The Battler's Big Value

Published: 13 Mar 2015

End of an era - Richie Callander and the rest of the TVN team finish up today

It's a big day out at Rosehill Gardens today. The Autumn Carnival kicks off with a bang, with some serious gallopers competing for Group One glory.

And don't forget, the TVN team are winding up after bringing the colour of racing straight from the track for the last couple of years. Big Richie will make it a grand finale in Sydney.

Competitive racing, good fields and lots of chances means there are sure to be some winners at a big price.

The Race Guide's Bookie Battler has a candid look at a few roughies with a hope.

Melbourne - Spillway $10

"He's getting one more chance from me. Reckon a few will get too excited about the Melbourne Cup winner, so I'm loving the value on this swooper."

Fights hard - Ryker resumes for in-form trainer Gai Waterhouse

Race 3 - Rageese $12

"This guy is the sneaky one at big odds. Berry, Hawkes and big value sounds good to me."

Race 4 - Mowgli $14

"I backed her last start and I'm staying on for the ride. Needs a lot of luck and a gem from Clipperton."

Could flash late - Mowgli is good enough to run on and win

Race 7 - Tinto $15

"This girl is a steam train in the home straight, I wouldn't want to get in her way. Having crack at those odds."

Race 9 - Spy Decoder $14

"Battled hardened pony that has a good barrier and a decent dose of mongrel. Like that mix."

Bit of mongrel - Spy Decoder is a tough type of galloper
