Top 5 Early Insights @ Royal Randwick

Published: 16 Apr 2015

Can he win again? - Chautauqua will need conditions in his favour on Saturday

The full Race Guides for the last day of the Royal Randwick carnival will be on-line Friday at 12pm, including Form, Comments and The Race Guide's Profiler for each galloper.

Getting the edge is what it is all about, helping you to know if your horse is the right one for the conditions on the day.

Until then, The Race Guide's Analyst team have listed their Top 5 Early Insights.

Get the big value with CrownBet - Bonus Bets across 4 states this weekend

1 - Inside Running

The rail is out and the track is drying, a recipe for an ON RAILS bias at Royal Randwick, with the peak of the camber near the inside.

DUBLIN LASS could take advantage from barrier 1 in RACE 1.

She's a mare that loves to sprint from the box seat.

Prime position - Dublin Lass could get the perfect run this weekend at Randwick

2 - Not The Type?

There is no doubting ODYSSEY MOON is a very genuine galloper that always gives his all, but when you line him up in the CHAMPAGNE STAKES there are some others with better credentials over the Randwick mile.

THE BARRISTER, TAKEDOWN, TARQUIN and STREET RAPPER all have more scope to succeed over longer distances.

More scope - Tarquin looks the type that will relish 1600m

3 - The Magic Turn-of-Foot

Plenty of gallopers get characterised as having a great 'turn-of-foot' and often the description is off the mark.

The Race Guide's Analyst team profiles each galloper across multiple factors, including a horse's acceleration and finishing strength.

MALICE and KOURKAM both have the rare gift of a genuine sprint finish in the JAPAN RACING ASSOCIATION PLATE. They will be chasing a one-paced favourite in LEEBAZ and could get the prize.

Good sprint finish - Malice is a middle-distance galloper with a turn-of-foot

4 - Out of His Hands

The ALL AGED STAKES is an epic contest between some of the best short-course gallopers in Australia. Leading early markets is the Hawkes galloper CHAUTAUQUA, who stormed home to win the TJ Smith last start.

He's a serious sprinter, but there is one big risk for punters.

As a type that's not adaptable (gets back), he'll need the track bias and tempo in his favour. Waiting until Saturday to check conditions before a bet would be a wise move.

Get the big value - CrownBet are offering a bonus bet if your horse runs 2nd in the All Aged Stakes

Swooper - The connections of Chautauqua will be hoping there is no 'on-pace bias'

5 - Big Run for the Money

The HALL MARK STAKES sees the popular OUR BOY MALACHI resume before a Brisbane Winter campaign.

He's a strong speedster, but he'll have to hold off a group of well-performed sprinters in the run home.

None more so than BIG MONEY, who has the potent mix of a good top speed and the ability to maintain a long run to the line.

Keeps coming - Big Money takes off on the turn and sustains his surge
