  • Opinion (Race 7) – rider T Angland stated that he had no concerns with his mount's action during its preliminary and, when Hartnell reared in the barriers, Opinion was also unloaded and passed fit by the Club's Veterinary Officer. He added he became concerned with the gelding's action near the 1200m and, therefore, near the 1000m he pulled Opinion to the outside of runners and retired his mount from the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr C Waller reported there had not been any soundness issues leading into the race and had pleased the stable since its second placing at Rosehill a fortnight ago in the Sky High Stakes. He undertook to report back to the Stewards on the immediate racing future of Opinion following a full veterinary check to be conducted on Monday, 30 March 2015. Urine and blood swab samples were taken from Opinion. The inquiry was adjourned pending receipt of the stable veterinary report.

  • Takedown – near the 200m ran out abruptly when placed under pressure.

RACE 2: theraces.com.au Handicap 1400m

  • Corryvreckan – after initially being bumped by Bold Circle, which shifted in on jumping away, was then checked and got its head up when tightened for room between Sure And Fast, which shifted out slightly, and Bold Circle.
  • Sure And Fast – near the 1200m had to be steadied away from the heels of Bold Circle (C Williams) which, when improving to the inside of the heels of Boss Lane, shifted in when not clear. C Williams was reprimanded and told that he must give sufficient clearance when crossing.
  • All Cerise – near the 1100m had to be steadied away from the heels of Frespanol. Near the 1000m, when the pace slackened, had to be checked away from the heels of Bold Circle. Rounding the home turn had to be steadied away from the heels of Sure And Fast to continue into clear running.
  • Hollywood Bound – approaching the 1000m, when inclined to lay in, had to be steadied when tightened for room by Frespanol (T Clark), which shifted in slightly. T Clark was reprimanded and advised to ensure he leaves sufficient racing room for runners to his inside. Near the 500m had to be steadied when Frespanol shifted out.
  • Medcaut – made contact with Boss Lane for some distance passing the 700m, as Medcaut maintained its position one off the fence behind Aghamore.
  • Boss Lane – rider S Clipperton stated, after being in a contest for a position with the eventual winner, Medcaut, in the middle stages, coupled with its big weight, were the principal factors in the gelding's poor performance today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off-hind coronet. Trainer Mr R Quinton agreed with S Clipperton that, second up today, the gelding may not have run out a strong 1400m. He undertook to report back the results of a vet check to be conducted at the stables on Monday, 30 March 2015.

RACE 3: Hyland Race Colours Doncaster Prelude (Group 3) 1500m

  • Rudy – apprentice L Tarrant explained that he anticipated making a run to the outside of Bull Point coming to the home turn, however, when Spy Decoder hung out, he had to steady his mount away from that runner's heels and alter course back to the inside. He added, under its top weight of 58 kilograms, Rudy failed to quicken and he was not disappointed with the way the gelding ran to the line in the circumstances.
  • Snippets Land – arrived late on course, due to a float breakdown. Inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. When questioned why he remained on the back of Leebaz rounding the home turn when the eventual winner, Excess Knowledge, improved to his outside, B Shinn stated that he was endeavouring to give his mount as easy a run as possible, as he had done work to race closer to the lead, was up in distance and class and, moreover, because he was following the favourite, Leebaz, which he expected would quicken into the straight. Whilst the Stewards acknowledged that the tactic had resulted in Snippets Land only being briefly held up, before coming to the inside of Leebaz on straightening, B Shinn was cautioned and told that he is expected to take runs as they present and that, in their view, it was a low percentage option not to take the opportunity to position his mount to the outside of the heels of Leebaz entering the straight.
  • Excess Knowledge - arrived late on course, due to a float breakdown. Inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start.
  • Rudy - arrived late on course, due to a float breakdown. Inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start.
  • San Diego – slow to begin.
  • Malice – jumped awkwardly and laid in shortly after the start.
  • Spy Decoder – laid out rounding the home turn when being steadied away from the heels of Snippets Land. Rider C Williams reported that his mount overraced and hung out throughout the event, however, was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable foreman Mr E Cummings agreed with rider C Williams regarding the racing manners of Spy Decoder and undertook to report back on the gelding's future race plans.

RACE 4: Ascend Sales Trophies Emancipation Stakes (Group 2) 1500m

  • Madam Gangster – slow to begin.
  • Mahara – jumped awkwardly.
  • Peggy Jean – rider T Berry stated, after beginning awkwardly, the mare never travelled throughout the event, was inclined to overrace and got its head up in the early and middle stages. He added, in his opinion, the racing pattern today of making ground from back in the field had not been to Peggy Jean's advantage and it may not have backed up from its unplaced run at Flemington on 8 March 2015. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr G Ryan undertook to report on how the filly pulled up and the future race plans.
  • My Sabeel – trainer Mr K Moses reported the mare to be lame in front. Mr Moses was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to My Sabeel racing again.

