The Profiler - Wet Track Winners

The Championships finally get under-way on Easter Monday after the torrential rain over the last few days.

Organisers will be relieved to see the weather make a complete turnaround, with Sydney basking in Easter Sunday sunshine. It's been an almost 'Melbourne-like' reversal from the grey and gloomy skies yesterday.

Thankfully the races will go ahead, but the heavy track conditions will still play a huge part in deciding the winner of each race.

The Race Guide's Analyst team has a look at the 3 key factors that will make the difference between a hard-luck story and a collect.

1 - Your Horse Handles the Track

Obviously! But that's not just any horse with good wet track stats.

Testing conditions at Royal Randwick can often favour LEANER, ATHLETIC and EFFICIENT types. On a HEAVY track, the BIGGER and more POWERFUL horses can struggle to find their rhythm. Many of them lack the turn-of-foot in the wet that makes them so deadly on a firm track.

Horses like INAUGURATION, EXPLOSIVE SCENE, ROSES SONG, HOLLYWOOD NELL, MISHANI HONCHO, MONGOLIAN KHAN and ZARZALI are all the types that could 'skip' through the mud.

Light and lean - Mishani Honcho and Mongolian Khan are the types to handle a heavy track

2 - Your Horse is Tough and Genuine

Most races are a walk in the park compared to what the horses will be asked to do on Monday.

After the pressure goes on at the home turn and the horses climb the Randwick 'rise' soon after, only the most TOUGH and GENUINE gallopers will be left in the contest.

Horses like LOCAL AFFAIR, PHRASES, WITHOUT A SHADOW, TARQUIN, RULING DYNASTY, LANKAN RUPEE, SACRED FALLS, ROYAL DESCENT, HALLOWED CROWN, NINTH LEGION and MAASTRICHT are the types that could fight their way through the mud for a win.

Tough gallopers - Royal Descent and Lankan Rupee are both genuine types

3 - Your Horse is Fit

A pretty simple one, you'll need your galloper to be fit and ready to run a race.

On a carnival day like The Championships, most horses will be ready to go, but keep an eye on the mounting yard and the market just in-case.

Fit and ready to go - Hooked and Ready for Victory aren't obvious wet trackers, but they both shone in the yard
