Vet Notes

Highway Sixtysix (Race 2) – After being loaded into the barriers became fractious, got its head down and became cast. As such Highway Sixtysix was declared a late withdrawal at 12.13pm, acting on veterinary advice.
Petra Jewel (Race 2) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained an abrasion to the off-side hock and a puncture wound to the inside of the off-side hock. Trainer Ms J Clement advised that the mare would now be spelled.
Asterius (Race 3) – a postrace veterinary examination revealed Asterius to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised that the gelding would now incur the mandatory 3- month ban from racing under AR53A.
Bratislava (Race 5) – a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding on return to the enclosure was found to be making an abnormal upper respiratory sound and to have lost its off-hind plate. Trainer Mr J Cummings was advised that a veterinary clearance including an endoscopic examination would be required prior to Bratislava racing again.
Shiraz (Race 7) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its near fore plate.

Penalties & Fines

App R Hunt, rider of Monsieur Sisu pleaded guilty to charges under AR137A5(a)(ii) and AR137A5(a)(i) in that she used the whip on 9 occasions, two of which were consecutive prior to the 100m. App Hunt was subsequently fined the sum of $400. App R Hunt was reprimanded under AR137(b) for failing to ride out her mount Monsieur Sisu, placed fourth to the finish of the race. R Hunt pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 1500m she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear of Laussel which lost its rightful running and was checked. R Hunt's license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 22 July 2018 and to expire on Thursday 2 August 2018 on which day she may ride.
Ms A Neasham, stable representative of Al Galayel pleaded guilty to a charge under AR135A for failing to notify change of tactics within the 30 minutes before the running of the event. In assessing penalty Stewards took into consideration the relative circumstances and Ms Neasham was fined the sum of $500. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance Ms Neasham stated that the gelding did not appreciate the Sydney way of going particularly as it lead today. She indicated that the stable would now experiment with the gear on the gelding and undertook to report back on the post-race condition of Al Galayel in the days subsequent.
J Parkes, rider of Hiflyer – pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) of using the whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m with three of those being consecutive strikes. He was fined the sum of $400.
B Egan rider of Chamois Road pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he struck his mount on 9 occasions prior the 100m, 4 more than permitted. B Egan was fined the sum of $300. B Egan was reprimanded under AR91 for leaving the course without the permission of the Stewards.

Summary of Races

RACE 1: Australian Turf Club Handicap 1400m

Laburnum – Over the final 200m laid out under pressure.
Tactical Formation – Near the 1000m was steadied away from the heels of Master Ash (T Clark) which shifted in when not clear. T Clark was reprimanded and reminded to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
Nobu – When under pressure over the final 300m, laid out resulting in its rider S Weatherley changing his whip to the left hand near the 250m.
Rock Zone – After being slow to begin was steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide draw. In the early stages raced fiercely and for some distance near the 1200m was checked from the heels of Hostwin Epanoui. Rock Zone then continued to race fiercely for some distance thereafter.
Hostwin Epanoui – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start was steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide draw. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Plenty – Began awkwardly and got its head up at the start. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

RACE 2: TAB Highway Handicap 1100m

Highway Sixtysix – After being loaded into the barriers became fractious, got its head down and became cast. As such Highway Sixtysix was declared a late withdrawal at 12.13pm, acting on veterinary advice. Due to the incident the start was delayed by approximately 4 minutes. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Highway Sixtysix be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 12.13pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st) Roman Typhoon less 16c win and less 13c place 2 nd) Bon Allen less 27c place 3 rd) Rekindled Force less 10c place Trainer Mr D Williams was advised that Highway Sixtysix would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
Bon Allen – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Petra Jewel which was taken out onto Magic Beneteau.
Petra Jewel – When questioned rider M Weir stated that with the slow tempo the mare raced more forward then usual and this resulted in Petra Jewel being caught three wide and without cover for the majority of the event. She added in her view Petra Jewel may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained an abrasion to the off-side hock and a puncture wound to the inside of the off-side hock. Trainer Ms J Clement advised that the mare would now be spelled.
Roman Typhoon – Slow to begin. Near the 900m was steadied from the heels of Rekindled Force.
Lulu Raez – In the early stages shifted in away from Bon Allen and made contact with Rekindled Force on a number of occasions.
Dragoneight – Near the 900m after improving to the inside of Rekindled Force, had to be steadied when Rekindled Force was taken in by Lulu Raez (K Nisbet) which shifted in when not clear. K Nisbet was reprimanded and was advised that she must be sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future.
Magic Beneteau – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start.