RACE 5: Irresistible Pools & Spas Star Kingdom Stakes (Group 3) 1200m

  • Generalife – jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
  • Tahitian Black – overraced in the middle stages. Hampered when Hot Snitzel jumped awkwardly and shifted out.
  • Lucky Lago – taken wider around the home turn when Sidestep shifted out to improve around Decision Time.
  • Target In Sight – approaching the 200m had to be directed away from the heels of Rain Affair to continue into clear running.
  • Hot Snitzel – inconvenienced when Target In Sight shifted in under pressure close to the finish.
  • Sidestep – rider N Hall reported, after being slow to begin, the horse overraced throughout the early and middle stages and was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off.
  • Decision Time – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 6: VineryStud stakes (Group 1) 2000m

  • Thunder Lady – trainer Mr J Sargent advised that the filly had sustained a possible spider bite early in the week, which resulted in a rash developing on the shoulder. Thunder Lady was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start.
  • Winx – rider T Berry viewed the stewards' patrol footage prior to the declaration of correct weight to ascertain if there were grounds to object against the 3rd placegetter, Thunder Lady, and/or 4th placegetter, Ballet Suite. When he was satisfied that there was not and the Stewards were similarly satisfied, correct weight was declared. Checked near the 300m when tightened for room between Thunder Lady, which was inclined to lay in, and Ballet Suite, which was attempting to improve around the heels of Set Square, as that filly was giving ground. Both T Angland (Thunder Lady) and K McEvoy (Ballet Suite) were reprimanded. When questioned regarding his riding from the 500m and as to whether he should have directed Winx to the extreme outside around Thunder Lady to continue into clear running, T Berry stated that he endeavoured to save ground by following the favourite, First Seal, as he was aware that runners had not been making ground coming from back and wide. He added, had he not sustained interference near the 250m, he would have been able to follow First Seal through, however, was then obliged to alter course to the outside of Thunder Lady to continue into clear running.
  • Adrift – bumped at the start by Winx, which was taken in by First Seal.
  • Heavens Above – bumped by Adrift shortly after the start and then had to be checked off the heels of Slightly Sweet.
  • Set Square – approaching the 150m, when weakening, had to be steadied when tightened for room between Ballet Suite, which was taken in by Thunder Lady, and Sweet And Speedy, which shifted out under pressure. Rider C Williams stated that the filly was stirred up prior to the race. He said that, from his wide barrier, he went forward and settled off pace, however, in his opinion, the filly may be better ridden more quietly so as to finish its race off. He added that Set Square was under pressure from the 500m and was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr C Maher undertook to report back on the future race plans for the filly. Mr Maher was asked to provide a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
  • First Seal – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the appearance of blood in the nearside nostril only. Trainer Mr J Thompson was advised the filly must gallop over 1000m and be passed by the Stewards prior to its next start.
  • Wildenstein - M Walker will be interviewed regarding his use of the whip on the filly in this race.

RACE 7: The BMW (Group 1) 2400m

  • Hartnell – which reared and briefly got both forelegs over the front gates in the barrier, was unloaded, inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Steadied near the 1000m when Opinion was pulled out of the race.
  • Protectionist – jumped awkwardly.
  • To The World – slow to begin. Bumped by Hartnell at the 600m, as that runner improved around Beaten Up. Laid out under pressure approaching the 200m, resulting in its rider, N Hall, pulling the whip through to his left hand near the 150m, in order to correct the racing manners of To The World.
  • Silent Achiever – bumped by Extra Zero at the entrance to the straight.
  • Hampton Court – when questioned, T Berry stated, with blinkers on today, the only riding instruction he was given by trainer Mrs G Waterhouse was to not lead on the colt. He added, from his wide barrier, he began particularly well and, when there was a lack of pace shown by runners drawn to his inside, without unduly pressuring the horse, he was able to take up a more forward position to sit outside the early leader, Fast Dragon, passing the winning post on the first occasion.
  • Opinion – rider T Angland stated that he had no concerns with his mount's action during its preliminary and, when Hartnell reared in the barriers, Opinion was also unloaded and passed fit by the Club's Veterinary Officer.

RACE 8: Tulloch Stakes (Group 2) 2000m

  • Hauraki – jumped awkwardly and shifted in.
  • Rhodin Drive – hampered when Hauraki shifted in at the start. Near the 1100m, when the pace steadied, had to be checked away from the heels of Saddler's Flame, shifted out and hampered High Midnight.
  • Quick Strike – slow to begin. Crowded shortly after the start between General Zabeel and Caped Crusader.
  • General Zabeel – overraced in the early stages.
  • Blademeister – hung out rounding the home turn.
  • Diamond Valores – held up in the early part of the straight when Caped Crusader commenced to weaken.
  • Caped Crusader – rider A Hyeronimus stated that the gelding, stepping up in distance and in class from its last start win at Randwick on 11 March 2015, travelled well in the run when able to dictate terms, however, was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Ruling Dynasty – co-trainer Mr J Cummings advised the Stewards that, because it had drawn the outside barrier, the tactics on the colt would be left up to rider T Berry. T Berry stated that, after only jumping fairly, he felt there was no opportunity to push forward without getting caught wide in the run around the first turn and elected, therefore, to cross and race back in the field. He stated that he placed Ruling Dynasty under pressure from the 600m and the colt finished the race off well.

RACE 9: The Sunday Telegraph Neville Sellwood Stakes (Group 3) 2000m

  • Foreteller – crowded shortly after the start when Destiny's Kiss was taken in by Dear Demi. As a result Foreteller had to be steadied off the heels of Pornichet.
  • Disclaimer – held up rounding the home turn.
  • Himalaya Dream – rider T Berry stated that, although the gelding travelled well in the run, he was under pressure from as far out as the 600m and pulled up quickly after finishing the race. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes stated, although Himalaya Dream was up in distance and class, it was most disappointing and the stable will now re-assess the future race plans for the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. The inquiry was adjourned pending receipt of the stable veterinary examination.
  • Singing Flame – rider G Schofield was spoken to regarding weighing in 600 grams more than the weight that he weighed out. G Schofield was cautioned in overweight and told that his actions placed him close to being in breach of AR145.
