Horse of the Week: Major Major

Published: 27 Apr 2015

Too easy - Major Major trots back to scale after a dominant display

Wow! Anyone who was watching Royal Randwick on the weekend had to be impressed by the win of MAJOR MAJOR.

OK, it wasn't the strongest race in the world and he only carried a 'postage stamp' weight, but he did beat two tough and genuine Waller stayers by an ever widening 7.5 lengths!

He came as a tried horse in 2014 to up-and-coming Kiwi trainer Bryce Heys, the ex-foreman for John O'Shea before he took on the top job at Godolphin.

Judging by this win, you wouldn't be surprised to see young Bryce and his new stable star jump on a float up to Queensland soon.

Daylight second - The margin back to the rest of the field on Saturday was huge!

  • He was trained by ex-trainer Grahame Begg until the end of 2013
  • His dam, Private Steer, won the G1 Doncaster Handicap, G1 Stradbroke and G1 All Aged Stakes
  • Bryce Heys' old boss, John O'Shea, was the trainer of Major Major's dam Private Steer
  • The progeny of Encosta De Lago often take time to develop to their best level, so there may be more to come!

Back to the winner's stall soon? - Hopefully it's not another two years before Major Major wins again...
