Best in the Yard - Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation Race Day
Published: 12 May 2014
The best in the yard from the Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation Race Day came from Race 8, with the Anthony Cummings trained "As Needed" standing out as a high quality type against his BM 75 opposition in the Blackwoods New Catalogue Handicap over 1500m. At only his fourth start he presented in a beautiful and relaxed fashion, looking like he had been to the races many times before.
He has great scope in his frame, a well-balanced gelding with good strength and definition. It looks as though he can progress to better races and longer distances in the future.
Breeding
It is hard to fault the pedigree, being a cross between the successful stallion Stratum, a son of Redoute's Choice, and the six-time winning mare Matras. Both showed good talent early in their career, with Stratum a Golden Slipper winner before retiring after his three year old season. Matras was bred from the blue-blood cross of Zabeel and a Danehill mare (Tropical Affair).
The Result
1st (0.8 lengths), beating First Class Ticket and Paederos. Starting price $2.25.
