Vet Notes

Hard Merchandise (Race 2) – a post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover.
Neutron Dame (Race 2) – a post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have been galloped on below the off-side hock and to the near side heel.
Queen Misty (Race 4) – a post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a poor post race recovery. Trainer Mr L Bridge was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Queen Misty racing again.
Wide Spread Panic (Race 4) – a post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be 2/5 lame in the near hind leg. Co Trainer Mr A Bott was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Wide Spread Panic racing again.
Only Tiger (Race 5) – a post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its off-hind plate.
Popular (Race 6) – a post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be 2/5 lame in the near hind leg. Stable representative Mr D Beadman was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Popular racing again.
Karavali (Race 7) – a post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to be recover and to have aggravated speedy cuts behind.

Penalties & Fines

K O'Hara, rider of You Make Me Smile pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under AR83(a) for making an inappropriate comment as she left the Stewards room following an inquiry in this race. K O'Hara was fined the sum of $1,000. Acting under the provisions of AR196(4) Stewards stayed $500 for a period of 12 months. K O'Hara was advised that her conduct at recent inquiries had been less than satisfactory and she must conduct herself in a professional manner in similar circumstances.
C Brown, rider of Bombarding) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 600m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of You Make Me Smile which carried that horse onto Sparkly Star which lost its rightful running and had to be steadied. C Brown license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday 12 July 2018 and to expire on Wednesday 25 July 2018 on which day he may ride. When questioned B Avdulla stated that the horse which was up in grade today lost momentum after suffering interference approaching the 600m and thereafter performed below expectations.

Summary of Races

RACE 1: #Theraces Handicap 1200m

Marmaris – From its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Thinkin’ Big – Near the 700m Thinkin' Big was eased to avoid the heels of Sunday Poet (W Costin) which shifted in when not clear. W Costin was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Helaku which was following had to checked in consequence. Near the 500m was steadied when racing close to the heels of Irish Songs. Approaching and rounding the home turn was eased to avoid the heels of Irish Songs which shifted in when not quite clear.
Albert’s No Pussy – Rounding the home turn was bumped by Irish Songs. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider B Avdulla stated that after being left racing wide and without cover in a prominent position at the 600m his mount came under pressure, however failed to respond. B Avdulla did state that he attributed the gelding's poor performance also due to the track conditions. Trainer Mr K Lees expressed the view that the gelding did not race competitively today due to it travelling wide and without cover. He added that he will assess the post race condition of the gelding in the days subsequent at which time a decision regarding its immediate racing future will be made. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Helaku – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages, got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to obtain a position with cover. Blast which was following had to be restrained from the heels of Helaku as a consequence near the 600m. On straightening proved somewhat reluctant to shift to the outside of Albert's No Pussy.
Irish Songs – Raced fiercely for some distance after the 800m and got its head up when being steadied, the gelding had an inclination to lay out making the turn at the 600m. When questioned App J Van Overmeire stated that rounding the home turn he became aware that a rider may have been in some difficulty when racing close to his heels and for this reason he shifted out marginally to ensure that runners had sufficient running room which ultimately enabled Thinkin' Big an opportunity to improve to his inside. App J Van Overmeire was advised that having regard to the circumstances, namely that Thinkin' Big was racing behind him and that any interference to that runner was remote, he should have endeavoured to race directly outside of Sunday Poet and that he would be expected in future to ride more competitively.
Kashiwa – Slow to begin. When questioned rider T Clark explained that early in the straight he considered shifting to a position behind the eventual winner Helaku however as Rock Zone was positioned to his outside he was unable to execute that maneuverer as he was not clear of Rock Zone to shift. He added therefore he elected in the circumstances to pursue an opportunity to improve to the inside of Albert's No Pussy, however was unable to secure clear running until approaching the 200m.
Rock Zone – Began awkwardly, shifted in and was steadied to avoid the heels of Marmaris. From its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Mizzy – Slow to begin. For a short distance after the 400m raced in restricted room to the inside of Sunday Poet. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider A Adkins explained that his mount travelled satisfactorily behind the leader and after shifting to the inside of Sunday Poet early in the straight he commenced to improve, however after being briefly tightened approaching the 300m his mount did not sustain its momentum, weakening noticeably over the final 150m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 2: TAB Highway Handicap 1200m

