'Classic' Market Dominated by Champion Filly

Classic winner - Eskimo Queen beats home Hot Danish in the 2008 Coolmore Classic at 20/1

The Coolmore Classic is one of the highlights of the early Autumn Carnival, a Group One Handicap for Fillies and Mares that's worth $360,000 and a big boost to broodmare value for the winning owners.

It has a history of attracting a competitive field every year, but things are looking a bit different for the 2015 edition this Saturday at Rosehill Gardens.

John Thompson's classy filly First Seal dominates early markets, rating a $1.70 favourite with Luxbet. Dear Demi leads a group that could simply be 'also-rans' as $9 second favourite.

Is she too short, or is that value?

The Race Guide's Analyst Team has a look at what makes her so good.

First Seal

  • Three-year-old "Classic, Strong & Balanced" Bay Filly

  • Fastnet Rock x Episode by Scenic (IRE)

Profiler

A classic looking filly with strength across a beautifully-balanced frame. She has the depth in her girth needed to drive a sustained run to the line along with the muscle and power to deliver a deadly turn-of-foot. No obvious weaknesses apart from a preference for drier tracks.

Strengths

  • Adaptable during the race
  • Good Acceleration in the run home
  • Genuine
  • Reliable

Weaknesses

  • Prefers Dry Tracks

Her profile says it all. A rare combination of strength, speed, stamina and a "will to win" sets Champions apart from the rest.

First Seal has all the ingredients to shine over the Autumn Carnival, starting with the Coolmore Classic this weekend.