RACE 3: #Theraces Handicap 1800m

Asterius – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding App S Weatherley stated that his instructions were to settle midfield and in the straight ensure Asterius was provided with clear racing room. He said that in the early stages with the slow early pace Asterius overraced, would not settle and was steadied from the heels of Laussel on a number of occasions. He added that approaching the home turn he elected to shift out to ride his mount in accordance with his instructions and after initially making some ground in the early part of the straight the gelding was disappointing in its failure to finish its race off. A postrace veterinary examination revealed Asterius to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised that the gelding would now incur the mandatory 3- month ban from racing under AR53A.
The Macallan – In the straight was inclined to shift ground and near the 200m shifted in slightly towards the heels of Jolly Honour whereby, rider J McDonald was obliged to stop riding and correct his mount.
Subban – From its wide draw was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start.
Monsieur Sisu – App R Hunt pleaded guilty to charges under AR137A5(a)(ii) and AR137A5(a)(i) in that she used the whip on 9 occasions, two of which were consecutive prior to the 100m. App Hunt was subsequently fined the sum of $400. App R Hunt was reprimanded under AR137(b) for failing to ride out her mount Monsieur Sisu, placed fourth to the finish of the race. R Hunt pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 1500m she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear of Laussel which lost its rightful running and was checked. R Hunt's license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 22 July 2018 and to expire on Thursday 2 August 2018 on which day she may ride.

RACE 4: Spring On Sale Sprint 1100m

Upscale – Shortly after the start was steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide draw.
In Times Of War – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the mare H Bowman stated that as he was aware the pace was genuine in the early stages he endeavoured to steady In Times Of War to sit off Alassio to attempt to reduce the early tempo. He stated that as he did so Alassio also steadied and this resulted in In Times Of War racing close to the leader, whereby it was inclined to race keenly before giving ground in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer representative Mr C Duckworth advised that the mare had pleased the stable since its last start win at the Gold Coast on 16 June 2018 and having regard to today's performance consideration would be given to In Times Of War being retired to stud. Mr Duckworth undertook to provide details on the future race plans of the mare. The matter was adjourned pending this advice from the stable.
Once More A Lady – On return to scale, rider B Avdulla stated that the mare, over the concluding stages, did not feel entirely fluent in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition on Once More A Lady in the days subsequent.
Alassio – When questioned regarding the performance, App R King stated that her mount was not suited by having some pressure placed upon it by In Times Of War throughout the early and middle stages. She added that with five weeks between runs Alassio was left without a finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. CoTrainer Mr A Bott advised that the mare had pleased leading into today's event and the stable was confident that it would race well. Mr Bott stated that whilst Alassio had been withdrawn from a number of races in the lead up to today this was due to the stable wanting to avoid rain effect surfaces. Mr Bott undertook to report back anything amiss with Alassio subsequent to the race.
And So It Goes – In the early part of the straight improved into a narrow run between Girl In A Million which was giving ground and Smart Amelia. When proceeding into the run And So It Goes was relucent to take the run shifted in away from Smart Amelia and proved difficult to ride. In addition, T Clark stated that And So It Goes proved difficult to ride out over the final 200m.
World Of Hope – Shortly after the start was steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide draw.
Duchess Pedrille – Shortly after the start was steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide draw.
Girl In A Million – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance App R Hunt stated the filly endured a comfortable run behind the leaders however when asked to improve in the straight did not finish the race off as expected. She added that she had some concern with the action of Girl In A Million in front. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr S Edmonds was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the filly prior to it racing again.

RACE 5: TAB Rewards Handicap 1200m

Bratislava – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding on return to the enclosure was found to be making an abnormal upper respiratory sound and to have lost its off-hind plate. Trainer Mr J Cummings was advised that a veterinary clearance including an endoscopic examination would be required prior to Bratislava racing again.
Level Eight – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the race.
Smartedge – After being slowly away shorty after was steadied when crowded between Pro Consul and Bratislava, both of which shifted ground. In the straight laid in and near the 200m proved difficult to shift to the outside of Star Of Monsoon to secure clear running.
Gadfly – Shortly after the start was steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide draw.
Paret – Shortly after the start was steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide draw. Approaching the first turn near the 900m commenced to race keenly and was steadied from the heels of Pro Consul.
Kotinos – Began awkwardly.

RACE 6: Sydney West App Handicap 2000m

Beijing Board – Near the 300m was inconvenienced when crowded between Sweet Victory and Braces, which after establishing a narrow run to the outside of Al Galayel was taken out by that runner.
Mutarakem – When questioned regarding the performance rider H Bowman stated that his mount pulled hard throughout the event and subsequently was not able to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Al Galayel – As the field was being loaded into the barriers Stewards received advice from stable representative Ms A Neasham representing trainer Mr C Maher, that Al Galayel would be ridden in a more forward position with the option to lead if the pace was genuine. Due to the late notice Stewards were not able to notify the change of tactics to the public. Ms Neasham pleaded guilty to a charge under AR135A for failing to notify change of tactics within the 30 minutes before the running of the event. In assessing penalty Stewards took into consideration the relative circumstances and Ms Neasham was fined the sum of $500. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance Ms Neasham stated that the gelding did not appreciate the Sydney way of going particularly as it lead today. She indicated that the stable would now experiment with the gear on the gelding and undertook to report back on the post-race condition of Al Galayel in the days subsequent.
Monasterio – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
Vaucluse Bay – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Raqeeq – After being slow to begin was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start from its wide draw. Raced keenly in the early stages.
Sweet Victory – In the early part of the straight raced tight between Screamarr and Beijing Board both of which shifted ground slightly which resulted in Sweet Victory not being able to be fully tested during this period. Sweet Victory was again not able to be fully tested when placed in restricted room between Screamarr and Braces near the 200m. Over the final 100m did not obtain clear running when placed close to the heels of Braces.
Romance Can Costa – Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between Mutarakem and Screamarr which was taken out by Monasterio.
Royal Stamp – Slow to begin.
Hypernicus – When questioned App B Ryan stated that his instructions were to be a little more forward today and anticipated taking up a midfield position. He added that after Hypernicus jumped well he was able to easily cross runners drawn to his inside and with a slow early pace raced more forward than intended.