I Am Impressed – Was restrained from the heels of Roman Typhoon after the 700m.
Ribs – Joining the course proper near the 900m was hampered when Hand Merchandise shifted out abruptly.
Nicconita – Was bumped on jumping by Highway Sixtysix which began awkwardly and shifted out. From its outside barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Made the turn at the 600m awkwardly and was checked from the heels of Neutron Dame. Again had to be checked at the 500m to avoid the heels of Neutron Dame. Nicconita then experienced some difficulty obtaining clear running prior to straightening.
Hard Merchandise – Was inclined to hang out for the majority of the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover.
Roman Typhoon – Slow to begin. Near the 250m App J Van Overmeire accidently dropped his whip. Over the final 30m Roman Typhoon raced in restricted room between Jounama and Highway Sixtysix (B Shinn) which got its head on the side and shifted out under pressure, and as result close to the winning post Roman Typhoon had to be eased. B Shinn was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Neutron Dame – Near the 1100m was eased when tightened for room between Hand Merchandise which shifted out slightly and Ribs (A Hyeronimus) which shifted in when not clear. As the Stewards were of the view that the shift from Ribs in isolation was minimal they considered the appropriate course of action was to advise A Hyeronimus to ensure his fellow riders have sufficient racing room wherever possible. Near the 500m Roman Typhoon shifted to the outside of Hand Merchandise and in doing so brushed Neutron Dame, which carried that horse wider until straightening. Inside the 400m Neutron Dame was reluctant to maintain its position and lost ground between Roman Typhoon and Jounama. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have been galloped on below the off-side hock and to the near side heel.
Jounama – Near the 800m commenced to race keenly and became awkwardly placed on the heels of Neutron Dame which itself was steading from the heels of Ribs. As a result Jounama then shifted out and raced without cover. Jounama then commenced to lay out when left racin wide and without cover from that point.

RACE 3: Randwick Mayor’s Cup 1100m

K O'Hara pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under AR83(a) for making an inappropriate comment as she left the Stewards room following an inquiry in this race. K O'Hara was fined the sum of $1,000. Acting under the provisions of AR196(4) Stewards stayed $500 for a period of 12 months. Revenire – Slow to begin. When questioned rider T Angland stated he had been asked to ride the horse prominently if possible today. He said that however in the early stages his mount was unable to match the early speed and as he was unable to maintain a position despite his efforts to the inside of Envy Of All, he allowed that runner to cross him whereby he settled slightly further back in the small field.
Envy Of All – Near the 800m was restrained from the heels of You Make Me Smile (K O'Hara) which shifted in when not quite clear. K O'Hara was advised to exercise more care when crossing runners in future.
You Make Me Smile – In the early and middle stages raced fiercely.
Marishka – Joining the course proper near the 900m was steadied to avoid the heels of Envy Of All (B Shinn) which shifted in when not quite clear, B Shinn was advised to exercise more care. Stewards were satisfied that in these circumstances that the racing manners of Envy OF All which was racing keenly and got its head up contributed to the incident. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-Trainer Mr Paul Snowden advised that Marishka would now be retried.
Sparkly Star – Slow begin. C Brown (Bombarding) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 600m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of You Make Me Smile which carried that horse onto Sparkly Star which lost its rightful running and had to be steadied. C Brown license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday 12 July 2018 and to expire on Wednesday 25 July 2018 on which day he may ride. RACE 4: Half Yearly Membership Mile 1600m

Medaille – When questioned rider T Angland stated that his mount was commencing to lose touch with the field after the 800m which obliged him to ride the mare vigorously in an endeavour to maintain his position directly outside Queen Misty. He added that Medaille did not respond as he had hoped and weakened noticeably in the straight. On straightening was crowded for room and made contact with Touch Of Mink (A Adkins) as that runner shifted out to obtain clear running. During this incident Touch Of Mink became unbalanced and shifted out further. A Adkins was advised to exercise more care. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Oklahoma Girl – Slow to begin.
Touch Of Mink – For some distance after the 600m raced in restricted room to the inside of Medaille and made contact with that runner on a number of occasions as Touch Of Mink endeavoured to obtain a position outside Queen Misty.
Queen Misty – A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a poor post race recovery. Trainer Mr L Bridge was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Queen Misty racing again.
Sepoy Acheva – After beginning only fairly was shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Sepoy Acheva had a tendency to lay in when contacted on the hindquarters by Medaille upon entering the straight.
Wide Spread Panic – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be 2/5 lame in the near hind leg. Co Trainer Mr A Bott was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Wide Spread Panic racing again.

RACE 5: Winter Racing Handicap 2400m

Plymouth Road – Rider A Hyeronimus stated that his mount was unable to lead today however travelled satisfactorily behind Diamond Star Halo until approaching the home turn. He added that he was still confident Plymouth Road would perform competitively at this time however the gelding blundered on several occasions after the 450m, became unbalanced and weakened considerably in the run home. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. As the Stewards deemed the performance to be unacceptable trainer Mr M Smith was advised that Plymouth Road would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
It’s A Silvertrail – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Hand It In – Began only fairly and was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. In the middle stages commenced to race fiercely and was shifted out which ultimately resulted in the gelding travelling wide and without cover from the 400m.
Nahuel – Stable representative Mr H Black was interviewed regarding the tactics adopted on Nahuel today, with reference to the horse settling at the rear of the field. Stewards will interview trainer Mr R Freedman who was not present today in respect to what was prima facie, a change of tactics.
Ombudsman – Stewards permitted C Brown to ride half a kilogram over its allotted weight of 53kg.
Only Tiger – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its off-hind plate.

