Race-by-Race Summary

RACE 1 – Pryde's Easifeed Woodlands Stakes 1100m

  • Miss Antaeus – slow to begin.
  • Seagrove – jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 800m was crowded for room between Volante, which initially shifted out when overracing, and Harlem River which shifted in slightly.
  • Stilettoed Vixen – bounded on jumping and lost ground.
  • Helsingor – rounding the home turn was awkwardly placed and crowded for room when taken out by Lady Moochi, which shifted out and away from Harlem River when that horse improved. Was hampered at the 200m when briefly crowded by Lady Moochi, which was inclined to run out. When questioned regarding the performance rider T Angland could offer no tangible excuse. He said whilst the filly had trialed well in the clockwise direction leading into today's event, it did not concentrate during the run and was disadvantaged by the wide barrier and having to make a wide run from back in the field. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative P Muscutt agreed that the run was disappointing and said in his opinion Helsingor did not appreciate racing in the clockwise direction for the first time. He undertook to report back on how the filly pulls up.
  • Lady Moochi – shifted out rounding the home turn and continued to run out when racing greenly in the straight.
  • Moment Of Music – was bumped and taken wider on the home turn.

Trainer M O'gorman was asked to provide the veterinary and treatment records for the gelding. Rider M Bell was injured when dislodged from Big Wheels. After he was treated by the medical staff, Stewards did not take initial evidence from him. The matter was adjourned pending receipt of the necropsy report and assessment of the treatment records.
  • Husson Choice – rider K O'Hara stated that due to the solid pace in the early stages the gelding settled well back and was unsuited by the fast early pace. She added that she elected to save ground and tracked to the inside of Big Wheels, which broke down and fell near the 600m, which resulted in her mount losing momentum and several lengths. K O'Hara said that but for receiving this interference she felt her mount was travelling well to that point and would have figured in the finish, however when it was apparent that she could not make further ground she desisted from riding her mount out over the last 100 metres . A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Salford Art – rider T Berry stated that his mount travelled well until it hit a flat spot from the 600m until the home turn. He said his mount failed to run on when placed under pressure from this point. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative P Muscutt agreed with the assessment of rider T Berry that the mare did not improve from the 600m to the home turn, however in his opinion finished off the race fairly. Mr Muscutt undertook to report back on the future race plans for the mare and how it pulls up.

  • One Direction – rider T Berry reported that he had some concerns with the gelding's action throughout the run and he therefore desisted from riding his mount out when it was a beaten horse in the straight. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Mr Pfieffer was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to One Direction's next race start.

  • Onemorezeta – rider H Bowman stated that the filly whilst awkwardly placed between runners for some distance passing the 600m did not travel well at any stage. He said that in the straight he attempted to improve to the outside of Silent Rush (D Beasley) which shifted out in front of him, however his mount was not travelling well enough to take that run and in his opinion had come to the end of its preparation. D Beasley was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. A post race veterinary examination of Onemorezeta did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer K Lees stated that Onemorezeta had not backed up from recent racing on rain affected ground and would now be spelled.
  • Miss World – for some distance approaching the 200m was awkwardly placed behind Defender and had to be shifted to the outside to go forward.
  • Donelle – rider T Clark stated that the principal reason for the filly's disappointing performance was that it was obliged to cover additional ground in the run from its wide gate. He added that the filly's two wins at its more recent starts had been on soft going and Donelle may not have appreciated today's firmer track. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative R Singh agreed with the assessment of T Clark and said the view of the stable was that Donelle still lacked physical maturity and would be spelled.
  • Palazzo Pubblico – Trainer S Kavanagh was fined $50 under AR140A for presenting the filly in the mounting yard with a tongue tie, which was not part of its approved gear. Rider K O'Hara could offer no tangible excuse for the filly's disappointing performance. She said her mount travelled well in the run however did not respond to her riding and weakened over the final 200 metres. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post race recovery.

S Clipperton told the Stewards that the girth he had issued to trainer C Conners who was saddling up on behalf of his son trainer H Conners, had been changed. Mr C Conners advised that he had changed the girth. Mr Conners was reprimanded and advised that he must ensure he notifies the Stewards of any change of gear following the weigh.
  • Diademe – rider B Shinn reported that the mare slipped on jumping and he therefore got further back than had been anticipated. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Rose Of Choice – was checked passing the 1100m when Bound For Earth (B Avdulla) shifted in when insufficiently clear. B Avdulla pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137a for permitting his mount to shift in near the 1100m when insufficiently clear of Rose Of Choice which was checked and taken in crowding the running of My Sabeel and Fine Bubbles. B Avdulla's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 24 May 2015 and to expire on Sunday 31 May 2015. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account that Rose Of Choice had not raced genuinely throughout and overreacted to the tightening and that the consequential effects were at the lower end of the scale. Rider J Cassidy stated that after sustaining interference near the 1100m he was obliged to make a wide run on the mare and its condition gave out over the final 100 metres. He added that Rose Of Choice, which was resuming today, had not been assisted by an interrupted preparation leading into today's event due to the recent wet weather. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

  • Sure And Fast – was reluctant to improve to the outside of horses when inclined to lay in under pressure in the early part of the straight. Near the 150m was awkwardly placed between Kanguru and Bulletproof Monk. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Music Man – was steadied away from the heels of Conarchie (S Clipperton) which shifted out marginally under pressure. S Clipperton was advised to exercise more care.

RACE 8 – Arrowfield Ortensia Stakes 1100m

  • Hidden Warrior – slow to begin and then shortly thereafter was tightened for room between That's A Good Idea and Straight Gold which was taken out by Atmosherical.
  • Thump – crowded at the 150m when initially taken in by The Monstar (R Bensley). R Bensley was reprimanded and told to stop riding and straighten sooner than he did on this occasion. A short distance later when Target In Sight improved around the heels of the tiring Zaratone, Thump was further hampered in the incident.
  • Shamalia – rider G Schofield when questioned regarding the mare's performance said that the mare did not appreciate racing in restricted room for some distance in the middle stages. He further stated that he was held up on the heels of Straight Gold for some distance passing the 200m and then thereafter when changing course to the inside of that runner had to steady when Private Secretary (C Reith) shifted out. C Reith was advised to exercise more care. G Schofield added that in the circumstances given that the mare had a chequered passage he considered the run to be better than it appeared on face value. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Zaratone – rider K O'Hara was reminded of her obligation to ride her mounts out to the finish.
