorial shifted out around the heels of Soldi Domani.
  • Soldi Domani – for some distance approaching the 600m had to be steadied away from the heels of Sultry Feeling, which was also inclined to overrace and get its head up. Was then held up rounding the home turn and continued to be badly held up early in the straight. Shifted out across the heels of runners and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 100m when it shifted to the outside of the heels of Music Magnate.
  • Sultry Feeling – bumped near the 250m when Kuro shifted out around the heels of Peeping to continue into clear running. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which raced wide and raced without cover, did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Ygritte – had to be steadied for a short distance after the start when Onemorezeta ran out. Rider J Collett was spoken to regarding weighing in 0.5 kilogram overweight. J Collett was advised that, with reasonable tolerance, riders are expected to weigh in as close as possible to the weight that they weigh out.
  • Kuro – laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
  • Fine Mist – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. Mr P Murray, representing trainer Mr B Murray, was advised a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the filly racing again.