RACE 6: TAB Rewards Handicap 1400m

Ataraxia – From its outside barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Island Missile – From its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. When racing keenly was steadied from the heels of Popular near the 600m. For some distance after the 400m laid out and during this period proved difficult for B Shinn to place the gelding under pressure.
Mr Haussmann – Slow to begin.
Popular – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be 2/5 lame in the near hind leg. Stable representative Mr D Beadman was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Popular racing again.
High Power – From its outside barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Excelsior – Near the 1200m got its head up when allowing Oria to cross.
Seahampton – From its outside barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Mofara – Raced keenly in the early stages and was steadied when racing close to the heels of Popular. Whilst continuing to be difficult to settle became awkwardly placed on the heels of Popular near the 600m and was shifted out. Approaching and rounding the home turn was carried wider by Seahampton as that runner sought clear running. Near the 300m Mofara which was giving ground was hampered when Seahampton (T Clark) shifted out. T Clark was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

RACE 7: Wallaby Cup 1800m

Karavali – When questioned App S Weatherley stated that he had anticipated travelling in a mid-field position. He added that however in the early stages after beginning well he elected to allow Karavali to improve as he was unable to find cover which ultimately resulted in the mare settling in second position. He said when ridden in this manner the mare failed to close the race off. The evidence provided by App S Weatherley was confirmed by the patrol footage and in the circumstances his explanation regarding the horse racing contrary to its normal pattern was accepted. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to be recover and to have aggravated speedy cuts behind.
Chatelard – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider B Avdulla stated that he was obligated to travel at the rear of the field to obtain cover from its wide barrier. He said having regard to the long-sustained run he endured from the 500m and that the gelding was up in grade he was not overly disappointed with Chatelard performing below expectations. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Carzoff – In the straight got its head on the side and shifted ground outwards over the final 100m.
Just Shine – Near the 1400m improved onto the heels of Carzoff and had to be restrained.
King Viv – On jumping was bumped by Carzoff which shifted out. When questioned J Ford stated that he had anticipated racing prominently but he had been instructed to deploy this without making use of King Viv. He added that after beginning only fairly he endeavoured to maintain a position outside Dagny but when that runner did not shift into a position next to the running rail and it became apparent that he would be placed wide and without cover, he eased his mount which resulted in King Viv settling further back than he anticipated.
Vaucluse Bay – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Monasterio – Shortly after the start was crowded and had to be steadied when Veladero began awkwardly and shifted in.
Curragh – From the outside barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Was held up approaching and rounding the home turn. Near the 300m whilst continuing to be unable to obtain clear running was checked when disappointed for clear running between Vaucluse Bay which rolled out marginally and Dagny (J McDonald) which shifted in. J McDonald was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

RACE 8: TAB.COM.AU Handicap 1300m

Pelethronius – From a wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover throughout.
Redouble – From a wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Approaching and rounding the home turn was carried wider into a position without cover.
Philosophy – Had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 300m where it shifted to the outside of Redouble to improve.
Invictus Prince – From the outside barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. When questioned rider B Shinn stated that the gelding which was having its first start in Australia displayed an awkward head carriage for most of the event. He stated that as a result Invictus Prince, which was closing the race off strongly proved difficult to negotiate a passage between Brook Magic and Best Guess after the 300m. He added for this reason approaching the 100m he elected to shift to the outside of Best Guess which he believed would enable him to have greater opportunity to improve over the latter stages.
Brook Magic – A post race veterinary examination which weakened over the final 50m revealed no abnormalities.
Live To Dream – From the outside barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. For some distance approaching the 800m raced close to the heels of Petrossian and as result the mare got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied. Was held up rounding the home turn.

RACE 9: Australian Turf Club Sprint 1000m

Nictock – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider B Shinn stated that Nictock performed below expectations due to the track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Samadoubt – Began awkwardly.
Fanning – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities
Niccolance – Became fractious after being loaded into the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary officer and was passed suitable to start. Slow to begin. Near the 500m raced in restricted room between Puppet Master and Rebel Miss.
Tip Top – Began awkwardly. Held up when unable to obtain clear running until approaching the 300m whereby it was continually shifted in to improve.
All Carisma – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Puppet Master – Rider C Brown reported after the race he believed something may have been amiss with the gelding and for this reason eased his mount down over the concluding stages. Although the post race veterinary examination of Puppet Master revealed no obvious abnormalities, stable representative L Wadsworth was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
Rebel Miss – Near the 600m whilst racing keenly had to be steadied when travelling close to the heels of She Knows. Rebel Miss was then held up for clear running until the 300m whereby it shifted to the inside of All Carisma which resulted in Niccolance being inconvenienced and carried in onto Puppet Master which was eased.
Mega Mall – Slow to begin.