RACE 7: Winter Stakes 1400m

Hiflyer – Prior to the declaration of correct weight, the Stewards identified from the inquiry room that rider J Parkes had struck his mount on 10 occasions prior to the 100m, inclusive of three consecutive strikes. When Stewards could not be satisfied that Hiflyer had gained an advantage that resulted in it finishing in 4th placing in the race, in accordance with AR168(2) they therefore declined to exercise their powers under AR137A(9) and did not proceed with a formal objection. At a subsequent inquiry J Parkes pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) of using the whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m with three of those being consecutive strikes. He was fined the sum of $400.
Testashadow – Raced wide and without cover for the majority the event.
Chamois Road – Rider B Egan pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he struck his mount on 9 occasions prior the 100m, 4 more than permitted. B Egan was fined the sum of $300. B Egan was reprimanded under AR91 for leaving the course without the permission of the Stewards.
Gold Symphony – Stewards permitted H Bowman to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 56.5kg.
Shiraz – Over the concluding stages could not be tested when placed close to the heels of Special Missile. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its near fore plate.
Mighty Lucky – Slow to begin and shortly after was crowded by Invinzabeel which shifted in. Had difficulty securing clear running until after the 300m.
Emperor’s Way – Slow to begin. Laid in in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Danish Twist – Steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide draw shortly after the start. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. When questioned regarding his riding making the home turn and in the straight App S Weatherley stated that his instructions were to ride the mare quietly and not to make a wide sweeping run on it. He added that from its wide barrier he was unable to obtain cover in the early and middle stages and was forced to race wide. He added that after Danish Twist commenced to make ground from the 800m he improved up behind Dark Eyes whereby at the 500m he elected to shift back to that runners inside to secure clear running. He further added that the decision to do this was on the basis that his instructions had been not to make a wide run on the mare. He further added that in the straight he was held up and was not able to secure clear running until the 100m. App Weatherly agreed with the Stewards that he had made an error in that he did not proceed with a run to the outside of Dark Eyes which would have afforded him clear and uninterrupted running in the straight.
Special Missile – Jumped awkwardly and shortly after the start blundered.
Sir Bacchus – Slow to begin.

RACE 8: Tab.com.au Handicap 1200m

Old North – Slow to begin (2L) and then was steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide draw.
Lofty’s Menu – Could not be tested over the final 50m when placed close to the heels of Flow.
Goodfella – Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 150m.
Easy Eddie – Began awkwardly. When being ridden along near the 250m shifted out abruptly hampering Flow resulting in A Adkins, rider of Easy Eddie, having to stop riding in the straight. Easy Eddie then shifted in again obliging A Adkins to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Top Striker – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Insensata – Shortly after the start was steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide barrier. Approaching the 200m was disappointed for clear running between Easy Eddie and Albumin when both runners shifted ground. Insensata was then shifted to the outside of Easy Eddie to secure clear running inside the 150m.
Drachenfels – Threw its head up as the start was affected and lost ground (3L).
Albumin – Near the 200m shifted out resulting in its rider J Ford having to stop riding and straighten when positioned close to heels of Easy Eddie when that runner shifted in.

RACE 9: ATC Owner Benefits Card Handicap 1500m

Green Sweet – Began awkwardly and shortly after was bumped on the hindquarter by Impavido which was crowded and taken out by Darci's Affair. Green Sweet was then steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after. Near the 150m was steadied and shifted to the inside of Voilier to continue into clear running.
Olympic Academy – Slow to begin. Near the 1200m when racing keenly was steadied from the heels of Nicci's Gold and shifted in and made contact with the running rail.
Darci’s Affair – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Cosmic Engine – Near the 250m was disappointing for clear running between High Mist and Darci's Affair which shifted out. Cosmic Engine then did not obtain clear running for some distance thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Dalmatia Prince – Raced keenly in the middle stages and near the 900m was steadied from the heels of So Spirited.
Hunter Jack – Passing the winning post was checked when crowded by Dalmatia Prince (App M Weir) which shifted in when not clear. M Weir was reprimanded under AR137(a).
Makeadane – Shortly after the start was steadied and shifted in behind runners from its wide barrier.
Nicci’s Gold – After being slow to begin was then hampered by Dalmatia Prince which shifted out. Had a tendency to lay in over the final 200m.
