A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr M Newnham reported that Ready Already will be spelled.

RACE 2: Your Local Greengrocer Handicap 1400m

  • Dupe Ém – hampered on jumping. Rider J Ford could offer no tangible excuse for the disappointing performance of the gelding. He added, whilst Dupe Ém appeared to get through the heavy track conditions, it did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure and he could only offer that the pace of the race and settling back in the field were not to the gelding's advantage. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr L Prior agreed with the thoughts of rider J Ford with respect to the tempo of the race not suiting Dupe Ém and undertook to report back.
  • Eisenhower - jumped awkwardly and shifted in at the start. Inclined to lay out over the concluding stages. Rider J Parr was reprimanded, after pleading guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used the whip in a forehand manner on six occasions prior to the 100m (one more than permitted).
  • Berry Delicious – disappointed for a run approaching the 200m between High Above, which shifted out slightly, and Better Not Blue. Berry Delicious then had to be directed back to the inside of runners approaching the 100m to find clear running.
  • Better Not Blue – when questioned, C Reith stated it had been his instructions to ride the gelding with cover. He added that Better Not Blue was unsuited by the slow early tempo and overraced in the early and middle stages. C Reith said that, whilst the gelding worked to the line fairly, in his opinion, the pace of the race was the principal factor in its performance.

RACE 3: Ardrossan Batlow Apples Handicap 2000m

  • Sebrina – jumped awkwardly. Near the 250m, when angling for a run between Swing Sensation and Reaper, did not fully establish itself into the run and had to be checked away from the heels of Swing Sensation (D Beasley), which shifted out under pressure. D Beasley was reprimanded and advised that he should have stopped riding and straightened his mount sooner than he did on this occasion, particularly as it had given him an inclination to shift at the top of the straight. When questioned regarding his tactics, particularly from the 600m when positioned to the inside of Arigold from that point, App. B Loy stated that he elected to follow the eventual winner, High Midnight, rounding the home turn and into the straight. He said that, when it did not appear a run would open up for him shortly after straightening, he positioned his mount to the outside of the heels of Rye and then he continued to shift out in an endeavour to find clear running between Swing Sensation and Reaper. He agreed that, although he did not fully establish Sebrina into clear running, his mount was checked when Swing Sensation shifted out and he, therefore, shifted back in order to continue into clear running, whereby Swing Sensation shifted back in, resulting in Sebrina being further hampered. Sebrina, therefore, did not obtain clear running until inside the 50m. The Stewards agreed with App. Loy that, had Swing Sensation not shifted out, he would have obtained clear running shortly after leaving the 200m.
  • Apello – jumped awkwardly. Crowded for room near the 1700m.
  • Heavy – slow to begin. Brushed the running rail for some distance approaching the 1200m.
  • Reaper – tightened for room at the 1700m between Swing Sensation and Apello and lost its running. Rider App. T Marshall was spoken to regarding using his whip in an action that raised it above shoulder height.
  • Swing Sensation – leaving the 1700m had to be checked away from the heels of One Touch (App. S Lisnyy), which shifted in when insufficiently clear. App. Lisnyy pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding for permitting his mount to shift in when not clear of Swing Sensation, which was taken in and crowded the running of Reaper, which lost its rightful running when taken in onto Apello. App. Lisnyy's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday, 27 May 2015 and to expire on Friday, 5 June 2015, on which day he may ride. Jumped the crossing at the 1600m.
  • Rye – jumped the crossing at the 1600m. At the entrance to the straight, when inclined to lay in, had to be checked away from the heels of Swing Sensation (D Beasley), which shifted out slightly. D Beasley was reprimanded and advised that he must stop riding and straighten his mounts as soon as they commence to shift.
  • High Midnight – shifted in and made contact with the running rail near the 1400m.

RACE 4: Toyota Material Handling (Australia) Handicap 1400m

  • Paederos – shifted its near fore-plate in the tie-up stalls, was replated, examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. When questioned, App. W Costin stated her instructions were to go forward and sit handy to the leaders, however, the gelding never travelled well and she attributed this to it not handling the heavy track conditions. Trainer Mr D Payne stated that, although Paederos was coming off a two month break since winning at Doomben, it had done well and pleased the stable. He added that Paederos had previously performed poorly at this distance on this track in the Carrington Stakes in January of this year and the only tangible excuse he could offer was that this factor, coupled with the heavy track conditions, did not advantage the gelding's chances today. He further stated that he will have Paederos fully vetted and report the results to the Stewards and endeavour to search for dry tracks.
  • Mirage – hung badly out from the 250m and ran to the outside fence over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from rider J Parr and stable representative Ms C Cunningham, the Stewards ordered that Mirage must trial to their satisfaction prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Beauty's Beast – rider App. B Loy stated the gelding did not handle the heavy track conditions at any stage. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5: Get Well Glenn Handicap 1200m

  • Meticulously – rider J Cassidy stated that the gelding, which raced disappointingly, did not handle the heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr M Dale agreed with rider J Cassidy and undertook to report back on the progress of Meticulously subsequent to the race.

RACE 6: Sydney Markets Ltd McKell Cup (Listed) 2400m

  • Singing Flame – jumped very awkwardly and then ran out, hampering Destiny's Kiss.
  • Bagman – slow to begin. Got its head up passing the 1000m.
  • Sense Of Occasion – rider T Clark accidentally dropped his whip near the 150m.
  • Major Major – rider App. W Costin stated that the gelding travelled well until the 600m and, after being briefly tightened for room between Planet Purple and Destiny's Kiss, both of which shifted ground, struggled to make ground from that point and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr B Heys agreed that Major Major found it difficult to make up ground, given the pattern of today's racing, and undertook to report back on the future race plans and the condition of the gelding subsequent to the race.
  • Cardiff Prince – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-hind leg. Trainer Mr B Hyde stated the gelding will be spelled.

  • Alberto Magic – overraced in the middle stages.
  • Hurrara – awkwardly placed for some distance rounding the home turn to the inside of Howmuchdoyouloveme. App. C Nutman stated, once racing to the inside of horses, the gelding was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.
  • Alias – rider T Clark stated the gelding, which was resuming, was obliged to race wide without cover and, first up on a heavy track, did not run on when placed under pressure.

RACE 8: Save Our Sons Handicap 1400m

  • Karakuchi – trainer Mr M Dale was fined $200 under LR35 for the late declaration this morning of J Collett as the rider of the mare.
  • Copy – slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off-foreleg. Stable representative Mr T Ward was advised a veterinary clearance would be required if the stable continues with the mare's preparation.
  • Floral Gold – hampered on jumping when Karakuchi jumped awkwardly and shifted out. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
  • Joadja – passing the 600m, after being brushed by Song And Laughter, blundered and shifted out, making contact with the hindquarter of Berrimilla, which became unbalanced.

  • Esprit's Choice – rider B Avdulla stated the mare travelled well to the 600m, but was a beaten horse on straightening and was found to be coughing on pulling up.
